Title: Recomend a foreign film thread
Post by: Don Rizzle on April 08, 2007, 01:36:30 PM
I'll start with Brotherhood, its is one of the best war films i've ever seen, its about 2 brother during the korean war they start off on the same side but it really gets interesting when one of them switches I won't divulge any more you'll have to watch it to find out. I will say it has effects which rival saving private ryan and a strong story line.

9th Company. Might be hard to find - I downloaded it from some torrent.
It's like a Russian Black Hawk Down, shot in a very similar way. This trailer is shitty, but it's the only one in English I could find:

This montage is better:

Brotherhood is cool, there's been a good few films out of South Korea in the past couple of years that I've saw and really liked, most importantly Park Chan-wook's vengeance trilogy:

Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance
Oldboy
Lady Vengeance

also from South Korea:

A Tale of Two Sisters

Pan's Labyrinth was cool (most people should already know what this is), Amelie was nice.

Yeah for people who like The Departed they should check out the superior film it based on "Infernal Affairs", check out parts 2 and 3 as well.

There's loads more, check out some of Takashi Miike's films if your into ultra violence and are quite perverted.

that's all I can think of for now

I saw Das Experiment, pretty good. I remember BB2 showing it after an episode of Das Boot.

The Alzheimer Affair: The Memory of a Killer (directed by Erik Van Looy)
---> Belgian movie which was a major success here a few years ago. Came out in the U.S. too due to its huge success and I remember seeing an interview in which Samuel L. Jackson said that he was really impressed by the movie.

So, I can definitely recommend that one. Quality psychological-thriller.

Gotta get some Wong Kar Wai directions into this. All of his films are definitely worth watching, my favourite three being,

- Fallen Angels
- Chungking Express
- In The Mood For Love

I would also definitely recommend the French film 'Breathless', new wave at its best.

I believe The Departed much better than Internal Affairs...they improved on EVERYTHING. Maybe becuase of the acting..but The Departed, even though it copies a lot from INternal Affairs...it feels like where Internal Affairs fucked up, The Departed did so much better.

ANd like Prominent said...any of Takashi Miike's films

BATTLE ROYAL!!!!!!!!!
