As promised, we are bringing you an exclusive with The Fixxers today. New names, same story, so you can miss them with an introduction. America's most complete artist, Quik, (formerly known as DJ Quik) and his partner in crime, AMG, reached out to Dubcnn for their first interview under their new collective.
AMG gets into the upcoming Fixxers album entitled "Midnight Life" and reveals a few details, while Quik speaks about the changes in his new position and why he decided to form a group. AMG also mentions his solo project "Rum & Coke" and tells us when and in which form we can expect it. Quik then takes his time to review his last solo effort "Trauma", and explains what went wrong with it.
As ever, you can read and listen to this exclusive interview and we urge you to leave feedback on our forums or email them to liljay@dubcnn.com.

what he said about Trauma is true
-
Dopeness, props jay!
-
Damn. You provided that interview fast. Thank you!
-
FInally! :o
thx DUB
-
good looks on the interview... seems like they want to move in a "new direction" so we'll just have to wait and see before we can judge the music
still not feeling that single :-\... and by the way Francis Ford Coppola directed the Godfather, not Scorsese
peace

I love interviews with Quik - the guy's always so honest: "I did all my kicking and screaming, and it got me an album without a video." LOL at that, can't hate the guy for telling the truth.
I'm hyped for this album. Props for the interview Jay.
EDIT: hey Jay - is that really the end of the interview? Seems like Quik is just getting into a point and then it just stops?
-
Props 8)
-
yeah just got done listening to it... glad u kept pressing them about switching up their style, cause the fans wanted to know the deal... personally, i think its gonna backfire since quik's creativity is about advancing his sound rather than manufacturing hits to fit the sound of the moment... seems like he's really focused on mainstream success this time (as he always says he is)... anyways if he doesnt get that success after the Midnite Life, im sure we'll hear another Dubcnn interview where he says his strategy for this album was all fucked up :-\
is there gonna be more to this interview ??? cause the audio ended kinda abruptly
peace
-
lol JAY why you told that isnt an interview the exclusive?
anyway PROPS
-
Dopeness, props jay!
-
Props for the Interview Jay!!
Can't help but feel a little sorry for Dj Quik!!
However as he said, the past is the past..what is more important rite now is the present!!
Am hoping he keeps the production on Midnite Album fly and on point!!!

as i'm listening to this, i must say, i'm quite disappointed. not in the fact of what amg and quik had to say, but on the delivery of the interview by dubcnn as a whole. no offense to the site in any respect... don't get me wrong, i fully appreciate and respect the fact that you guys took the time out to reach out to quik and amg to make this happen, but, in an opinionated retrospect, it was a rather dull, and uninspired interview. there was no excitement or drive. it was just like a straight high school class essay: back and forth questions and answers. when i look at this interview compared to the devin the dude interview, i think "what happened?"...that interview was hype. i felt with this interview, there was no enthusiasm on dubcnn's part. every question and response seemed monotone and lifeless. this makes me somewhat disgruntled because quik is THE artist we as a community have been waiting to hear from for a long ass time. and what was up with the interview getting cut short? so, i am just voicing my opinion which i feel i am entitled to as a member on this board. once again, i appreciate the time dubcnn took to contact quik and amg. while not impelling, it was somewhat informative. feel free to comment...

^^ I hear ya.
We're getting used to extra special interviews from Snoop etc., and so I think the expectations were high.
I reckon once the album is complete, Quik and AMG would give a better interview. Interesting that there was no "drop your questions for The Fixxers" thread prior to this interview.

yeah, that's true too man. we have been spoiled lately with interviews of some of the greatest ;D that definitely raised expectations. a pre-interview thread would have been awesome....

Yeah i agree..whoever was giving this interview seemed to have no interest in what he was asking and the answers he was getting.... i mean i read the interview first..thought it was good and then i listened to it and was like..what the fuck..AMG is probly thinking in his head... "whats up with this kid..is he stoned stoupid"

and by the way Francis Ford Coppola directed the Godfather, not Scorsese
that rookie must be taught
-
young joc on the album ??? that should be interesting

Yeah that was actually the last question... we had to end it cause the schedule on that day was pretty tight.

