Title: who copped digital smoke today?
Post by: Tanjential on June 05, 2007, 11:42:28 PM
copped it, and up until today when I purchased it, I had not heard a single track.

I think the beats are cool (except for 'just sayin' and one or two others) but the raps are insanely mediocre, even from Kurupt and Roscoe for the most part. they have some cool lines here and there but the rap is pretty eh. even the beats are just enjoyable in a non exemplary way with the exception of the awesome:

summertime
all we smoke
history

other tracks I like include:
smokin
let 'em know
i came in the door
got me going (Knoc sounds not on top of his game, but nowhere near whack)

the skits are sick and well produced too.

crazy that blaqtoven, dj quik, and ervin pope all had a hand in the album too.

I didn't got it, cause according to Kurupt i'm a fake fan, and fake fans don't buy albums.  :D

yea Tanj Knoc was cool on it. Nothing special, but not wack either. He did have some wack lines in his 2 verses, but most artists do have 1 in every 2-3 verses. Can't wait for his new album 8)

I was thinking the same thing as Tanj when i first heard it, Great production, not great verses, overall it's grown alot on me though, it's a pretty dope cd
Title: Re: who copped digital smoke today?

been bumpin this, Roscoe drops almost all heat. his verses get better with each listen. Kurupt does okay on a few songs.

that song I'm just sayin grows on me. I don't like the song 'get it'

'all we smoke', 'summertime' and 'smokin' are great. as are the skits, i like the music behind the skits.

that Kokane track is crazy too, also the Liks track is dope.

damn u dont like the song GET IT? i hella like that song.. thats the 2nd single off the album.

yeah the lyrics arent the best, but this is totally a summertime vibin cd, just pop it into the cd player and cruise.
not really headphone type of music where youre totally paying attn to the lyrics and msg.. moreso just vibin to the beats and music.

I was tellin J to make the skits into full songs haha.

Tanj - did you ever pick up Digital Master? you check out any of the videos we dropped this week on dubcnn? bunch of kurupt footage.

DJ Quik? what song did he work on??? did he produce a track?

blaqtoven did smokin right? the only non j wells production on the cd.

EPs contributed to this cd and also digital master.

DJ Quik did a little bit of mixing on the Kokane record I think.

Pope does keyboards on a song

Quik also does keyboards on a song

and Blaqtoven produced a track

all else is wells

have not physically seen a copy of digital master, and frankly I wasn't impressed enough by this record to get it before say...finishing my Quik collection you know?
but if i ever physically see a copy of it in front of me, there's a good chance I'll cop it.

I've been bumpin' Digital Smoke a lot lately. This album & Back B4 You're Lonely are my favorite West Coast albums right now. But on Digital Smoke, I'm really feeling the tracks "I Came In The Door", "All We Smoke", "Summertime", & "History". Those songs bang out the car speakers real good. But from 1-10, I'd give it like a 7.5 or 8.

And if you buy it on iTunes you don't actually own the album. you're leasing a copy for 10 dollars that is not in CDQ. you can just buy this CD in CDQ at a record store

Yeah iTunes is a bitch, i rather have a copy in my hands then just some downloaded shit on the computer, then i can download it for free of albumhunt or w/e other site, i wanna have a cd with booklet, case etc. if i spend money on it.

You are partly right and wrong here.

You do own the music.  You can burn it to a CD.  You own the file.  No leasing going on.

The quality is questionable and up to personal opinion... the quality is fine for me.  It is obviously not encoded at a high bitrate as you could rip from a physical CD, but it's decent.  If you really want an .mp3 version of whatever you buy on iTunes, you can simply burn a copy onto a CD and then rip the song again using mp3 format... this way you have an mp3 you can use anywhere which anyone can use.

I think I tried doing that: burning it onto an audio cd and then re-ripping it and it didnt work.

anyway, i always prefer copping the actual product for the artwork and liner notes and everything. All the digital smoke artowrk is courtesy of Tek 9 Designs.

i like the art.

i wonder if the dogg pound saga unfolds dvd, dogg pound liks, dogg pound YA albums will ever see the light of day

I still don't like that song get it. it sounds like they were trying to do a hyphy single.

Don't get me wrong.  I also buy physical CD's from artists I really like... and also because I too want the artwork.

I just wanted to correct the statement that the music you get from iTunes is rented... it is NOT rented... you own the file.  It's yours forever.

good skirt? what's good skirt?

I don't like all of Kokane's gay bashing/disturbing imagery (dicks in ya ass, tuck this bird in ya coochie etc.) but outside of that the track is dope.

Itz nothin is pretty fuckin dope imo.
