1 and 2 are interchangeable, but I agree with the list.

That's what I was gunna say...And Hakeem should currently be over Shaq (unless Shaq can finish his career with a major bang).

People seriously were sleeping on Hakeem's skills until later in his career. He was abusing centers on that post.

i think what put shaq over hakeem was the 4 rings and the 3 finals mvp's vs. the 2 and 2. but i wouldn't argue really if someone put hakeem over shaq there's valid points on both sides of that argument

yeah i could live with those two being switched around too.

shaq free throw shooting is a liability and always will be. Can't keep him on the floor at the end of games
-
Wilt should be ahead of Kareem and Hakeem should be ahead of Shaq.

shaq free throw shooting is a liability and always will be. Can't keep him on the floor at the end of games
but at the same time shaq was always reliable to give you at LEAST 26/27 points a game and 10 boards EVERY night, so more times than not it didn't play a factor
-
Wilt should be ahead of Kareem and Hakeem should be ahead of Shaq.
I think what gives Kareem the slight advantage over Wilt was that he dominted in 3 different eras. The Captain deserves his number 1.

So ESPN has credibility now NIK? Cuz usually anytime anybody cites them you call them BSPN or biased or Laker haters.
And the list looks good to me.

Of course not...BSPN is still weak. I like the list, but don't get me wrong, they still got a few wrong. Bill Walton should definitely not be that high, and again, Hakeem over Shaq. But they're usually close to on-point with these sorta lists.
-
dope list... you could change some of the order, but overall i agree
-
I agree with Hakeem over Shaq based on the fact that the dream absolutly abused shaq in the 94 (I think) finals. It was embarrasing to watch lol.

It's all about the Diesel:
The self-proclaimed MDE -- Most Dominant Ever -- is as physically talented as anyone who's ever played the game. He's the perfect combination of strength and quickness; a bigger, more powerful reincarnation of Wilt.
Smart, skilled and ultra-competitive, the Big Diesel instills fear in his opponents and makes his teammates better. And rings seem to follow him wherever he goes.
The best big-man ambassador the game has ever had; Shaq is larger than life on and off the court.
-
^^Sorry, but that's a major diss to Wilt...Wilt was a way more skilled and hard-working man than Shaq could dream of.

Bill Simmons, when not talking about Peyton Manning or the Patriots brings ups great points:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/blog/index?name=simmons
Just to clear something up: I abstained from voting for ESPN.com's "NBA Best Centers Ever" package because I'm a snob about stuff like this. A question like that can't be answered without specific guidelines -- for instance, are you talking about careers, or the ceiling of every center? Kareem had a better career than Walton, but if you were picking between them for one game and your life depended on it, you'd take Walton. There's no debate. Also, are we talking about the impact of the players when they played, or how they compared to every other great center? Russell and Wilt put up phenomenal numbers in the '60s, but you're telling me that Hakeem wouldn't have averaged a 45-25 in 1962? That's why I had to abstain. There's no real way to answer the question.

Moses (19 points, 13 boards already) eats up Kareem with an upfake to get to the line. Kareem has to be the only all-time great who was legitimately owned by three rivals in his prime (Walton in the mid-'70s, Hakeem in the mid-'80s, Moses for every year in between). That's why you never hear about him in a "greatest players ever" argument. Well, that and the fact that he was a ninny.

You're telling me that's a great point? That's about one of the dumbest things I've ever heard...Bill Simmons remains a dumbfuck.

Disgusting. This guy has no respect for Kareem whatsoever. He obviously didn't watch him play...Either that, or he's flat out retarded. Kareem owned Walton AND Hakeem (who couldnt win a ring during Kareems reign), people forget that he was the leader of the GREAT Showtime Laker squads up until about 1987 or so when it was Magic's turn to reign...And even BEFORE the Lakers he was collecting rings. FUCK Bill Simmons.

You didn't either. He retired when you were 2.

Yea really, that's why most analysts agree with me and not Bill Simmons (who's known for being a dickhead), you fucking retard. You're knowledge in basketball is yet to be proven, so please STFU. Still LMFAO@Bill Walton being better than Kareem. :puke:

Yea, well, I've watched enough tape and read enough books to formulate a valid opinion on him as a player...Most of the people who voted weren't old enough to see George Mikan play, what's your point?

That's why you haven't made one valid point in this thread, right? So young? I'm 20 years old, son. At least if you're gunna make jackass claims, back them up with something, don't sound like a complete moron with nothing to say....

Do you even realize how great Walton was when he was healthy? He was possibly the greatest college player of all time and had a stellar NBA career when healthy including sweeping YOUR Lakers when YOUR boy Kareem led them. Stop getting butt hurt that your boy isn't considered the best of all time.
Anytime there is a Laker in the argument I'm not even considering your opinion. Russell is the best of all time, Wilt is second.

And do you know how fucking amazing Kareem was? I think not. Ask ANY player out there what the most unstoppable shot ever was. THE SKY-HOOK. Kareem dominated in 3 different eras of basketball. He collected 6 rings with 2 teams, and was the leader of some of the greatest teams in basketball history for 20 seasons! LMFAO@Bill Walton. Walton never lived up to his expectations in the NBA, he was one of the greatest college players ever with UCLA, but he was extremely limited by inuries in the NBA. You got a case with Wilt and maybe Bill Rusell, but it's pretty much a HUGE JOKE to put Bill Walton over Kareem. :-X :-[

Bill Walton should definitely not be that high
exactly wat i was gunna say...this isnt college

if you guys disagree with their lists so much why don't you make your own in the official qualification thread 8)
-
List look's bout' right (IMO)..
Tho I'd prob interchange 2 & 3
Russel number #2 & Wilt #3
Kareem reign's at the top
-
how Nate Thurmond was not on this list is beyond me. Ask Kareem and Wilt they will tell u he was prolly the 2nd best defensive center of all time
-
I don't want to argue about players from the past i've not watched at least once a week. Let me talk about the ones i have seen playing enought times to make a comments on them.
1. Hakeem Olajuwon
2. Shaquille O'Neal
3. David Robinson
This is my list.
-
^^You haven't seen Kareem?
-
^^You haven't seen Kareem?
I don't think he knew what side of the crib he was on when Kareem played.
-
^^You haven't seen Kareem?
I was 8-9 years old when he retired, and they didn't show a lot of NBA games here in Italy anyway. I used to watch clips from Magic, he was my hero, i wanted to be like him. You know.. the era of the ugly purple t-shirts with a stamp of MJ on them.. Let's say I grew up with Ewing, Robinson, Hakeem, that generation. Then Shaq, Zo, etc.. those ones i've really seen playing full games. Hakeem was been the first Center i've really respected and loved in my life. He was the shit. Shaq i didn't like him when he was a Magic. I started to like him with Phil Jackson, to tell you the truth. But he was impressive in the 3-peat. And David.. well.. i've always respected him.

Same thing with me, well besides the whole living in Italy part and wanting to be like Kareem. First basketball game I have ever seen was a Lakers/Celtics finals. I don't remember what year but I was in Memphis at my grandparents house. Hell, I think the game was tape delayed!

But if you watched tape of Magic, then Kareem was pretty much always right by his side...If you haven't seen enough tape of Kareem, do so now!
