Just to let u know Thuram played 10 years in Italy, where he reached the best levels of his career in Parma first and in Juventus later. Well, he played right back just for 1 season and a half out of 10. He's a central defender to me.

So i vote Cafu.

Maldini is a centre-half to me but I didn't say anything about that.

Yeah Thuram could qualify as either but this way he has a better chance of getting in the team. ;D

Thuram is a better right-back then Cafu so he gets my vote.

Ok, let me explain it. The year and a half he played right back in Juventus, the team i support (check my sig), he simply sucked. I know he did a great World Cup in '98 playing there, but i can't give him the vote after i've seen him playing in my fav team in that role and he sucked. That's why i'm going with Cafù. Cafù did well in Roma and he's still doing pretty well (he's old) in Milan. I'm not giving Cafu my vote because i think Thuram ain't a right back, but because i don't like Thuram playing as a right back.

I here you but I'm not gonna judge a guy based on one season.

To me Thuram can be either. And I remember his good days when he played as a full-back and whenever I think of him, I think of him as just that.

Yes, he is a centre-back now (and a great one) and may have been for years but that's just my opinion.

The fact is that i've seen him for 10 years playing in the middle. And one season and a half sucking as a right back. So if you ask me if he's a good right back, i'll reply you that no he's not, and that i don't judge him from a World Cup played very well there. It's a different point of view tho.

For example Edwin Van Der Saar will be remembered as our worst goalkeeper ever, from Juventus fans.
But i know he's well respected in Holland and in England. But if you ask me about him, i still have nightmares, you know what i mean?

I have that "pic" of Thuram sucking as a right back, and another one of Van Der Saar playing horrible for us (i mean really horrible)

I was just gonna mention that about VDS. Obviously he was rotten for you. In years to come, I'll remember him as a guy who achieved a lot and was in the top 20 keepers of the 1990's.

In the same way, I'll always remember LT as a great right-back.

....

Anyway man let me add something to the discussion. I prefeer Cafù as a right back, but ask me who was been the best central defender in Italy for the last 15 years and it's one between Nesta, Cannavaro, Montero, Ferrara and THURAM. So i rate him very high. I grew up with Buffon, Cannavaro & Thuram as the magic three of Parma, the trio everybody in Italy admired and desired. Then Juventus, the team i support, bought Buffon and Thuram. And then Cannavaro. So i was happy as fuck when we acquired him for € 45 millions (insane, uh?). And the price alone could speak more than 1000 words. He was been a hell of a defender. Damn. Plus he was always been very intelligent, you know.. an hero.

The thing you will find about him playing as a back 3 is that 99% of the time he was playing as a the defender on the right-side.

So I guess he wasn't a right-back or a centre-back, he was the position half-way in between.
