I wasn't listening to music back when Micheal Jackson was big. But going back and listening to his old music is not something I would want to listen to over and over. Sure, he could be the greatest entertainer that ever lived. He can sing, he can dance, but being a hip-hop head I could really give two shits about Micheal Jackson. And it's not because I think he's a child molestor or anything like that. I think Micheal is a very good person, and it is sad that he's so misunderstood. But when I think about great music of the 80's, the artists and groups that come to mind are NWA, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Eric B and Rakim, Schooly D, Slick Rick, Grand Master Flash, KRS 1, those are the artists I go back and listen to, they were doing music that had a message, Micheal Jackson is pop music.

i dont really like his music but if i had to listen to him i could stand it,but as i said b4 im not really a big fan of his....
-
i don't think his music is that great either ... even if he wasn't freakish i still would'nt like his music ... if i had to listen to 80's pop .. i'd listen to madonna or something .. lol
ps : Wasn't that concert with Britney etc a flop ? i heard the guests in the audence like eminem etc .. were all left scratching their heads ... cause micheal would take ages to come out on stage etc ..
-
He can sing, he can dance, but being a hip-hop head I could really give two shits about Micheal Jackson.
BINGO!!!
You answered your own question. Your a hip-hop head, you ain't in to other music. Its just not your thing and thats fine but you can't dissagree that he is one of the greatest performers ever and nearly all of his songs are classics because people are still listening to tracks like "Can't Stop til you Get Enough", "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and etc.
-

It was sold out so how was it a flop?
And and to infinite: If you didn't grow up on MJ then you wouldn't appreciate it. You probably grew up on NWA, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Eric B and Rakim, Schooly D, Slick Rick, Grand Master Flash and KRS 1 so thats why you like them so much. See what I'm saying?

That's why I asked why do HIP HOP HEADS like Micheal so much. But yeah I agree with what your saying

No. I'm 19. I didn't grow up on any music from the 80's. The only music I listened to from the 80's was straight up pop love music, because I was a kid, and I just listened to the radio. But now I go back and appreciate the music of those rappers aforementioned.

infinite59 "they were doing music that had a message, Micheal Jackson is pop music"
Are You Fucking SERIOUS? Do You Listen To Music Or Just Skim Through It? Have You Heard "Man In The Mirror", "Earth Song", Or Any Full MJ Albums? The Man Has A Message And If You Don't Know Now You Know!
Michael Jackson Is The G.O.A.T. Period...

Actually your right, I forgot about his few meaningful songs in the midst of all the love songs, but if we are going by your logic, then Britney Spears "Stronger" is also a powerful and meaningful song.

Agreed, dats wat I waz gonna say.......
Take a look at left and rite instead of stright all tha time........

Dude, when I was 7 years old, all I knew was pop music. And Micheal Jackson WAS pop music. I grew up appreciating it. Personally, I think he is extrememly talented as a singer, writer, and dancer, but that is because I was raised on it. I'm sure that 15 years from now, someone will poke at a group, rapper, singer you like, and you will defend it, even though it isn't as sonically advanced as the songs in comparison. It is all about when you were raised. I don't care if MJ's albums suck from here on out, I'll always be a fan. Just my opinion.
-

that's exactly right, I'm straight up hip hop, that's why my question was directed to hip-hop heads.
-

So What Message Did Schooly D Have? Run DMC? Rakim? Slick Rick? And All Those Others You Listed [Excluding KRS-One And Public Enemy]...All Their Songs Weren't All About A "Message" So What The Fuck Are You Talkin' About? They Talked About Different Things...Same As Michael Jackson...Not All His Songs Were About Love..."Smooth Criminal", "Beat It", "Bad", "Speed Demon", "Leave Me Alone" [Talks About The Same Thing Your Fav MC Eminem Talks About], "Human Nature", "Black Or White", And A Lot More...Have You Even Listened To A Full Michael Jackson Album? Have You Listened To All His Albums?
And How Can You Compare "Stronger" To "Man In The Mirror"...That's Like Comparing "Country Grammar" To "I Ain't No Joke" <~~~ Did Not Have A Meaningful Message And It Was By Rakim...Unless You Consider Boasting About Your Mic Skills As A Message That Can Help Human Kind!
-
that's exactly right, I'm straight up hip hop, that's why my question was directed to hip-hop heads.
so in your logic...hip hop heads are peeps who only listen to hip hop? sorry to break to you but thats complete an utter bullshit...
but being a hip-hop head I could really give two shits about Micheal Jackson.
so hip hop heads don't listen to MJ? are you sure? cause i know alot that do...including myself! plus i listen to Soul and R&B...does that make me not a hip hop head?
cause in these quotes of yours it seems that "hip hop head" has to be someone who just specifically listens to hip hop...

