Title: Its been decided.............Lebron IS clutch! Deal with it.
Post by: teecee on May 31, 2007, 08:55:55 PM
Get rid of that other thread, it is no longer necessary.  Lebron has answered the critics, and I am sure we will all now admit it.

Game-tying three, game-winning drive.  One of the MOST CLUTCH games ever, simply amazing.

25 straight points, 29 of the last 30, INCREDIBLE game, one of the best individual games by an NBA player EVER.

He had a great game...Don't get ahead of yourself though. Dude still missed a grip of clutch shots and coulda closed it out in the 4th with free throws. Too early to call him clutch. I still think Detroit takes the next 2, like last year.

Kind of what i expected.  Don't nitpick, incredible game. He hit the game-tying three, and the game winner.

What happens when he gets a consistent jumper/three, and a post-up game?

if cleaveland wins game 6 Lebron is on the same level as kobe as far as i'm concerned. if the cavs beat the spurs Lebron>Kobe. i never thought i'd say it but it's true. period.

he's had a great 3 straight games, in the playoffs that says a lot more. plus he's only 22, that's amazing shit.

also remember this is against detroit, one of the leagues best defensive teams.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Kobe would EASILY be in the finals right now in LeBron's place with that supporting cast in the EAST. Especially with how Detroit is playing. LeBron isn't even close to Kobe's level yet.

The dude hit 14/17 (82%) freethrows in the 4th q.  Nobody can make them all.  Quit hating.

And by the way, since you like comparisons:

Present Kobe>>>Present Lebron

Lebron at 22>>>>>Kobe at 22.

Kobe may have won a ring, but he had a guy, his name escapes me right now, that carried the team.  Lebron is doing it by himself against a great defensive team.

I just watched LBJ become a man (no homo) and as for Nick talkin about Kobe at a time like this??? Dont fuckin bring him into this thread he fuckin sucked in the 04 finals against detroit shooting 38% from the field and 17% from 3 point land. LBJ has arrived!!! Im officially jumping on the bandwagon fuck what anyone thinks

Lebron at 22>>>>>Kobe at 22.

NO WAY! Kobe was amazing at 22 AND championship material. Doing things as great (and greater) than LeBron from a supporting role.

One question?  What, individually, did Kobe do at 22 that even remotely compares to what Lebron did tonight?

Guys, can we all agree to not mention KB24 AT LEAST until the playoffs are over???  I know Kobe is trying to be the spotlight right now, and the sad thing is we have let him the last couple of days, but how about instead we focus on Lebron, dude is playing amazing right now, doing things we all didn't think he could do.

The more i think about this game, the more amazing it is.  I haven't seen ann individual game in a key playoff situation like this since..........MJ.    I've never been one to compare Lebron to MJ as he is a completely different player but NOONE has done anything like this since MJ.

29 of 30 points?  Supporting cast, where are you???  Gooden and Boobie have been great this series, but had no impact tonight.  It was ALL Lebron......has anyone ever scored their teams final 25 points, including a game tying shot and a game winner?

4. Lebron played at a level only previously seen by jordan in his prime

6. If Lebron is playing a level similar to jordan one can only conclude that if he gets this series win over detroit it'll put him on the same level as kobe bryany who can't even win a playoff series by himself.
7. if lebron wins the title he'll be arguably be a bigger asset than kobe

Lebron's dunks were a result of great drive's, not easy dunks.  It was ALL him tonight, and he hit HUGE three's, when obviously he is not a great three point shooter.

He has had 3 GREAT games in a row, when Clevelands backs were against the wall; he is OFFICIALLY that dude.

And can we PLEASE stop with Kobe?  Kobe cant stand that he isn't in the playoffs, so he has to start this whole media circus bullshit to keep him name relevant when the conference finals are going on.

Fact is this:  Kobe had Shaq, so it made it a lot easier for him at 22 to dominate.  However, even Kobe never did anything close to what LBJ did tonight, and thats with the double on Shaq all the time.  Kobe has never LEAD his team to the finals, so WHEN Lebron does, we can all say Lebron is as good or even better and that will be the end of the story, and we can quit with the comparisons and the mindless posts with Kobe being brought up for no reason.

This thread should be about Lebron, a young dude who has been great the last three games, who has seriously stepped up when the whole basketball world was doubting him after the first two games.  Props to him, he is making a fan of many people, a believer of almost everyone.    My buddy Lane, the biggest, most annoyingly arrogant Kobe/Laker fan ever couldn't believe the game tonight, even he said we witnessed something special and that Lebron is on a whole nother level right now.

Shaq couldn't even play nearly as many minutes as Kobe anymore by that point. Of course his percentages and rebounds will be higher than Kobe's, that's without question. He still had his games of 14 points and 8 rebounds, which is far from 30 million a year material, and even farther from vintage Finals Shaq.

