Listen yall, I feel like it's my duty to point some shit out here. And I'm only doing this because I think it's damn near a tragedy to hear Quik resort to this level of desperation. This whole "The Fixxxers" project is a complete joke. Its a front. This is about as manufactured and synthetic as "music" can get. This is BLATANT biting, BLATANT selling out, and artists need to be accountable for this bullshit.
Now, I've already been saying this shit since I first heard the track "Can U Werk Wit Dat" about a month ago. I said my peace on it in a couple threads, but never got too deep. Mostly because I viewed it as so sad and pathetic, I really couldn't put it into words. But then I just peeped the vid that the homie Rik upped for us, and I had to say some more. Just when I thought that shit couldn't get any worse, it completely reinforced evertything I've been saying.
This song is so bad on MANY levels. LMFAO at all the ringtone advertisements in that cliched ass video. This song was strictly built to be sold as a ringtone, just like "Laffy Taffy". Just a 5 second loop with that gay ass keyboard and "can u werk with dat" recited a billion fucking times. HOW DO YOU GUYS LIKE THIS SHIT!? Yall are being played like a motherfucker and don't even realize it.
Do you guys not find it fucking comical yet sad how that vid only promotes a ringtone and no mention of the album dropping or anything like that? I think I could write about 10 pages about all the things wrong with "The Fixxxers" but I really don't even want to waste my time.
THIS SONG IS LAFFY TAFFY PART 2. Go head and bump this and explain the difference to me, because I don't see it.

why do u think Interscope iz promoting this?!! surely aint because its QUIK
-
man dj quik gave you a nice ass album dj quik - trauma
why cant he try something new? he already sold independent, he is trying to hit mainstream now..... let him do his thing
-
The first who raps in the first video looks retarded and gay.
-
I sometimes disagree with you (though you always argue and doesn't give "free" answer") but in this case I co-sign to the fullest.. it's very sad to see Quik goes that way , following the South trend, using a more "mainstream" flow ... Very few rappers succeed in their transition between the "underground" and the mainstream level (or their attempt to go mainstream), Quik is SURE not one of them.. For those who will answer by the usual "Quik tries sth different", I don't buy it ..

I totally agree!
-
It's obvious Quik is looking for mainstream success with the song/album, but until I hear his next project and how he uses his new found fame, I won't jump to any conclusions. But yeah, the track is a blatantly pop.
-
I see where Quik is coming from, years of putting in work, but now he can finally get his shot to get rich.
3 Problems:
1. This music is awful, AMG sounds awful especially.
2. He sold out and his real fans won't forget.
3. He won't get rich, and this won't sell.
The song isn't bad because of the beat. It's bad because Quik decided it was good enough for him and the black Grimus to rap on. AMG makes this song unbearable. If he would've given this beat to someone, thats fine, every producer hands out mediocre beats. But for Quik to rap on this thing, make a video for it, change his name, and change his voice, its pathetic. AMG and the Fixxxers is a complete joke. Why did you have to take AMG with you? Not only did he sell out, he took one of his worst proteges with him. Why not take second II none, or Hi-C? Why take anyone? Why not just release another compilation album with all your friends from the past years, help bring them with you. Fuck AMG, fuck the Fixxxers, and fuck this crappy song.
-
LOL
-
You know DJ Quik sold out, him talking about "snapping music" is nothing but a stolen act now he does the same. he only makes himself act like a hipocrit by making such poppy songs.
The Fixxers, lol, wtf is that. Nothing but a gimmick. And him changing his name to Quik, cuz "its good for all the DJ's cuz they get the chance to shine now" lmao @ that.
Man fuck Quik (no homo), ima bump Safe + Sound and Quik Is The Name from now on....
-
I wouldn't blame Quik for doing "Laffy Taffy" shit. Blame the music consumers. The most of today's rap music is bought by women, so no wonder why they make "laffy taffy" shit. I think that mens are more comfrontable with downloading and bootleggin than paying full price of the CD.
-
well we like the song here in L.A.
and this isnt even a shadow of what laffy taffy is
theres better lyrics on this , quik was ok his flow was cool
but that can u work with that beat is nice.....
-
I havent heard Can U Werk Wit Dat before, It doesnt sound much different from Laffy Taffy, I dont like the beat at all, and Quik and AMG flows both sound worse

