Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis will interview with Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie on Thursday for the vacant head coaching job, it was confirmed by team spokesman Troy Hanson Wednesday.
Hanson also confirmed that New Mexico State coach Reggie Theus will interview with Petrie on Friday.
Rambis, a Northern California native from Cupertino, played briefly with the Kings toward the end of his 14-year career. He coached the Lakers in the 1999 lockout shortened season and took Los Angeles to the Western Conference semifinals.
Theus was the Kings' point guard when the team first moved to Sacramento from Kansas City in 1985. In his second year in New Mexico State, he led the Aggies to their first NCAA Tournament since 1999.
The Kings' coaching job became vacant when Eric Musselman was fired two days after the team finished the 2006-07 season with a 33-49 record and out of the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons.

Not gonna happen. They should just run back to Rick Adleman, they've been garbage since they fired him.

rambis is a phil jackson loyalist. i hope that equals him staying, he's been a good assistant. but if he leaves , we know he's a bad head coach, lol. won't have to worry about the queens contending against us.

Bad head coach? Kurt Rambis set records as our head coach...He was great and should get major credit for what we did in the 3peat. Had Phil never came along, he most likely woulda' gotten an extension and won a few rings with Shaq and Kobe...If he gets the gig with Sacramento, look for them to definitely make the playoffs...PeACe
