Title: Garnett Thankful For Opt-out Contract Clause
Post by: Low Key on February 24, 2007, 02:46:18 PM
As a Timberwolves fan, I don't want him to leave, but he deserves a championship ring.

The Minnesota Timberwolves' lack of trade activity over the past few years hasn't gone unnoticed by All-Star forward Kevin Garnett.

"We made no moves. Typical," Garnett told the Minneapolis Star Tribune after Friday's shootaround.

"Thank God for opt-outs," he told the newspaper, adding that he was "not happy" another trade deadline had come and gone without a significant change to the team.

The 30-year-old forward, who made his 10th All-Star Game appearance last weekend, has an opt-out clause in his contract after the 2007-08 season, before the final year of his current deal.

When asked if he'd hoped the team would make a move before the trade deadline to boost the team's playoff chances, he told the newspaper, "We're trying to get better, right? It is what it is."

In spite of the comments, assistant general manager Fred Hoiberg said he spoke with Garnett after the deadline passed and said his star player's mood was "good."

Garnett is having another strong year on the court, averaging 22 points and nearly 13 rebounds per game.

The Wolves won't even be able to trade him now. He picked the perfect time to say it. Glenn Taylor is dumb.

Coming to LA would make him just as much money in endorsements alone...

Why? He already made over $200 million dollars if he decides to void his contract. Money ain't a thang for KG.

Plus his wife lives in L.A. and he has a home in Malibu. If Vlad Rad is out then KG is definatly in.

He should come on home to Chicago and finish his career there.

Oh well, that's a different story... I really hope he won't join your team.  :)

Then why didn't LeBron join a great team for the Mid exception last season? lol, players and especially their wives, tend to be still greedy.. unless they are REALLY desperate and old, like Karl Malone or Gary Payton.

I don't think LeBron cares about winning as much as he cares about his fame/popularity...Can't say the same for KG.

LeBron hasn't made as much as KG has in NBA salary money. KG is in his 30's and is running out of juice as the lead man. He led a group of nothings to 7 straight playoff appearances and 7 straight first round exits.

Plus KG and Shammond Williams are cousins.

after thinking about it , LA would be a good fit for Garnett

like i said time in and time out, he has to be a second option on a team, kobe has to be a first so it'd be good. i'm just concerned about odom's role i really like the role he's playing

and Bibby and Artest proved last year they can mesh jsut fine. The reason teh Kings are struggling is cuz they lose too many Close games cuz they dont get the stops when they absoultly need them, and Bibby hasnt played his normal ball cuz his wrist has affected his shot most the year. The Kings have talent and u can see flashses at time. Theyve lost over ten games by 5 pts or less...thats pathetic

Yea, "his wrist"...That's why he always has one good game followed by a few bad ones. If his wrist was really that bad, he wouldn't still have those 30+ point games here and there. Face it, Artest and Bibby aren't a match. Why do you think the Maloofs were shopping Bibby a few weeks back?

I dont think thats as much of the problem as the Kings defense and rebounding. Last year they rebouned and played defense well with Artest when they got him and there were no problems with Bibby and Artest. His wrist is also better now. They are playing fine on offense but no defense. If they are gonna trade somebody i say trade Bibby. Artest is the kind of player you just cant replace imo

the W's had the talent to get a trade done with the Wolves only problem is they still wouldn't be a championship team with KG on it.

McHale is such a dipshit, I think he would actually trade KG, thinking his got to get something out of him, and not get Bynum or Odom. McHale is that talented. He'll take some over paid players that's contract will run out in a year, instead of doing the same with KG... LOL... and maybe get  a young talent.

Both McHale and Glenn Taylor need to go. They have no idea how to manage a team.

I wonder how long till McHale fires Wittman. 3:00 left in the 3rd quarter against the Jazz, and the Wolves are down by more than 20. Fuckin' pathetic. The Wolves are just throwing up three pointers now trying to get back into the game.
