I bought this and am reading it. sick shit. anyone else read it/is reading it?

The book is just articles and interviews Dre did in the past right. I have read almost every Dre interview so I would prolly know about 90% of the book.

Ineteresting, I might buy it next time I get some Amazon vouchers

Uh naw, it's a biography written by Ronin Ro. The book has a streamlined narrative, it is NOT a collection of interviews and articles.

Just came across something I think dre fans and haters alike would find amusing in the book:
Dre heard TLO Rage on a DJ Pooh mixtape and asked about her, got in contact her and suge told her she'd be the first act on DR released(which alot of us knew) and it talks about how she was upset when she got to CA to see Kurupt, Daz, Snoop, Nate etc. already there indicating she wouldn't get the attention she thought she would.
here's an excerpt from a moment that I think we'd all love to not only see, but recreate, it's hilarious and shows that dre still has the same problems today:
The roster- storytelling Snoop, political RBX, the gangsta-rapping Dogg Pound duo(Snoop urged Daz and Kurupt to team up), balladeer Nate Dogg, Rage, and Dre himself-would have been more than enough to help Death Row compete for an audience, but Dre kept seeking new talent. This was why, when he heard Rage playing a Freestyle Fellowship tape one day he asked if she knew how to contact them.
She snapped, "How you gonna sign somebody else when you can't even take care of the artists you already got?"
"How you gonna question me on what I can take care of?"
"You can't take care of your own artists!"
"If you don't like it, you can leave."
"well, gimme my ticket and I'm gone."
"I ain't giving you shit!"
The next morning, Suge smoothed things over during a meeting.
"Everyone is under pressure," he gently told Rage. And it was true.

IMO Dre got fucking OWNED by Rage in that argument I think by saying shit people on this forum want to say for years. I think it's cool to know that someone HAS said that shit to Dre. The test of time has proven TLO Rage correct imo, but it doesn't matter to Dre who will profit off SOME artist.

Yes I've read this book. It's really cool to read it! ;D Very interesting and I recommend it to everybody!!!
-
glad rage actually saw how dre operates and confronted him. dre's my boy but he def has a problem with worrying more about getting new artists then actually doing anything with the ones he has. i think he's gotten worse about it over time too.
-
Please put up more quotes and storys from the book...
-
Is this any good cause I'm a little bit skeptical about Ro's credibility as a writer.
-
Yeah i copped it last week, just started readin it now! Seems gud so far!
-
Lol at Rage given it to Dre. How many people would be able to do that?

i'll get this from the library, fuck buying it

^^
Thats probably, cuz Dre was starting off..i doubt she can say that to Dre rite now??
But im kinda happy that DR released, DRE, Snoop, Dogg Pound, b4 Rage got to released her own album..Which was Cool..but not what i was expecting..

Is this book any good, T? Every review I've read says its wack.
The criticisms I've read are that Ronin Ro's only sources are existing magazine interviews and articles on Dre. There's no independent info, so anyone who has followed Dre's career will know a lot of the anecdotes already.
-
^^Im only a few chapters in and so far its pretty good!!!
Only that got me is in sum of the stories of their early NWA days u kinda get the feelin that sumfins bin missed out and u feel like that particular stpry isnt finished but b4 u know it ur on the next 1.
I dont no if its just cos this woz back in the day n the full details arent known or they cant remember etc...
But it hasnt spoilt the book yet, still a lot of interestin shit in there and plus Im only 5 chapters in, so I got loads left 2 read!!!
-
i might get this if its that good then
-
Anything interesting about 2pac in there?

Tanj, If you like this book... then you should definatley check out "Have Gun Will Travel" by Ronin Ro... its all about the rise n fall of deathrow records, it chronicles every event, episode and beef connected with Suge and the DR artists around the 94-97 era.. the book reveals alot personal pasts of the artists and very interestin info on how things went down inside the row..
I'd recommend this book to anyone!

Have been trying to find this book for years man, I certainly know about it.
btw, this dre book is banging.
another interesting tidbit: as one would figure, it's suge's fault we didn't continue to get strings of classic albums like dre's solo, snoop's solo, the original schedule was
Dre, Snoop, Rage, RBX, Kurupt....BUT after doggystyle finished Suge wanted to capitalize off of r and b/recruit Pac so they started doing soundtracks because suge forced the whole operation to that. fucking suge, if not for him we'd have dre produced rage, kurupt, and rbx albums from the same group/momentum/synergy/time frame as doggystyle/the chronic. FUCK SUGE.