Are you kidding me? Kobe has played on levels way higher than this, dropping in the 60s on triple teams, while playing shut down defense. You hate Kobe way too much for your own good. Come on, now, Jake...We all know LeBron is NO WHERE near Kobe. LeBron is good, and he's growing, no doubt, but Kobe doesn't miss 5 free throws when the game is on the line. Despite the win and the amazing stat-line, LeBron had flaws in this game and DID NOT perform at a level "only previously seen by Jordan". LMAO@that.

This is the one thing that pisses me off about the playoffs. People go way overboard with there opinions on players because there are only a few teams to watch.

So far...

"Dirk Nowitzki is the most overrted player ever"
"Baron Davis is great. He deserved to be the MVP"
"Golden State is going to the finals"
"The Lakers are a good team, but Kobe is too selfish to help them win"
"The Suns defense isn't as bad as people make it out to be"
"Lebron steps up in the 4th quarter"

In the famous words of Chris Rock - "cut the fuckin crap"!

^^^^^ East was weaker inside wise so we were insisting on Shaq coz we knew he will dominate with ease.. just compare Shaq stats during the playoffs in the Western Conf and the Finals (during the 3peat) and you will see his stats are way "better" (not the good word) during the Finals... yeah of course Shaq was the main option but Kobe got some very important games and 4th QTs , especially in 01 and 02...   :-X at the general knowledge of B-Ball on this forum

11 makes were jumpshots (2 of which were 3's)
7 makes were dunks or layups
The other points came from the free throw line.

Sorry champ, that's no where near "95% of his shots were dunks and open lay-ups."

To be exact, 33% of makes were jump shots, only 21% of makes were dunks/lay-ups.

Of his total shots, 11 of his misses were jumpshots, one of which was blocked.  22 of his total shots were jumpshots.  That is 66% of his total shots being jumpshots.

LMFAO@no one has done anything like this. 95% of his shots were dunks and open lay-ups! Speak of overexaggeration, I've seen Baron Davis do shit like this in the playoffs. RELAX.

http://www.nba.com/games/20070531/CLEDET/playbyplay.html

11 makes were jumpshots (2 of which were 3's)
7 makes were dunks or layups
The other points came from the free throw line.

Sorry champ, that's no where near "95% of his shots were dunks and open lay-ups."

To be exact, 33% of makes were jump shots, only 21% of makes were dunks/lay-ups.

Of his total shots, 11 of his misses were jumpshots, one of which was blocked.  22 of his total shots were jumpshots.  That is 66% of his total shots being jumpshots.

I was talking about in crunch-time...Most of his clutch shots in the game were when he drove it in on single coverage (BY JASON MAXIELL :-X) and dunked it with authority. None of the shots were breath-taking besides maybe one three...He wasn't doing over the top of 3 defernders, Jordanesque fadeaway type shit like ya'll are making it seem...Detroit gave LeBron the lane, they isolated, and he capitalized. Good shit...PeACe

Yeah, way to try and cover your tracks champ.

However, in the 2 ot's:

4 makes were jumpshots, 2 were layupsdunks, the rest were freethrows.

Again, not close to 95%.

And, just for kicks, go into the 4th quarter:

His last five shots, 2 were jump shots, 3 were layups/dunks.

Still, that's a 6-5 edge for jumpshots.

Also, single coverage, triple coverage, quadruple coverage, a made jump shot is a made jump shot.  Driving and dunking over somebody still means 1) you got past the original defender and 2) you dunked over somebody.

^^So tell me something, what's YOUR point? My point is that his performance was great, but still not Jordanesque or nearly as amazing as you guys made it out to be...Jordan woulda been HAMMERED by 5 players driving into the lane like that against the 80's Detroit teams.

Ok, lets pretend i agree with you.  Basically, what you are then saying is no performance in the past 5-6 years is worthy of being considered "Jordanesque" because defense is now so damn soft.  D-Wade in the finals last year, Kobe versus the Raps, etc, none of these performances are historics because defense is so weak now,  right?

This ain't the 80's, but the fact is this:  Its been a LONG TIME since anyone has dominated the end of a game like that.  29 of 30???  In the 4th and Overtimes?  WHo else has dominated the end of a game like this?  I don't care if it was single coverage, no coverage, etc, the fact is he scored 25 straight points, each shot hugely clutch as any of those missing could've meant the Cavs lose.

Dude, LeBron shot 25 straight points for the Cavs because he shot ALL of their shots. He was a man on a mission, out to prove a point and Detroit allowed him with single coverage. They didn't even double him! I give him props, but does this make him an all-time great? Hell no. Is he one of the best in the game today? Easily...If LeBron wins this series, that could really change my opinion on him. I can't go from considering him a choker to clutch in the span of 1 game though. There's a lot more to prove...PeACe

I wont even get into free throws...

