Title: Question About DPG's New York New York
Post by: StevenQBosell on April 09, 2007, 03:26:44 PM
Ok I know DPG did that song in 1995 perhaps? When did the BIG version of the song (St. Ides) come out, and who's was first?

Also who produced the beat, I've heard it was Melle Mell, DJ Pooh or Daz...

And last question, any other song use that beat? It is one of my favorite beats of all time, any help would be appreciated...

the song D.P.G. on Dillinger and Young Gotti part One does a sort of an update on the song, so it also uses the beat and Daz produced that

DPG came out first.  Rumor was Daz sold the beat to B.I.G. to use.  This was right before the whole east vs. west beef started.

LOL yeah I remember it, it had nothing on the DPG version. After a while LA LA got so boring.

Does anybody have a full version of BIG rapping over that New York New York beat?

I like the very subtle bassline differences of the 2 songs, very funky.

And by the way does Melle Mell fit into making this beat at all? For years I heard Melle did this beat first, but that's just what I heard.

I think they had 2 versions, the video version did not use the NY, NY beat

To my knowledge they didn't use the NY NY beat, it may have been Havoc of Mobb Deep who procued that Capone And nrore track

they never used the dpg beat...  ''LA, LA'' was a brand new beat as far as I remember

Melle Mel ties into it because DPG's version of "NY, NY" is a punchline/concept mix of a song form the 80's/90's of Mel's with the same title.

Love this song, one of my favorite DPG songs actually. great beat by DJ Pooh, and I like the video too! With the giant DPG stomping around NY haha.

The chorus is the same, but Melle's version was about NY being too overpopulated.

Different beat too.

If I remember well Mobb Deep and Deathrow were beefin back then..

Same question here, I wonder if they made the KNOWING it would anger people, or if they made the song unaware of what it the repruccusions would be.

That live bassline on NY NY is just fire, Poohs best beat if you asked me.

The story was told a while back....

Around the time Chronic/DS was blowin up, snoop and dpg were in NY for a show or awards/jump off/ something at the Tunnel in NY. They were giving Kurupt shit at the door, not letting him in, hating on the west coast etc. and Kurupt literally battle rapped his way into the event. The night he served 2000 MCs.

yeah, I think the beat could have been harder though. but I think it's intentionally kind of a sing songy simple beat in a mocking kind of way
