Title: Remember Natural Born Killaz!
Post by: Si-Chiggedy on May 08, 2007, 12:30:06 PM
When I saw this song mentioned in Tanj's thread about music videos, I watched the video for "Natural Born Killaz" by Cube & Dre again, after a long time. I think this is a SICK song! The beat is hard as hell and both come with their lyrical finest and rap the soul outta themselves. Such a song could never be made again by them, don't you agree? Or do you expect such material on Detox? I think, when Dre found that "murder these murders" by Kam & Snoop was too controversial, I have no hope that Dre comes back with such a track on Detox and when I watch the video, I must say it's one of the dopest rap videos EVER. But maybe Dre thinks he's too mature for such songs these days. I think Cube could still come up with such heat, I loved his latest album, it had dope lyrics here and there and Cube's flow's still sharp to me.
Dre & Cube should reunite with Ren and do a fuckin record, if they could do quality like this, but that's just a dream.
I just wanted to give my appreciation for that song and ask y'all what you think.

i think it's hard to bring the rawness and fury back. i think dre's more chill these days since he's not hungry to prove himself. he's more of a musician then a gangsta now.

seriously though one of the best songs ever without question...

One of the greatest west coast, gangsta, hip hop tracks of all time. When Cube and Dre hook up, they make dope shit. But again for that to happen it falls on Dre. Cube is always ready to work with him.

yeah and the thing is, that they could do it like that if they wanted to. but in my eyes, Dre ain't driving that route no more. After all what happened, it wouldn't be "real" to make such a song, but that is not what minds, because it's about entertainment for me. I'd love to see them doin some gangsta shit again, just for old times sake and for the fans like us. Not that they ain't cool, when they rap like cube on "go to church" or dre on "imagine", but that's another world to me.
So I don't really think that Cube is featured on Detox at all.

Once dre made millions putting out Eminem that was the beginning of the end as far as him doing gangsta rap on a big scale again. He had already conquered that before he started Aftermath. The only thing that brought him back to it was the fact that 1st Aftermath compilation did not do well to his standards. So the whispers start. Dre needs to get back with Snoop, he need to go back to gangsta rap. Same when the Firm did not meet expectations. So he came back and did 2001, sold crazy units and that validated he still got it. At the same time, Dre still wants to see if he can break a artist that is not the typical mold he is used to. Once he did that with Em. he is now doing what he wants to do. He works with who he wants, R&B, Midwest, South, Eastcoast, etc and he continued making hits.

Great track, its been a while since ive listened to it. I agree though i cant see dre making another track lilke this, unless it is purely on the production side. Not gonna happen lyrically though.

Dre's too busy workin' with 50 and others.
Sometimes it seems that Dre isn't down for the westcoast no more. I mean they both still got it and could make it happen, but I doubt that Dre will ever work with Cube again.

I think Dre is down with the west coast, Bishop Lamonts his new protege and he's supposedly working with Slim da Mobster.

On the topic, this song is amazing, however imo Deep Cover is better. This was when Dre was at his best imo, making classics like Deep Cover, NBK, Gin and Juice, Let Me Ride, California Love etc. I wonder if this was meant to be on the Cube/Dre album, that Suge wouldnt release?

I loved this track. Cube would come hard on it if they did a part two or some shit. Dre wouldn't though unless he had a better writer than J. Flexx.
