Title: Quik talks about new group 'The Fixxers'
Post by: Maxin in the Shade on March 07, 2007, 05:11:55 PM
Veteran Compton, CA rappers Quik (formerly known as DJ Quik) and AMG recently debuted material from their new group, The Fixxers.

The Fixxers performed material from their upcoming debut album, The Midnight Life during a performance Sunday (Mar. 4) at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood.

The performance was one in a series of West coast dates that Quik has embarked upon since being released from prison. Quik served a five-month stint in jail for violating the terms of his probation, surrounding the assault of his sister.

In June 2006, Quik surrendered to authorities for violating the terms of his probation for an incident in 2003, in which the rapper/producer, born David Blake, pulled a gun on his sister and another man during a heated argument.

Quik was originally sentenced to 45 days in jail on the weekends after he pleaded guilty to the assault, but he never served the time.

The result was a probation violation, causing Quik's jail time to be increased to 150 consecutive days behind bars.

"The record is sick,” Quik told AllHipHop.com after the performance. "When I first got out of jail, I felt as though my career was over, I was all broke and hungry and sh**, but my accountant opened up my eyes and said that my career is just now beginning.”

According to Quik, The Fixxers are halfway through recording The Midnight Life and are looking to land some big name talent to support the project, which is being produced entirely by Quik and AMG.

"There are no collabos on the album as of yet," AMG told AllHipHop.com. "We are looking to work with Young Joc and Young Jeezy. We also are putting YoYo back on the map by doing a record with her as well."

The Fixxers' first single "Can You Werk With That" recently hit the net and various radio stations.

According to Quik, who recently dropped the "DJ" from his rap name, the album will feature the quality production he is usually associated with.

In addition to his album with The Fixxers, Quik has produced records for artists like Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Talib Kweli, Ludacris, Jay-Z and others.

“With our new record, we are doing all the work ourselves," Quik said. "Its definitely going to be hot, because we are both perfectionist, and with whatever we do, it has to be nothing but the best. I make everything I do absolute and not relative.”

The Midnight Life is slated to hit stores this summer.

Yeah, I'm not feelin that Young Joc & Jeezy idea at all and I'm kinda so so on the whole project myself and it's mainly due to AMG's involvement...AMG is alright at times, debut album from him is heat, but hearing AMG in 2007 doesn't really do nothing for me...I like the lead single "Can You Werk It?", but it would be a better project if it was a Quik & Suga Free colab  :-\..good lucc with that ever happening any time soon at least

On a side note, good to hear they are going to be helping out my girl Yo-Yo and that she's attempting to put out another album...I know they said that she would be out for a while on K-Day due to her finishing up on her album, with Theo being her replacement and I know she was at the Quik concert on Sat. on Sunset along with Eazy E's daughter, so I guess those are good signs

Yea I'm not down with the Young Joc & Young Jeezy collab.. Jeezy is okay at times but I really don't like hearing much of them on West music.. most of the time they don't fit in to me..

Hopefully AMG & Quik can bring some heat and mix in some good new westcoast talent and maybe some of the old.

I have no doubt in my mind that Quik will drop some dope shit.

I remember when he said he'd recorded a track with Wyclef for "Trauma". People here were saying "Wyclef? Why is Quik working with Wyclef? I don't like the sound of that". What happened? They dropped a fucking awesome song together.

I'll approach this album the same way I do every Quik CD - expecting some quality music.

"We are looking to work with Young Joc and Young Jeezy."
