MILWAUKEE — The Washington Wizards might be without All-Star forward Caron Butler for the playoffs. Butler scored 19 points before he broke his right hand Sunday midway through the third quarter during the Wizards' game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
"Second round, third round, a possibility," Butler said after the game. "But right now, I probably won't have a jersey on until next year."
Butler said that the accident happened when he went up to challenge a shot by Ruben Patterson and his right hand hit the backboard. He was playing in his third game back since missing six with a left knee contusion.
"My hand caught under the rim, and it popped out of place," Butler said.
"I see a hand specialist tomorrow," Butler said. "Hopefully, I'll get the opportunity to come back as soon as possible."
He entered the game averaging 19.1 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Sucks...Wizards are DONE.

Sucks for Caron and the Wiz, but good news for Toronto....If the playoffs started today, the Raps would have homecourt advantage against Washington.

I never have excuses, i'm still gonna win it in both my leagues, but I had Caron in my other league so it doesn't matter for ours.

Butler hopes to get cast off next week, eyes playoffs (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=ApKUcALQ71Rh2OS6FQ4oM2s5nYcB?slug=ap-wizards-butler&prov=ap&type=lgns)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Caron Butler is not ready to write off the season.
The Washington Wizards' All-Star forward said Monday he hopes to have the cast removed from his broken right hand in a week and thinks he could play if the team reached the second round of the playoffs.
His recovery time was supposed to be six weeks after he broke a bone in his hand two weeks ago.
"There's definitely a chance," Butler said. "I'm trying to get my cast off probably as early as next Monday. So the second round -- that's what we're looking at."
The Wizards (40-40) have clinched a playoff berth.
Butler took part in practice Monday, using only his left hand to make passes to DeShawn Stevenson or to hoist up jump shots. Butler had what he called a "bone-healing machine" attached to his right hand, a contraption he said "sends waves to the bone and helps it heal faster."
He was injured when he hit his hand on the backboard while trying to block a shot during a win over Milwaukee on April 1. Since then, Washington is 1-7; two games after Butler got hurt, All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas tore his left knee and needed surgery.
Butler was averaging career highs in points (19.1), rebounds (7.4) and assists (3.7).
