Title: Are You Still Feeling The Dogghouse Sound?
Post by: Big BpG on October 01, 2001, 09:09:29 PM
How do you guys like the classic sound from Dogghouse? I think I'm starting to get sick of their sound... Kind of like No Limit... it starts out real fresh and cool, then it gets real old. The sound is starting to get old. The feel of it is always the same. Time to mix around the producers in my opinion.

I agree. After listening to the Bones Soundtrack I see that Battlecat really doesn't experiment much. He has the same funky sound with "claps" and little "xylophone" sounds. Here is a rule of thumb:

"If the beat uses Claps, then its Battlecat"

I haven't seen Meech Wells in a while. I do remember that back in spring... Meech said that the Bones Soundtrack was going to be his time to shine and he would be all over it and battlecat would have very little production... well since I've become very familiar with Battlecat's sound, I've been able to already pick out 5 songs off of the Bones soundtrack that were produced by him. More Fred Wreck and Meech Wells ( I wonder if he is still with Dogghouse) would be nice. More Warren too and  Dre, but thats hard to come by.

In fact Meech was the first producer to appear as a  part of Dogghouse roster, so it's sad to see him in such a shade now. I'd love to hear more Meech. But Battlecat is cool tho. And dont trip, he's always been repetitive. Remember those songs: Kurupt's Play My Cards & Under pressure and Snoop 's Leave Me alone - they all have the same woink-woink sound, but none of yall tripped. I also remember him using the same sounds for Domino in 1993 and for Kam in 1995. So what, if he sounds good it is good then.

I loved the sound of Bad Azz's Personal, I think BattleCat made graet beatz there f.e. Ready To Ride...I still love the Dogghouse sound! By the way, who is jerry Roll? Is pretty dope too...

yea after hearing some tracks from Bones im really disappointed at the same ol tired production. Fred Wreck's shit is also getting really boring now, all that electro-funk shit is played out already. even his production on kurupts album got boring after quite a few listens.

i was really disappointed with the eastsidaz last album, i thought Battlecat's shit was extremely sub-par. Meech actually came tight on it (ive never been a fan) so hes gone up in my estimation, hes being a little more experimental.

bad azz's cd was bangin tho, Jelly Roll and Blaqtovin should get more love, they are both really tight and usually creative.

but anyway the point is.... Dogghouse should look to diversify their production or their shit is going to become extremely tired and i wont buy it anymore. im still unsure to order Bones or not.

Yea you're right... really... it seems like Battlecat is their main man and to me that's to repetitive... I think even too much Dr. Dre could bore us, if thats all we heard, it would be boring... thats why Dre scatters himself around, and his projects are always months and months in process. He does experiment a lot so we don't always get that same sound. Battlecat just seems to stick by his book and not open another.

I was really disappointed  about the Bones soundtracc I thought that this album could be a classic and put Dogghouse on the map...but I was wrong...just like the song "Gansta wit it" by snoop, Butch and nate this song is cool but I was lookin for the "g'd up" or "we can freak it" kind of beat and its also weird that one of the greatest beat of the album is by Kokane(raise up)

Why would the Bones soundtrack put Dogghouse on the map.  The Bones soundtrack is VERY gimmicky--which is fine--but obviously its not the kind of album thats going to go down as classics.  Nearly half the titles mention Jimmy Bones--its not a normal album-but a gimmicky/concept album.  Now the Wash Soundtrack so be a more basic soundtrack.  We shall see.  And for what its worth I still love the Dogghouse sound--I aint hatin.

another point about Battlecat i wanna make:

back in the day when BC would drop a track here and there for numerous west coast artists, it would be tight. he has that signature sound which is cool in its moderation. but when your talking about 7 plus songs per album of his production it gets too much.

BC is a GREAT producer but i dont think he could produce an entire album and make every track an original creative one. actually very few producers can do that (Dre, Quik, Daz, Flawless etc).

bones ain't really a good comparaison , cause the beat r suppose to be like that , wait til the next album , kokane or butch or snoop  8)

Bones is a horror movie and the majority of the songs talk about the movie or the character of Jimmy Bones.  That is fine because its a movie Soundtrack that actually is about the movie (What a crazy idea, eh?). Anyways-I enjoy the album and anyone would be stupid to think that this would be a classic.  However the wash has potential to be real good because its not going to be a gimmicky soundtrack about car washes.  You understand?

i didn't like "duces and trays" at all really .. it was gay  :P

i really hope Snoops next album is not like that ... and i really hope he doesn't have that gaylord "Kokane" singing all over it

if he does then i give up!!

and i won't be the only one ... and then'll we see the demise of Snoop Dogg .. and the collaspe of his record company ....

Dogghouse had some fresh beats when they dropped songs from Meech & Battlecat.  Meech is a lot like Dre, I thought "Hoodtraps" was a Dre beat intil I saw the Meech credit.  He's busy with his own label.  Fredwreck is still tight, his album will be heat.  Battlecat always comes tight with beats that are similar.  Jelly Roll & Blaqthoven aren't anything special.