funny comparison ;D
Nah I dont like the song either. Im really excited about well this record will fare when it comes out. Interscope seems to be very adament about pushing the record (video AND ringtone ;D).
Maybe there will just be A FEW bad songs like this and Quik will bring the funk on the other tracks....
but that crap he said in his interview about using computers (what happened to "music is supposed to be on tape buddy"?? :() and Fruity Loops and what not doesnt really sound promising.
-
i wouldnt mind the song if it was some new southern artist, jus as a club joint, but its quik, he has so much history of quality funky beats, gangsta lyrics smooth riding music, this just isnt what we expect from quik, he switched up to make some money,
im just listening to the new WC tracks, he keeps it gangsta , the two tracks are bangin, just in comparisin to quik he obviously hasnt changed
btw quik looks like a real ass pimp in the vid 8)
-
i'll quote myself from the video-topic:
DJ Quik is my favourite rap-artist, and one of 2-3 rappers i would even consider putting in my favorite artists-"section"... but this song has got to be the definition of selling out. Quik goes from being perhaps the most innovative rap-producer, to blatantly copying a lesser musicall style. If The Fixxer's album sound like this, it's the nail in the coffin for Quik as far as i'm concerned. :( (I know this has probably been discussed over and over again the last month or so, but I haven't been online in a while ;) )

because this is NOT something new, and it's not HIS thing...

with this track and people like young joc on the album im not lookin forward to hearin this album, dont get me wrong i like the south like trae , z-ro , flip , cham ,jeezy, rick ross, t.i n weezy etc but shit like dem franchise boys n d4l is total shit
-
SUCKS A FAT DONKEY DICK.FUCK FIXXERS.FUCK IT.WACK ASS SHIT.CANT BELIVE IM HEARING QUIK AND AMG ON THIS KINDA WACK SHIT.*pukes*
-
it's sort of catchy. i wouldn't call it terrible if it wasn't quik or someone who can do so much better.
i bet you the whole album will be like this. i mean look at the guestspots.
-
I wouldn't blame Quik for doing "Laffy Taffy" shit. Blame the music consumers. The most of today's rap music is bought by women, so no wonder why they make "laffy taffy" shit. I think that mens are more comfrontable with downloading and bootleggin than paying full price of the CD.
LOL, I 've been saying this for years now. Bottomline is Bitches buy cd's, Niggas D/L music.
-
Listening to them both back to back I gotta say that "Can You Werk With That" is, in my opinion, a much better song. If music could be retarded, "Laffy Taffy" would be it.
HOWEVER
"Can You Werk With That" is still a God-awful song. And I hate to se DJ Quik doing that kind of shit. I look at Safe + Sound, Trauma, Quik Is The Name and I can't believe the same dude produced these masterpieces and this new Fixxers piece of crap. Quik sold out in the worst possible way. I can understand how he wants to get his money, but fuck sacrificing your whole sound and everything that make you great to do it. Quik really deserves to get rich off his music, but it's the music he did before the Fixxers that he should be paid for.
It'll be ironic as fuck if Quik really hits the jackpot with the Fixxers though. Several albums of greatness and classic material gone under the radar and then fame and fortune for some wack piece of crap, when it should be the other way around. And the worst part would be that a lot of people would remember Quik as "that dude who was in the Fixxers."
Fuck all that. DJ Quik all the way. DubCNN needs to do an intervention for Quik or some shit. ;D
-
I honestly don't know off top, but how many records has Quik sold? I'm sure it's in the millions. Yall act like he's a failure and never had any success.
-
this shit is wacker than crack
-
In today's environment, the only way Quik is gonna get his name out there again is by making tracks like this. Who knows? It might introduce a new fanbase to Quik's catalogue.
Also, if this album goes gold on some South shit, it gives Quik some freedom to bring the funk on a future major release.
-
its growing on me :P...
i thought amg's verse was kinda hot actually. i really hate how quik flowed but amg doesn't really sound any different then he ever does.
-
quik just wants a hit so bad that he had to dumb down his music to just some basic simple shit just to get play..i can't blame him for wanting some exposure and to be mainstream i think he deserves it more than some of the other rappers who do have mainstream success
-
Hmmm.........
L.A. people have been on this song, and most haven't even complained about Quik sellin out by doin it. It gets great response in L.A. clubs and people always request it. However....most L.A. people at this point have NO pride in L.A. music, and would rather hear Laffy Taffy pt. 2 than Safe n Sound pt. 2.
If you ask me.....I can't really knock Quik for doing this...however....he NEEDS to realize that this will NOT help him blow up, or get nationwide respect even like he did in 91 when he first dropped. If y'all think about it...how many damm West Coast artists tried to blow up, or re-invent themselves by hookin up with the south and borrowing their producers or sound??? NONE!!!!!!!! Too Short didn't sell out, but did work with Lil Jon and Jazze Pha all over his last album..and it didn't sell much of anything in the south. E-40 sold a decent amount, but even though he worked with Lil Jon as well, they came with something different that didn't sound like Crunk at all, even though everybody insisted that's all it was when it dropped. But comparin "Tell me when to go" with a crunk song like "Get on my level" or "No Problems" shows that they are a LOT different from "Can you werk wit dat" and "Laffy Taffy" which do sound like brother/sister songs.
As for Quik doing something "different," he is, but it's definitely not his own sound as someone said. Herbie Hancock changed his style a lot for the album with "Rock it," and most of his hardcore Jazz fans hated it...but he was doing something a LOT different from the typical pop and 80's music that was out, and changed the game. So if Quik did abandon the funk to try somethin completely different, and it was hot, then we couldn't knock it...even as Timbaland has done by taking the pop formula and puttin his own thing to it. But this song here is nothing but a blatant rip off of every snap song out...and I still bump it and listen to it, but not as a Quik song.
-
One thing i can respect from DJ Quik is that hell tell u straight up that hes not gonna go westcoast wit this album.

