I buy albums still, when I want to support the art. i also like to have packaging/art to albums I like
anyway, just read post about RIAA gettin' crazy and this problem would be solved if more people bought albums.
furthermore, my thoughts on the recent decline on hip hop sales is this: all music sales have declined , difference is hip hop has always been heavily bootlegged so it just hits even harder. in other words, because hip hop is so popular it's always been dubbed. ain't noone leaking the new garth brooks record. young buck and evidence though? betta believe it.

yep. i like to own the actual product, not a burned cd. but im pretty selective with my purchases. usually only buy real solid music i can picture myself listening to 5 years down the line. the cds gotta have good replay value.
but i havent been buying cds for awhile, as im focusing my attn towards vinyl. its just much more enjoyable to build a vinyl collection than cd.
-
Yeah I buy CDs.Like you said, I like having the original booklets, supporting the art etc.I only download shit when they're either unreleased or I just want to give an album a quick listen.
-
don't get me wrong, I download a grip of music but if an album as a whole is dope, i will probably go buy it eventually.

If a good artist come out with an album, and I here good things about it, then I'll probably buy it. The last album I bought was Hip Hop Is Dead. That was about 3 weeks ago. I'm currently in school, so I can't afford to buy all this shit right now.

i spent like $300 on CDs....probably like 2 or 3 years ago but then I got car jacked and so did my CDs, so ya, I don't buy CDs anymore. I can't be bothered to start buying them again, plus I'm not working right now anyways.
-
yes, to support the art/artist
yes, i want the packaging art
a and b
no, no reason to
no, not able to
-
I don't buy CDs anymore cause I don't listen to them, only MP3s now and I don't really give a shit about "supporting" the artists. So I really don't see a point in buying CDs anymore.
-
I try and always support the artist. The only time I have no issue with burning a cd is when it is out of print and the only other option is paying $75 for it on ebay. I also think it's cool to burn cd's in general, but if you're feeling the album I think you should buy it. At least if you want that particular artist to continue to produce that kind of music.
I think of it more as a stipend so they'll continue to make dope shit.
-
ill buy it if ive got the money and i like the artist or its straight up good music. not really a fan of burned retail CDs.
-
Hell yeah, I just got TQ - The Second Coming today ;D
-
Every now and then I pick up a copy when they sell some cd's after a concert, and I buy those albums I otherwise wouldn't be able to hear, but those are few. I used to buy crazy amounts of cd's, but I don't do that anymore... It's kinda ridiculous to waste your money on albums that will only make the rich label owners even richer. I need my money more than they need it!
-
i only support bay area artists
-
Yep, i buy a lot of cds! I like 2 collect them, i got near enuff 1500 cds at the mo, ive slowed down over the last few years but i still buy more than most ppl i know!
I like 2 b able 2 pick up my music and put it in the player and read thru the booklet! It also supports the artists and keeps the industry tickin over! I mean if every1 downloaded and dint pay, no1 wud make music cos they wud get nothin back 4 it.
-
Oh for sure, I support good music. Friday I'll buy Ev's new album. And actually I bought many cd's last year.
But still I download the cd's I can't find easily the ones that just aren't worth buying.
For me it's not only supporting, also like a collection, I collect some artist's discographies, classic albums, etc.
-
i download the albums then if i think they're good enough, i'll go out an buy them
-
Yup, I never really burn cds..
-
^^^I only burn cds 2 listen 2 in my car, neva keep the orig in there, no, no!!!!
-
sometimes
if it's a good album then I'll buy it even if I got a burned copy
plus I'm always interested in the credits
-
Yeah I do, although I haven't bought a hip-hop album in a while. The last CD I bought was "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars".
-
I ONLY BUY BLOOD RAPPER CDS
-
That is a loaded question. Yes I do buy albums of the artists I want to support IF I can find them in Minnesota or on the net for a reasonable price. But for the most part, no I don't buy albums. Prices keep going up on and the albums usually only have a few good tracks on them anyways.
-
do you buy cds?
Yeah, blank ones.
-
^^^LOL!!!
-
I ONLY BUY BLOOD RAPPER CDS
-
coo
I'll only buy it if I want to if that makes sense. I don't feel a moral obligation and I burn alot of stuff, whole albums and otherwise but if it's an artist I like and credits I'll be curious about I'll cop it (IE:dogg chit) or even if it's an artist I don't like I'll buy it if it's a classic (reasonable doubt). or something like the chronic to me is a must buy, cause it's not just the music, the art, the credits, it's all part of the statement that is that record you know?

i still have that collector mindset from when i use to collect basketball cards, so i view my cd buying as an investment/hobby. the music is always an added bonus IMO. plus i think burned cd's are just tacky, honestly i bought one of those bundles of 60 black cd's 2 years ago when i got my computer new and i still have like 65% of them, i only burn cd's for other people or when i need to make a compilation for an event.
-
I used to buy albums after hearing one hot single. Now I download it and only buy the album if I enjoy the majority of the songs. I'm tired of wasting my hard earned money on crap.
-
yeah I buy albums. it's all about quality. both the artists and retail CDs shit on netrips 8)
-
i want to support artist who are really tight, so i buy their cds...last one i bought was J-live i think...
-
Sometimes I buy brand new CDs but they are quite expensive and second, if the CD has been released years ago, it is unlikely you'll find the original pressing of it in retail. Most of my cds were bought by second hand so it won't help artist at all. I voted for the artwork.
-
i own 150 original albums and maybe 500 bootlegs
