Quik is always evolving. Like he says, "I do this for the love of music." He never portraid a hard dude. He's always been musical but I can see your point. At least be the comical. I haven't heard the new joint but I bet it's crisp. Ice Cube did the same thing in the early 90s. Changed the game up. Like Pac said on "Rebel of the Underground," "sometimes you gotta do a little selling out just to get your record out." Quik ain't that same dude he was in the 90s. And the game has changed.

That's true, at this point in time you have to root for the artist if you're a real fan. He's not "selling out" per say but he's going with the flow. That's like saying Cee Lo sold out on that Gnarls Barkley joint. Goodie Mob Soul Food is a classic but . . . Music is more universal now and days. We just have to accept it. Gangstas are not scary anymore on wax. It doesn't sell: ie DPG. You gotta love that Quik is still eating if you're a fan man.

Did you hear Quik on Xzibit's latest album FULL CIRCLE? I forget what the track was called its round the end of the album, but I thought he was dope as fuck on that shit. U should peep that if you aint heard it and see what you think of him on that cause that shit was released only late last year!

LOL, based on what? The fact that MTV / BET isn't interested in you unless you conform to their style? Quik can still make MAD BANK doing shows. That's where most artists make their money anyway. That's something that a D4L will never be able to sustain. And they were hella relevant on TV and radio. Where are they at now? They're now the butt of jokes and people refer to wack music as "some Laffy Taffy shit". Hows that for a career?
Let me bust out some Indie math for you brotha. If Quik is Indie, and sells 50,000 cd's and he's netting $7 bucks a pop, that's $350,000. Shit look at Cube, he went Indie, and pushed 500K - that's clocking MAD BANK! That's mad fucking paper right there Almost every mainstream artist makes a MUCH smaller % off albums sales than that. He can shoot a vid for next to nothing and put it on YouTube - therefore nothing to re-coup to a major label. He can connect to his hardcore fanbase through places like Dubcc/Dubcnn (peeps like us who talk about him all the time, the ones that know every move he makes and are likely to support him financially when he drops some dope music).
Take that $350,000 add in some concerts / tours and Quik might rake in easily $500,000 for a year. Plus he can make the music that he loves, doesn't let anyone tell him what it should sound like and who he should feature.

And so when some next flavor of the week trend pops up, Quik is irrelevant again.
If he sticks to his guns and makes music that he loves, he's always gonna have that core fanbase that is always gonna support him regardless of MTV / BET and regardless of what trend is going on. The few dollars he gets from a ringtone are gonna be gone quik (pun intended) and he's gonna be shufflin to chase the next trend and do another ringtone, all while alienating his core fanbase that bought every album that he dropped up until now.

Just because the so-called "movement" that u think hyphy was died down, 40 did what few rappers did last year, which was put out a gold record. Of course, Em, Jeezy, Jay, Game, Snoop, TI, Luda, etc sold gold or more, they are the heavy hitters, and E-40 was never really a rapper that many people outside of Cali or the South didn't like. His previous album before that didn't sell much, showing a sign of his decline. He bounced back hard with My Ghetto Report Card, and I don't think anyone expected him to do what he did, a rapper though to be irrelavant making apperances on all the TV shows, having Amp'd mobile commericals and selling a gold record. Both of his singles got major airplay, and it's good for the core E-40 fans because we get to see more of him. Quik is probably trying to do the same thing, get out there, make more connections, do things a little bigger than he's doing now. It doesn't matter if Quik's new fans don't listen to the music you like, but fans are fans and you should just be happy that at least a few of those fans will go out and buy/ check out other Quik records.