It wouldn't be the first time Quik would have contradicted himself. I remember back in '02 or '03, you could ask him multiple questions about how he feels about Suge Knight, and Quik would give a different answer to each one.

Even though "Can U Werk Wit Dat" is not very good IMO, "Chicken Noodle Soup" is on a whole other level of wackness. I was going to go to a Wizards/Sixers game in Philly (I forget the date, it was the ESPN game where the owner of the Sixers said AI demanded a trade and they were working on accomodating it), however I found out that "Chicken Noodle Soup" was going to be performed at Half-Time, and opted to head down to DC a night early rather than nearly go blind watching that song be performed at halftime.

what are you guys talking about west coast this west coast that, QUIK IS A BIG TIME PRODUCER, and on his last album TRAUMA he didnt have any of those WEST COAST BEATS WITH THAT SIGNATURE WEST COAST SWING
THAT G FUNK SHIT IS GETTING TIRING PRODUCERS ALWAYS HAVE TO RE-INVENT THEM SELVES TO STAY CURRENT WITH WHATEVERS HOT AT THE MOMENT U CANT MAKE A SONG IN 2007 AND THE BEAT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS DONE IN THE CHRONIC DAYS

Trauma definitely had a strong West Coast influence, even though it didn't have the over-typical 90's "West Coast Swing" with claps and Synth basslines....and in a way, you could say he re-invented himself then. But with this song, he's doing a lot worst than just "staying current with what's hot," which is something that trendsetters and legendary producers don't do....they TRANSCEND music, and bring something different, new, or throwback with a new twist, and make that what's hot at the moment. He's basically doin the same as MJ did on his last album, which was imitated those who came after him and imitated his style....but even worst.
Now if he had taken that snap style, or just the drums and tempo...but twisted it on a whole different level, then I would say damn, he is changin things up and doin his own thing with it....and I've heard many producers do that, from Scott Storch to Jazze Pha and even Lil Jon. He's basically just going disco...and those who know about the whole funk and soul vs. disco will know exactly what I mean.

The song's so corny that youtube removed it.
-
yo i want to check the video anyone else got a link?
-
Quik should not be "Getting signed", he should be signing people with his own lttle label by now.
-
hete it or love it they just played the song on the new episode of Entourage tonight...then again, Entourage has shown DJ Quik a ridiculous amount of love during the series
-
to me this song is like a poor mans version of "this is how we do", where they just went totally simple with the beat and tried to make it into something fresh. Now this song is nowhere near "this is how we do", but it's not horrible, it gets people jammin in the clubs......and thats exactly what it was made for, so what's the problem?

Man, I got a lot of respect for your music analysis. I actually like his new track because it's his interpretation of the climate, technology. Quik is a master at adaptation and he shows it with this. Wether you like or not, it's not easy to make hits.
-
Trust me.. it's just gonna get better.. ;)

Actually he said the same damn things before dropping "Under Tha Influence" and "Trauma".. "it's not West Coast blabla", I don't know why he's so scared to sound West Coast.
-
Makes me wonder why a person who produced for, and worked with, legends and greats like 2pac, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Ludacris etc. has gone to such a low level that he must imitate a music style thats never was something to begin with...
Fuck all this snap shit, Quik needs to do his own thing.
@ R-Tistic, i agree with all your points. Good post. +1
-
i actually dont mind the song, i just wish the hook was beter....basically amg needs to stay away from the hooks
i always felt if trouble had a better hook it wouldve been amazin , same with this track..
but str8 up, quik can do what eveer the fuck he wants, he paid his dues...he can record himself taking a shit for all i care
