Jerry West leaving Grizzlies (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-grizzlies-west&prov=ap&type=lgns)
April 17, 2007
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Jerry West will leave as the Memphis Grizzlies' director of basketball operations July 1, ending a five-year stint with the former expansion franchise.
West, one of the NBA's great players and executives with the Los Angeles Lakers, disclosed his plans Tuesday during an end-of-season meeting with reporters. The 68-year-old West had been under contract only through this season.
The Grizzlies (21-60) have the worst record in the league and their troubles on the court have been compounded by the possible sale of the club. West fired Mike Fratello in December and hired Tony Barone as an interim coach.
West, whose silhouette from his playing days is featured on the NBA logo, won eight NBA titles as either a player, executive or consultant with the Lakers.
West startled the NBA in April 2002 by agreeing to come out of retirement and to take over in Memphis. He helped Memphis turn in record seasons and reach three straight playoffs but set a league record for 12 straight posteason losses.
I wouldn't mind him getting a front office job with the Lakers once again. 8)

^i hope so if hes not retiring or anything LA is where he belongs
-
thatd be sick as fuck if he came back to la again, but i dont think thats gonna happen for a while. i think hes juss gonna kick back and relax for now.
-
I have a feeling his heart has BEEN in LA, and he's been dying to get back here ever since he went to Memphis...Jerry loved the Laker organization, I don't see him retiring for good without taking SOME position in our front office beforehand.

I think Jerry West is done. His been talking about burn out since the 2nd title in 2001. He took the Grizzles job because it was low stress, and just making the playoffs was a huge deal. This year I think his had it, or else they would have made trades to get back into contention. So I think West says good bye to the game, and goes off into retirement.

Again, I just don't see West retiring as a Grizzly...There's been talks of his return to LA the last couple years.
-
he needs to take over mitch's job if he does come back
-
^^I think Mitch has done a good job. If he comes, he'll probably step into a much lighter position.
-
f that west could and has done better
-
Well, of course, West is one of the greatests, but he's old now...Mitch got us some 2nd round gems though (Luke Walton, Ronny Turiaf, Maurice Evans, etc.)

West needs to come back where he belongs.