Oh you know... I changed my mind!

Digital Pimpin already said it... you guys are spoiled. A lot of you are used to the high standards cause they gave us indepth exclusives before that nobody else could get. But you gotta understand that some of these artists can't always be flexible and give 60 minute interviews. Plus, there's always both sides that need to contribute to make it successful. One, the interviewer with the questions and second, the artists with the answers.. Admit it or not, blame it on me or AMG, but he was pretty damn lazy on that day. You might call it lifeless, but I just went with the flow of the interview. You cant ask some happy ass questions and be all emotional and excited if they don't flow with it. This is how it goes, sometimes you catch them on a good day, sometimes on a bad day. Go back into our interview archive and read our previous interviews with Quik and you'll see the difference.
-
Lil Jay you sneaky bastard you. No interview huh? ;D
Anyways props for this, about to give it a listen right now.
-
It's funny, while Jay was on the phone doing the interview with Quik and AMG, me and Yash were sitting at Quik's studio in L.A. and did our interview with them for the dubcnn documentary DVD right after that ;D
-
yeah that was a cool interview.....fo real

Wow - that's the first I've heard of your DVD. When will you drop it?
-
Yeah we haven't said anything about it... no date yet... We just recorded lots of footage ;)
-
^ Did you hear some new tracks? There's anything fonky or only south?
Nice interview, I like when Quik is honest, like the exact numbers of "Trauma", the problems and all. But I don't like how they're working now, they're really tryin' to have success (and probably will have) but what about the quality of the music?
-
Can't Wait for This DVD of Dubcnn too
-
Yeah we haven't said anything about it... no date yet... We just recorded lots of footage ;)
NIIMMMAAAAA, always doin' it big. props.
Will be lookin' forward to this like a muhh. MAYNE, Y'all are gonna get me watching movies again.

Oh you making DVD's now? You cunning little minx! :D
I think it's weird though that Quik & AMG are trying to gain success with the popular sound that's currently out there. What ever happened to pushing the envelope and doing it your way and all that type of crap?

quik will of course, if they want this project to be any good, inject an appropriate level of funk and musicality into this project, thus twisting a popular style his way. i would hope anyway.

cool, quik actually made sense this interview!
good read.

dj quik sounds like an asshole
look
Dubcnn: So Quik....how do you look back at "Trauma" today, one and a half years later. Is it still the dopest album that you've ever done?
Quik: "Trauma"? The funny thing about it now is that "Trauma" to me is a better album now, I'm not being funny, it's a better album now. Especially if you listened to the Instrumental album of it. That music is so fucking hard, it's too far advanced. Then I go back and listen to the lyrics and the delivery. Even I was going through some shit, I still delivered the fuck outta them lyrics. It's just hot! You can't front on "Trauma", and if you do, you hating! It's a hot record.
LOL @ him basically sayin"no one cared about my album cuz it's over thier heads and they're haters!"
ou just do the best and you hope for the best. So I didn't win a Grammy, but I'm not mad about that. Because people like Martin Scorsese, who directed The Godfather, it took him 30 years to win an Oscar. But he finally got it just recently. So if I pattern my greatest success by his and if I don't win a Grammy in the next 5 years it won't stress me out, cause I'm sure probably sometime
francis ford coppolla directed the godfather you fuckin moron
---dj quik's head is too big within his own world and will drop another flop boring album like trauma
-
"Trauma" is the bomb, why u hatin?

My first post...!!!
I'm sorry but Quik said he would revolutionise music with Trauma....
It was weak as hell.. like an EP in length and in term so longevity value his worst album bar none.
I was a big fan but the more I hear him interviewed the more I think he lies a little!
Probably just bitter.
Rhythmalism was the best produced hiphop cd of all time.
They say he needs to work with G One and Rob Bacon again.
-
that was a cool interview
