I think I was more shocked that the song was written by a East Coast rapper (Jay Z). That would be like Biggie or Nas writing Bow Down for Westside Connection.

agreed. scott storch sometimes does sound like dre, jay-z writing it is a bigger deal to me as well.

2001 was one of the biggest let downs of my life.

jay-z ghost writing no wonder dres so fucking cocky on it. should have been doc written. still one of the best 2001 tracks though.
