Title: Two Sides Of A Song/Power Of Tight Beats/Rhymes
Post by: Murrow on September 02, 2001, 05:21:21 PM
When listening to a song, we all know there mainly two parts, the lyrics & the beat.  Some songs come with tight lyrics, but the beat blows.  Others come with bomb-ass beats but the song is ruined because of the raps.  There are also those songs, (the classics) that come both wit both a tight beat and off the hook rhymes.  I know I've heard many songs that are missing better rhymes here, or beats there.  Some missing one or the other.  That's where I break it down, let's take D-12's song, "Nast Mind" where Dre hits up with a sonic boom soundscape, but D-12 on the other hand fail to return with good rhymes.  I ain't really feelin their hook & rhymes.  I'd give their raps a 3, and the Dre beat a 5.  Overall, a 4/5.

Some others songs:

"I Luv It"
Raps:  4.5
Beat:  4.5
Overall:  4.5

"It's Over"
Raps:  2.5
Beat:  3
Overall:  3

"The Next Episode"
Raps:  3.5
Beat:  5
Overall:  5 (the beat does it)

Another song, "Family Affair" has a classic Dr. Dre beat, (5), but since I'm not diggin Mary's part; the song hits short of a classic.  This leads to Dre having the golden touch, let's say someone else produced "Family Affair," what would it turn out to be?  Prolly not as good.  Dre makes artists with below/average skills sound like king of the day.  It's not only Dre, peeps like Battlecat etc. do too.  Just look at what Fredwreck did for Kurupt on "Space Boogie."

Who can say this about some songs?
