Often, Steve Nash is sainted for his two MVP seasons, but Shaquille O'Neal considers them to be "tainted."
After Miami's loss in Dallas on Thursday, O'Neal was engaged in an MVP discussion as it related to the Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki. O'Neal questioned how the media picks MVPs and said the award has been "tainted" the past two seasons. O'Neal was the runner-up for Nash's first MVP in 2005.
O'Neal repeated "tainted" references to reporters.

"I don't know what to say," Nash said. "I'm sorry he feels that way."

Shaq finally speaks truth...

Well, to be honest I still would choose Nash over Shaq in 05... but in no way Nash deserved to repeat in 06... anyway MVP are BS... Why Duncan over Kidd in 02 :-X... back on topic, from top of my head, I can't remember the last MVP who was as weak as Nash on D... I think it's because it never happened (at least in late 80es, 90es and new millenium)... well Iverson has to be the one

There has never been an MVP who is non-existant on defense...MVP awards don't even exist. It's called "journalists favorite player award"...
-
^^ Iverson is average at staying with the opposite guard but he's a very good stealer, still his D is better than Nash.. Coaches and players should vote for MVP with the obligation to pick a player who isn't on their own team..
-
He sounds like a bitter old man.

Iverson is decent on defense...Nash's defense is simply non-existant.
-
Players should just keep there mouths shut, it's obvious that alot of bullshit happens in the league, not saying Nash didn't deserve it though
-
Shaq is such a joke. He really must have some kind of insecurity cuz he always slanders nba superstars.

contradiction like a motha fucker, how you gonna be mediocre defender but hold a record in steals? iverson is a pretty damn good defender.

Collecting steals doesn't necessarily make you a good defender...

back to the topic at hand though
in 05' shaq really should have won it. with all bias aside , what shaq did for miami was more valuable than what nash did
in 06' kobe really should have won it. with all bias aside again, what kobe did for the lakers was more valuable than what nash did
in07' however i think nash deserves it if he gets it. do i think it's a shame that he's goign to be the 3rd person in nba history to achieve a 3 peat mvp...YES. but IMO if you have a championship and a FINALS MVP that means a lot more

lol yep you can have good hands in the passing lanes or being good at weakside defense help whereas you're average or weak on 1 on 1 D... example Smush Parker , D-Whistle (who plays 0 defense on 1 on 1)..

even tho Shaq is right it sounds like sour grapes when he says this cause he didn't win it that first year in Miami

Explain how Nash deserves it over Dirk and Kobe...

Watch his team play without him LOL
-
^^Watch Dirk's team or Kobe's team without them...Same shit. Nash is the only reliable PG on the Suns who they depend on to run the system, off course they wont be the same without him. But the Mavs and Lakers would suffer just as much without their superstar as well, which is saying a lot, because they're easily much better players to begin with...
-
i agree somewhat but i cant agree wit hating on someone elses MVP award

If thats how the MVP is decided then give it to Paul Pierce. Ddin't Boston lose every game without him?

Bottom line.

Its kind of sad that with the talent PHX has they look lost without Nash. But that doesnt make him the MVP.