It's obvious that he was most succesful going to the hoop..He made some jumpers, but were they tough shots or were they poorly conested? LeBron did a great job, don't get me wrong... I was obviously exaggerating with the 95% (wasn't really sitting there with a calculator), but what won it for him was taking it to the rack, not his clutch play against a team playing him at its best...PeACe

LBJ has all the makings of a legend and last night will go down in history as a historic night(individually). Why Kobe came up i dont know, however its still Kobe>LBJ and there will be room for argument if James keeps playing the way he is now, especially if he leads the under powered Cavs to a championship.

edit: although im amazed, NIK wasnt actually the one who brought Bryant into the equation...

but the bottom line is if they don't go past Detroit & then win the championship against SA who gives a shit.
he's got a Long, Long, Long way to go before he's mentioned in the name's the media has been dropping him in IMO.

Lebron @ 22 is on pace to be be something great
but then again so was S.Kemp, A. Hardaway, G. Hill ect.

Great GAME Lebron, but if the Cav's don't win a championship ring or until they do.

Lol... SA is a much, much better and a much much much much much more experienced team... there is no player in the NBA that would have a good chance at beating SA in 7 if to be replaced with LeBron. It's crazy enough how this young ass team is about to beat the Pistons, a team that has been together for years (minus Webber/Ben) and went to the Finals all the time, including winning a championship against Bryant and Shaq.

Lebron has 6 assists already, as long as the open Cav hits the shots Detroit is fucked tonight!

And while i concede that the East is weak and the west is way stronger, it can also be said that Lebron and The Cav ARE the underdog against Detroit and shouldn't really stand a chance to win against a superior team.  BOTH coaches in this series suck, both teams  win DESPITE their coaches, not because of them.

I don't know what else LBJ can do in this series, he wasn't great in the first two but has been in the last three plus one quarter of this game.

I think both Kobe and Wade are GREAT players, but their teams didn't win their respective series.  And why?  After all, the Lakers were up against the SUNS, the worst defensive team in the league!  How did Kobe not go for 40 plus every night???

But ya, Flip Saunders is a horrible coach, and so is Mike Brown.

golden state had a better contingency against dallas, which means that they matched up better against them than any other team in the playoffs.  dallas was the team they NEEDED to play in order to advance, check the regular season, the only team that was really giving dallas that much trouble was golden state, pheonix too, but at least they were beating other teams. golden state had a mental and physical advantage over dallas that no other team has. it's a shame that golden state doesn't have that kind of power over any other play off team in the NBA.

Real shit:  If Kobe was triple teamed last night like Lebron, he would've shot 9 for 34, tossing up wild shot after wild shot as he doesn't know a good one from a bad one.  NOone its tough shots like Kobe, but his poor shot selection at times is why his shooting percentage is as low as it is.

Lebron took Gibson aside at the start of the year, told him he was his shooter, helped boost his confidence, etc.  The reason other Cavs are stepping up is their leader believes in them, simple as that.  You really think that Cleveland has a "strong supporting cast"?  NO, of course you don't, you just trying to get me to work on my typing skills and actually respond.

LOL@Clevelenad not having a supporting cast when they constantly win games with LeBron disappearing/looking like a role player. Kobe was the first on the phone with Radmanovic before and after he signed, telling him how much his shooting will open up the triangle for the Lakers, and look what happened with that... Why wouldn't I believe what I write? LeBron himself knows he's nowhere near Kobe. Who's OBVIOUSLY better on offense? Kobe. Who's OBVIOUSLY better on defense? Kobe. Who has won something that counts and has constantly come through in huge games? Kobe. Who is by far the best player in the league? KOBE. A lot of people can't stand my opinions, but the fact of the matter is, despite how bias it might sound, they're all based off of logic. LeBron didn't do for Gibson anything Kobe hasn't done for his players. When they play on a team together (ala USA), Kobe is LeBron's leader. Believe that...PeACe

PS. LOL@If Kobe was "triple teamed". Kobe is not LeBron, he ALWAYS gets triple teamed. I guess that's why his shooting percentage is "so low" though (<<LOL@that as well).

