The New York Post Page 6 interview with the hip hop legend implied that he (Suge) was leaving the label behind him.
Recent articles on hip hop entrepreneur Marion ‘Suge’ Knight wanting to leave his legendary west coast Death Row Records behind him were not 100-percent accurate.
ThugLifeArmy.com spoke to Jonathan Wolfson, PR representative for the hip hop mogul Suge Knight, and ThugLifeArmy.com was told “Suge is trying to file a Chapter 7 in order to liquidate his publishing. He's fine with Death Row being restructured through a Chapter 11. It's his publishing ownership that he wants to liquidate in order to pay off Death Row's debts and move on with his life.”
It seems that Death Row Records is alive and still is and will be under the leadership of one of the legendary figures in hip hop – Mr. Marion ‘Suge’ Knight.
So instead of this being a close of a chapter of hip hop history, this could be the beginning of a New Chapter for Marion ‘Suge’ Knight and Death Row Records.
Marion ‘Suge’ Knight, who built one of the biggest black owned record labels since Motown is responsible for many of the careers of past hip hop and rap artist.
Once the most profitable and famous label in hip hop, rap and gangsta rap; Death Row Records has seen a decline in the past 10 years. Once the home of super hip hop icon Tupac Shakur (2Pac), Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Lisa Left Eye, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, Crooked I, Eastwood, and a host of other hip hop, rap and R&B talent; Death Row Records is a part of Hip Hop History and no one can take that from Death Row Records or its founder Marion ‘Suge’ Knight.
Hopefully Marion ‘Suge’ Knight can put this all behind him and once again make hip hop history with his famous Death Row Records.

Yeah, keep dreaming. I wouldn't hold your breath on that comeback.

so he's gonna liquidate his publishing is ALL that's happening? what the fuck does that really mean? turn in the pubishing for the money its worth? to who? this is dumb

I wish he would end Death Row so everyone can just move on. It's fuckin' 2007, move on people.
-
he should start a new label under a new name and give the ceo role to someone else

pf course he can't p.l.o. because that would be the sensible thing to do.and celebrities can never do the sensible thing. they gotta do the ridiculous unexpected entertaining thing. entertaining in their minds anyways....

liquidating the publishing would mean selling it, so someone can buy the rights to the songs he owns

^^^^ It means that if Suge succesfully files for a Chapter 7 he will no longer receive money from any of the D.R. songs/albums that have been officially released since day one. That money will be used to pay off his debts.
-
he could start a reality show about his life

What happened to the millions he supposedly has hidden somewhere? :)

Rumors about this being in the works have already circulated on the Internet. Hope it isn't true, I'd rather see that American Dream/American Knightmare book to appear in stores...

I just hope he will find a way to put them to good use (=revive the label)...

It seems to me he doesn't have a choice.
If I had a business and I had debts...the funds I made from that business would effectively go to those I owed, no? how is suge different from this situation? (not criticizing, just asking)

the whole bankruptzy bs should be over in a few weeks

the whole bankruptzy bs should be over in a few weeks
^^how can you be so sure with that?

lol some people need to wake up.
Some people are expecting Suge Knight to walk down the stairs from a court house with his lawyers smiling saying "We did it, Death Row is saved, There is no more bankruptcy.. And I've just signed 50 Cent, Nas, Jay-Z, Snoop and Dre and they are dropping albums next week"..
It's not going to happen.. Death Row is just going to be grass roots (myspace and mixtapes) for a few years IF Suge continues to keep the business. If not, he's going to let the Death Row brand be sold off to other just like Napster..
Death Row will never be the Death Row we grew up to love.
And i'm sorry that I'm a 'hater', i just understand business and politics.. I've 'predicted' this situation for many years and was notoriously hated on the Death Row site for explaining the obvious to them. I wonder where most of them are now.. I can give them a big fat 'I told ya so". lol jk

he right

Well without Death Row where else would young westcoast artists go and not put out an album ::)
-
^^^With Snoop and sit on the bench @ dogg house
-
Death row records is done it will never be the same as it was from the early 90's to mid 90's all the artists are gone they don't have a sound they are broke suge lost crooked I its just flat out over no artist in their right mind would sign with them. They are a legacy and their era has been over since 99 they are eating of the past and though i don't wanna see death row get shut down it might as well because it will never ever be as powerful as it once was. Suge just fucked him self over cheating people and shit and now hes paying for it the company is broke. They should let it be and just release the stuff in the vaults then people will get love again for death row records
-
^^^ :sign_lastweek:
-
dude should of just started a new label without that deathrow baggage.
-

yea i been saying that..
or he should just merge the label into a bigger label and take an executive job like Jay-Z, JD and the other rich rappers are doing right now..
-
All he's got to do is release some of that unheard shit and it'll go double platinum and he can pay off his debts.
Suge might not be able to release Dre's old shit, but there's got to be enough in the vaults to keep us happy 8)

i wish it was that easy..
if it was that easy, Suge would of already done it.

when I left rap, suge was still releasing 2pac records..now I'm back and I didn't see any sign of DR on pac's life....so DR doesn't own pac shit anymore or what?
without pac or dre, they got nothin' to release. pretty sure they already mined their dogg pound and snoop comps to the fullest.

I see some of them in the AHH forums.. but they always getting clowned.

who has the rights to Dogg Food? I'm thinking it's Death Row but I think Daz said in an interview that he owned all DPG material but then again I doubt he could get his hands on the masters for Dogg Food unless he stole them from Suge Knight lol. I just wanna see a re-issue of Dogg Food because DR has re-issued almost everything else aha.

are you talking about the 2001 re-issues where DR basically re-issued all their past releases that year? if so, yeah i knew about those, but i mean more recent re-issues, like how they did the dualdisc versions of 5 DR records, and also MWTC soundtrack and doggfather with bonus DVD in 2006. and then more recently they released Death row archives which has soundtracks for above the rim, gridlock'd, and gang related all in one package.