Have Gun will Travel was written in a cool style but contains lots of messed up facts and rumours.
Also everyone is made to look like a bitch apart from Suge.

Yep.

I tried buying this dre book at my local book store yesterday...they didnt have it in for some reason, even though it was listed on their damn site >:(
I read have gun will travel a couple years back, though some stories sound exaggerated to say the least it was a great read. I think i finished it after 3 days so ill definitely give this a chance

Yeah, sum of the stories were a bit OTT!

Someone type up the stories about NWA, Eazy and Cube from Dres book.

I LIKED THE DEATH ROW BOOK BY RONNIN RO BETTER..............
-
Someone type up the stories about NWA, Eazy and Cube from Dres book.
dont buy this fuccin book. ronin ro wrote a book called have gun will travel. it was filled wit errors and bullshit made up stories. like 90% of it was fiction.
-
just finished the book. Ro cites dubcnn as one of his sources. You can tell, alot of the quotes, towards the end of the book are straight from Nima interviews. That shit is awesome, dubcnn, part of music history.
anyway, interesting story to me:
Post Doggystyle, one of the incidents that irked Dre was he was recording a track with kurupt when kurupt pulled a gun out, cocked it on the intro of a track, rapped while toting it about, then put it back in his pocket when the song was done, for no reason at all.
there's tons more shit like that. will mention more as they come to mind.
also, DJR, what's ignorant about being angry at the fact that suge prevented the creation of DS/chronic style albums by ds/chronic style artists. furthermore, why do you defend suge in other threads, what does he do artistically, what talent does he have, what is it about him that draws followers? I'm not criticizing, i'm just seriously curious as to how suge has fans.
-T
-
suge is just a greedy asshole. him and puffy are a lot alike in that i hate them both. i think though suge had nothing to do with the music though other peacemaking and putting nazi rules in place unlike puffy. for me though old death row artists make me forget completely who was in charge and focus on how fucking amazing their music is.

kurupts for real a crazy mother fucker and that's part of why he's so great. what song was it?

First off let me say that I'll be the last person to say Suge is a saint and everything over at D.R. was all good cause we all know it wasn't. I used the term ignorant because people are always so quick to point the finger at Suge whenever something happened (or in your case something that didn't happen).

And because your explanation is a bit on the simplistic side. You can't really knock Suge for wanting to go the R&B route a little at the time and don't tell me you're not happy those soundtracks (Above The Rim/Murder Was The Case) got released. I know you're a Dre fan but blaming Suge for the fact that there were no Dre produced Rage/Kurupt/RBX albums is a bit far fetched IMO. Like so many other fans (myself included) you're just dissapointed with how certain things went. You said fuck Suge but if it wasn't for him would there have even been a Chronic or Doggystyle?

dre was gonna hear 213, dre was gonna do that style of production. efil4zaggin is a proto-chronic. on an artistic level, that shit would have happened. suge prevented that natural momentum from taking it's course. it's like if after 'off the wall' and in the middle of making; 'thriller' quincy told michael they were gonna derail the project and do a few tracks for the ET soundtrack instead of thriller.

according to the book "the things niggas do" is the song title.
and i guess i told the story out of context. the reason that incident that incident irke dre so bad is because it WASN'T just Kurupt being crazy like that, but he said that all of DR was quick to act like that like it was the cool thing to do even though most of the DP crew were no longer really active gangbangers.
ronin ro does not imply or say suge is gay in this book.

i like this book, it's quite detailed.
well, the soundtracks weren't bad, but i would rather had seen soloalbums by Kurupt, the Lady of Rage and RBX with dre production.
oh well, i guess the loss of his brother affected dre a lot; that would explain why he was living wild and was involved in a lot of incidents.
i still think it's a shame that he didn't accept the deal Jerry offered; he would have made much more money and would have had much more control over his label.

im getting this asap

yeah like most hip hop literature there's alot of truths and mistruths but it's worth it for the interestingness factor alone if nothing else

Dam soo much dope stuff coulda come outta death row. RBx solo, Kurupt solo, Lady of Rage solo and Dre/ICe Cube collab album. Dam i bet you at least 3 of those albums woulda been classics!

I would've loved a Kurupt solo on Death Row, judging from the few that have leaked like "Started" it would have been classic