How many times can you use the word gay in one post?  Retard.  Anyways-I think Kokane is great (as do a lot of people) and "The Last Meal" was Snoops most successful album in years and it was chocked full of Kokane.  So there are some holes in your theory, sunshine.

i think i said the words gay twice weido ... and it wasn't sucessful in sales ...

if its not sucessful in sales then that = no money , hence the collaspe of a record company ...

think of the things hes put out so far .. Doggys angels , the 2 eastside album and badazz they all sold badly ...

if his solo one does badly then its bye bye snoop ....  :'(

Weido?  Sticks and stones may break my bones--You know the rest..

Anyways-The Eastsidaz album isnt exactly setting the world on fire but its doing loads better than the average album.  Also-Since Snoop has his own label they make loads more than they would off a regular label..so they dont need to sell nearly as much to make ends meet.  Nice try , Sunshine...Nice try  ;D

Lee... there is no way that Dogghouse Records will crumble... Thats the last thing to be thinking because the only way it could  crumble is if the artists gave up on it... look at Deathrow... they still release albums... and they sell nothing... Dogghouse Records is a succesfull label right now... they just aint mainstream at the moment, and may never be at that point, but they aren't in any trouble of falling... if people will buy the albums, then they will survive... There are as much people who like Dogghouse as those who don't ... so not to worry about a crumbling

Kokane?

gaylord?

Those shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence when you talk about one of the best vocalist on the West Coast right now.

Being the son of Motown legend Mary Wells may have helped jumpstart Meech Wells' career, but the West Coast rap producer quickly proved his talent and eventually aligned himself with Snoop Dogg, another relationship that definitely didn't hurt his career. Before being Snoop's producer of choice during the late '90s and early 2000s, Wells began his career as part of a funk band called Trey Lewd that also featured Tracey Lewis, George Clinton's son; this provided him with the opportunity to work with Clinton himself. By 1993, Wells found himself working alongside producer/rapper Def Jef; the two's production on Shaquille O'Neil's "I Got Skillz" (a surprise hit single) won them instant credentials. Throughout the mid-'90s, he continued to hone his craft, working on a number of remix projects before eventually being introduced to Snoop through a friend. Before long, the two were working together as a potent duo, beginning with "Still a G Thang," one of the better songs on Snoop's Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told. Wells produced a few No Limit songs featuring Snoop -- Tru's "It's a Beautiful Thang," Silkk the Shocker's "Get It Up" -- before playing a major role in bringing a West Coast sound to Snoop's Top Dogg album in 1999: "In Love With a Thug," "Better Days," "Gangsta Ride," among others. In 2000 he reprised his role as one of Snoop's producers of choice, producing tracks for Tha Eastsidaz' self-titled debut and Doggy's Angels' Pleezbalevit, as well as Snoop's own Tha Last Meal ("Go Away," "Issues").

A West Coast producer who got his start crafting G-funk beats for Snoop Dogg on his Top Dogg and Tha Last Meal albums. Similar in style to Battlecat and Meech Wells, and obviously influenced by Dr. Dre, Jelly Roll's beats tend to emphasize a sense of funk by focusing on chunky bass lines and plenty of synth

Scott Storch's knack for laying down dazzling keyboard lines led to a burgeoning career as a musically blessed producer by the early 2000s after aligning himself with production duties for high-profile rappers such as Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes. Long before Storch was crafting entire tracks for superstar rappers, he was a humble keyboardist. He contributed to mostly forgotten Philadelphia-area efforts such as Schoolly D's Welcome to America (1994) and G. Love & Special Sauce's self-titled debut (1994), yet his humble contributions to a then low-profile, indie-label debut album by another Philadelpha act ended up being his path to success. This particular album happened to be the Roots' Organix (1993), an album that led to a major label deal for the Roots, solidifying Storch's role as keyboardist for the group. Yet as the years passed and his reputation grew as the talented keyboardist in America's premier live hip-hop "band," Storch began extending his reach, taking on production opportunities. His big break came when his keyboard riff laced the mammoth lead single to Dr. Dre's comeback album, "Still D.R.E." Working alongside Dre obviously had its pluses, and soon Storch found himself co-producing the lead single to Xzibit's Restless album, "X," and getting the opportunity to produce three tracks for Snoop Dogg's Tha Last Meal ("Brake Fluid," "Ready 2 Ryde," "Y'all Gone Miss Me").

"He Fucks up every song he(')s on..and i "ain't" the only person who thinks so".  Well I dont think he "fucks up" every song hes on and I "aint" the only who thinks so.  Wow-its fun using your logic to get a point across.

Lets start with a little overview of your quote...

Now class lets focus on the subjects first two lines as quoted above... Here is my response.

You remember No Limit? They were the top Record Label in 1997. Where are they now... their music did get worse and by a lot... they are still releasing records... if it gets worse, YO
U WONT BUY THE ALBUM, but their our millions who still will...

Now lets looks at your quote about Kokane...

Like Jermaine said...

thats an opinion... its just like an apple... it goes in the mouth and comes out like shit...

was that how it was?
