A coworker of mine who happens to be the biggest Prince fan told me this story about Dr. Dre.
Apparently when Dre was in the World Class Wrecking Crew he was a really big Prince fan (which makes sense if you look at their album covers lol). The keyboard player for Prince was Dr. Fink. He wore white gloves on stage. Supposedly Dre got his whole steez from this Dr. Fink cat including his name.

Yea it is wack that there is two Dr. Dre's in hip hop. Be original people!.
-
I remember hearing about Dr. Dre from NWA back in 86. He used to sell mix tapes, and I bought a couple from back then. One of the tapes I bought had an MC Ren freestyle on it over a Run DMC instrumental. Ren was nice back then, too. i still have those tapes.
i didn't hear about Original Concept til 88 or 89 when they put out that "pump that bass" single on def jam.

Shit, hook up that MC Ren freestyle. I don't care if it is a bad rip, that shit is vintage.
gotta dig it up from my closet. its in one of 3 boxes. each box got like a hunid tapes in it. when i do ill post it up here.
it was the instrumental for "beats to the rhymes", so maybe my time frame is off. that was more 87, 88 i think
Come to think of it when Original Concept came out World Class Wrecking Cru and the name Dr. Dre was already well established. They already put out two full length albums when "pump that bass" and "knowledge me" came out.

word, that shit to confuse me as a lil kid. I would see dr.dre in videos and then I would see tv commercials for the movie who's the man and be like, wtf how did he gain so much weight so fast lol.

lol i was just messen around when i said that

cool,I got a lot old school shit on tape too. I used to record radio shows and yo mtv raps,I got loads of shit. I already posted some of it,but it seems dudes don't really care for that old shit. About Orginal Concept, they been around since at least 86-87. But you know that WCWC was already around before that,I used to break dance to that shit back then.
post that shit up, homie. Especially if you got the Yo MTV Raps finale. the one with the freestyle cypher where rakim kills the insturmental for pete rock's remix of das efx's "real hip hop".
-
I checked my Ego Trip's Book Of Rap Lists (great book for researh about Hip Hop) Orginal Concept had a 12inch out in 86 called knowledge me b/w can u feel it (def jam). I can't remember that Rakim part with Pete Rock, was that at the Ed Lover & Dr.Dre show or Fab 5? I was browsing trough my tapes a week ago, looking for some other shit. Do you remember when Dr.Dre & Ed Lover clowned Dr.Dre & Snoop? They was all over Tim Dog's ass around that time.
what did they say about dre and snoop?

Not sure about the host of the final Yo!. i haven't seen it since back the, but it was the last taping.

I can't even remember ever hearing about that,so somehow I missed that one. When I browsed trough some tapes last week, this is some of the shit I remember, interviews with Tim Dog,Ultra,Cash Money,CPO,Geto Boys & a bunch of NWA related shit,,,
For the very last show they had a big freestyle cypher with every big name NYC MC on it. pure fire.

^^ that aint it at all.
I saw this documentary about west coast rap on MTV once where Dre said that he got his name from a basketball player (dont ask me which team he was from). The name of the person in question was "Dr. Jay", and since Dre though he was cool and all he named himself Dr. Dre (his real name being Andre).
So thats what it is! From the horses-uh I mean from the west coast super producers mouth himself!!! ;D

dr.dre is wack!!! lmao!!!!!
-
Dr Dre.... which one came first
-
dude said n.w.a was first.
so that's a.young.=first to be dr.dre

the west coast Dre produced records as Dr. Dre in 1984 for the Wrecking Cru so i think he came before the MTV cat.