Damn, Yall, Yall Surprise Me WithThe Love... HAHA... For That, Here, All Yall Fans, Here's Another Track Off "Invicible", Called "Cry
http://hem3.passagen.se/invinciblefans/cry.mp3
TIGHT TIGHT Song, I Think, But Really Slow Ballad.
Basically, Mike's One Of The Greatest Talents Ever Lived, Probably The Most Talented Entertainer Ever... Frank Sinatra, None Of Those Hold A Candle To Him. I Think He's SO Talented, That It Crosses All Boundaries, And Even Hip Hop Heads Have To Admit, He Has Skill. He's almost Superhuman... Think About It... When He Was A Kid, they Taught Him How To Sing, Dance, Etc. Then, After A Few Years, It Became Evident He Could Dance Better Than His Teachers, So He Made His Own Moves. Then,TheyHad Motown Writing His Songs, And Rod Temperton... And You Know What? Come To Find Out, He Was A Better Writer Than They Were! It's Unbelievable, Just RAW Talent... So As Messed Up As He Is, He NEVER Changed, He's Kept It Real For 30 Fuckin Years.
Then, After He Got Famous, Guess What? Come To Find Out, He's Willing To Donate All His Time To Help Underpriviledged People Around The World, Especially Kids... He Starts Writing REAL Songs, Like "Man In The Mirror"
'i'm startin' with the man in the mirror
i'm askin' him to change his ways
and no message could be any clearer
if you wanna make the world a better place,
take a look at yourself and then make that change"
Think About Those Lyrics! He's Basically Admitting He Could Be Better, And Saying It's Up To HIM, Not Us, What A Humble Thing...
Then you Get Stuff Like "Heal The World", ARGUABLY One Of The Greatest Songs Ever Written, I Say
'Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
And the dream we were conceived in
Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we once believed in
Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep strangling life
Wound this earth, crucify its soul
Though it’s plain to see
This world is heavenly
Be God’s glow
We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart
I feel you are all my brothers
Create a world with no fear
Together we’ll cry happy tears
See the nations
Turn their swords into plowshares
We could really get there
If you cared enough for the living
Make a little space
To make a better place"
He's Just A Hell Of A Man, If You Pay Attention, He's How Everybody Oughta Be, Mentally. That's Why Peeps Just Naturally Love Him.