1. name one player on the cavs as good odom?  gooden? larry hughes? eric snow? lol illgoofus? the lakers are just as deep if not deeper than the cavs, the only difference is the heart is there, lebron is the leader and is a team player and that team can win big games. simple as that, the  lakers can't even beat the suns with the best offensive weapon in the league , then add onto that one of the best team mates to have (odom) lol.

let's look at the cleaveland cavs vs the Lakers

shannon brown
daniel gibson
drew gooden
larry hughes
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Lebron James
Damon Jones
dwayne jones
Donyell marshall
Ira Newble
Aleksander Provlovic
scot pollard
eric snow
david wesley
Anderson Varejao

okay now the lakers

Luke Walton
Lamar Odom
Kwame Brown
Andrew Bynum
Jordan Farmar
Kobe Bryant
Brian Cook
Maurice Evans
Smush Parker
Vladimir Radmanovic
Ronni Turiaf
Sasha Vujacic
Shammond Williams
Aaron Mckie
Chris Mihm

oh yeah not to mention we are coached by phil jackson  ::)

okay all that going for us and we can't beat the 2nd place suns that you degrade as not a real team anyway?

okay all that and Cleaveland wins 4 straight games against the number 1 team The pistons?

it's not the refs. It's not the media. It's not one rebound. it's sure not the benches. do you know what it is?

the leadership!

why does a team with a beat up shaquille o'neal and Alanzo mourning win the NBA championship? Why Do the spurs continually do well? Leadership. Why did the Cavs place 2nd and go on to the nba finals... Leadership.

this past regular season the cavs went

2-0 against the lakers
2-0 against the spurs
2-0 against golden state
1-1 against utah (lost first game by 1 point!)
1-1 against houston
then 0-2 vs denver, dallas, and phoenix

that's .500 against western conference playoff teams 1.000 against their next opponant  AND the "superior" lakers.

Now the Lakers

Dallas-1-3
Phoenix- 1-3 (2-6 counting playoffs)
San Antonio-2-1
Utah- 2-1
Houston-2-2
Denver-1-3
Golden State-4-0

13-26 vs western conference playoff teams, .500, which is the same as the cavs

now the eastern conference

detroit-0-2
new jersey-2-0
miami-1-1
chicago-1-1
orlando-2-0
toronto-1-1
washington-1-1
cleaveland-0-2

8-16, hmmmm now that's .500 in the LEASTERN conference for the lakers

detroit 1-3 (5-5 counting playoffs)
new jersey- 3-1
miami- 1-3
chicago-2-2
toronto-3-1
washington-3-1
orlando 1-2

14-23, .608  from the cavs.....hmmmm so the cavs through stats can fair jsut as well as the lakers if not BETTER seeing as they can beat them and play better in the eat ;)

Lebron is just as good as kobe  now

Funny how you choose to ignore that the Cavs play in the east and basically got a walk through the playoffs. I mean, do you deny that they woulda been bounced in the 1st round had they been in the west? Come on, now. LeBron is not close to Kobe as of now, and you know this. Unlike the Lakers of late, the Cavs have been a well balanced team with experienced veterans and all-star caliber playerS to fit the system. They have bigs (Ilgauskas, Vareajo, Gooden), perimeter players (Hughes, LeBron, Pavlovic), point guards (Eric Snow, Daniel Gibson, Damon Jones), shooting specialists (Donyell Marsahall, Damon Jones). And they play excellent TEAM defense...Theyre pretty much set for what they're tryna do, not to discredit James, cuz I still think he's a very good player with lotsa' room to grow, but to say he's on Kobe's level because he won this series is just not gunna cut it...PeACe

It's a storm. You know. It's like when the Heat won the title with Shaq. Now it's time for all the LeBron James' fans to show their excitement, and it's time for all the Kobe haters to hate on Kobe, again. You can do nothing about it, NIK. So maybe we should simply sit down, relax, take a deep breath and try to understand this people so excited. I feel them. I disagree with them but they have a point, there. I appreciated 7even when the Warriors eliminated the Mavs. We should do the same, homie. We should sit down, take that deep breath and try to give LeBron props for what he did without doing the mistake to understimate him. He did a great thing in Game-5, he made history. And he's about to play his first NBA Finals at 22. The kid got numbers, man. Good numbers. He has a pretty decent supporting cast (damn Gibson!), but his team was overall worse than the Pistons and the Nets too, imho. So it's not like he the easier thing in the world! Let's give him the props he deserves. Kobe is better, imho. I do agree with you. But there's only one place where to show it, and it's on the court. And there's only one thin that will shut the haters down: a 4th ring. Kobe knows it, and he knows that until he'll carry the Lakers on the NBA Finals by himself, people will continue to call him a selfish player who can't win titles / won titles because of Shaq. He knows it, that's why he's so confused and aggressive right now. I'm positive, not as positive as you but i'm pretty positive, man. But let's not stop the dream all the LeBron James' fans are living. Shit, i'm starting to like this kid too..

Yea, I pretty much agree with everything Antonio is saying, I'm just the one to voice my opinion when the hype becomes too much, not the one to sit back and watch people make outrageous claims when their favorite player is currently doing something great...PeACe