infinatate you got pop music all confused theres 2 different kinds of pop in this world
POPular music and teen buble gum pop
POPular music is something given to hard to pin-point artists like michael jackson, price, billy joel, elton john....who don't really do r&b, who don't really do contemporary rock/soft rock, who don't really do dance music, who don't really do anthing except an eclective kind of music that is enjoyed by a 13-55 year old demographic that's why it's called POPULAR music....the beatles were pop and are considered the best band to ever live by heavy metal to hip hop fans. popular music really caters to all sorts of tastes and incorperates sooooo much into it's music and is great music, that's why almost every thing Billy Joel made is considered classic by even the harshest critics becuase it's THAT damn good
then theres teen bubble gum pop which is TOTALLY different thing, right now it's the equivilant to britney spears, n'sync , and O town and yadda yadda yadda, back in the days it was New Edition and and New Kids on the block...who were both out when michael jackson was...michael jackson was actually considered ROCK music back then he was NEVER in that low of a class as new edition who was bubble gum pop, michael jackson and new kids on the block are 2 completly different things in that genre...they're the difference between Public Enemy and the Big Tymers, a real artist and a pretenders to the crown
and the reason why HIP HOP heads respect michael jackson so much is becuase in order to be a HIP HOP fan you have to be knowledgable about music that precluded it ....and when rap music first started it relyed HEAVILY on micheals music...and still does just look at the "top rapper in the nation" looks who he's sampling for his next big single and look who NAS considers his biggest influence....jacko....in all reality (and i might be stretching this a little and i emphizise LITTLE) THERE WOULD BE NO RAP MUSIC IF THERE WASN'T NO MICHAEL JACKSON if not directly influenced by Jacko...rap music was influenced by ALOT of artist that were initially influced by him with the exception of a a couple of artists like james brown....
for the people who probably will ignore my mellow man type of post....my main points are:
1. POPular music and Teen pop are 2 totally different things
2. no michael, rap music as we know it wouldn't be the same or wouldn't exist at all
3. the reason why hip hop heads respect MJ so much is becuase michael jackson is 100% dopeness no matter what kind of music fan you are
oh yeah ALOT of those pioneering rap acts were JUST as pop if not as bubble gum pop rap as nelly there NOOOOO DENYING THAT you can't honestly can't look at kurtis blow and say that wasn't some tenny pop stuff...but he gets props becuase he's a pioneer...same for alot of other acts RUN DMC and LL cool J were as hard as you got and even they're considered pop rap to a certain extent
-
oh yeah to add to the list of MEANINGFUL songs by the Jacksonator..
WE ARE THE WORLD ...him and lionel ritchie wrote that song (mostly michale) and michael actually helped Quincy jones produce it a lil and helped other singers sing it and harmonize it
-
Here's Point In Case: The D.J. That Demoed This Song 'cry'
http://hem3.passagen.se/invinciblefans/cry.mp3
On Seatlle Radio Said Mike Said That He'd Been Listening To It, Off His Album, For a Week, And It Helped Him Feel Better After Hearing It (After The NYC Bombings, He Was RIGHT There, Remember)... So He Thought He'd Leak It Himself, Without His Record Company Knowing, So Maybe It'd Help Everybody A Little Bit. 'youuu cannn channgee the worlllllddd... I can''t dooo it by myselllffff, youuu cannn touchh the skyyy... gonna takkeee somebody's helpppp... you'ree the choseennn oneee... i'm gonna need some kinda sign... ifff we all cryyy at the sammeee time toniiightttt" Damn Yall, That's Some Pretty Shit.

Oh Jake, BTW, That Was After The Grammies. Get This: The Motherfucker Wins 8 Grammies ( A RECORD), Then, He's Intelligent Enough To Realize That HEY! Everybody's Here... So, He Gets All Of Them To Stop By The Studio, AFTER The Awards! Genius... Him And Lionel Ritchie Write The Sh(t Really Quick, Get Quincy To Score It, As Peeps Stop By, They Record Their Part, In A Few Hours, It's Banged Out... Bingo, Another Grammy :)

M.J & Hip-Hop have many connections ya know. Look at how many Hip-Hop/Rap artists grew up on M.J, his music has been sampled prolly more than any other artist in the business right now. That right there jus' shows that his music as a form is highly respected.
& as far as saying his music does not have a message because it is POPular music is a load of crap. Think of how much money he's raised 4 charities with the messages of his music. He's been around 4 so long now he deserves respect solely on that, he's done more 4 music than most, he's had so much disrespect & hate remarks towards him & he's still kept his head up. Now that deserves respect.

Actually when a rapper is boasting about mic skills he's really showing the power of words, and I don't feel any power in the words of Micheal Jackson. Aparantly ya'll feel him and that's great, but I don't, I was asking ya'll why, and you answered me.
-
couldnt have sayd it better 7O4D
i agree with everything you sayd, that man deserves respect only for the fact that he been doin that shit for more than 30 years and he's still on Tee-O-Pee
that invicible album gonna blow some headz away, Im sure. the first single is a new kind of style but still tight, that new videos hot too.
Chris Tucker plays a role in the video, mike has a HOT bitch, shes dancin with him and is dressed just like Mike (everybody wanna be like Mike)
-
that was a great post Jake (the long one), i agree with all that 100%, especially about people needing to understand the music that inspired hip hop, thats real.
and anyone who doesnt appreciate MJ now probably never will. But if you grew up listening to him as I did, bought all the tapes (yes, tapes!) watched all those groundbreaking videos, and generally followed the whole thing you'll realize why he's one of the greatest people to make music EVER.
