NEW YORK — With his new movie, the John Carpenter-directed "Ghosts of Mars," in theaters, Ice Cube said that while people can expect him to be more active with film projects than with recording in the near future, he's delivering a retrospective of his career to his fans later this year.
"It's coming out kinda tight," Cube said of the greatest-hits project during a break from recording on Wednesday. The cold one was in the studio with the Neptunes laying a new track called "In the Midnight Hour," which he plans to include on his greatest-hits collection. "The record companies kinda hooked it up," he said.
"When [the Neptunes] heard they was going to work with me, they put some stuff together in Virginia and flew it out here," he explained. "As a rapper, when you get some producers like the Neptunes to have something tailor-made for you, that's kinda of what you look for."
Cube said he's borrowing lines from his breakthrough verse on N.W.A's classic "Straight Outta Compton" for the track.
"The first line is 'Straight outta Compton, crazy muthaf---er named Ice Cube, and I'm rollin' with the muthaf---ing Neptunes.' That's the flavor. It's like old and new."
Cube divulged he may do another song with the Neptunes for the collection. He added that his following can look forward to hearing songs on the record that they helped blow up, as well as a few album cuts he considers gems.
"It's a mixture of things," Cube explained. "Songs that were big on the radio and chart-wise, like 'It Was a Good Day,' but also songs like 'A Gangsta's Fairytale' from my earlier years on AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. A video was never made, the song never charted, but clearly one of my greatest hits. 'Jackin' for Beats' is on there. 'Pushin' Weight,' 'We Be Clubbin', 'Check Yo Self,' a whole lot of them."
Cube said he's unsure when he'll make an album with all-new material.
"This might be my last record for a while, 'til I get rejuvenated," he said. "Right now I do records more for fun. The hustle and bustle of the business is boring, it's wack, it's depressing. I refuse to play the record game at this point in my career. "The business part is always the part that's wack," he added. "You gotta do it, but it's always a drag. I been doing records so long, movies is the natural progression for me. I can show my creativity on the big screen. Not only audio, but visual." In addition to "Ghosts of Mars," Ice says he's finished work on the movie "All About the Benjamins" which co-stars Mike Epps. Also, he and Epps, who appeared alongside Cube in "Next Friday," will team up again for "Friday After Next" (see). "The third 'Friday' is [going to center around] Christmas in the 'hood, pretty much. Showing how we do Christmas. It's taking the traditions of 'Friday,' but it's throwing this whole new element in the mix." Ice Cube

I don't know about The Neptunes joint but at least we got a idea of whats gonna be on his Greatist Hits. And now we know that Friday After Next is gonna be centered around Christmas which should be funny also.

And I defenitly aint gonna get it, cause I dont have dat kinda money 2 waste.

Too soon for Cube to put out a Greatest Hits album? He's been around for more than 10 years, has more than 5 albums under his name (which is more than any member from N.W.A)... I think the time is about right.
I'd buy it... I have some of his other cd's... but this way, you'll have some of the tightest songs on those cd's on just one album.. you know?
-
I dunno, I guess if yur a real die hard fan then u prolly should and would......
But wouldn't it have been better if he released his greatest hits in like a 2 cd set when he retires, so it would be more succesful, cause we all know hiphop greatest hits cds dont even go wood....just look at Ice t's and biz markie's etc etc.....
-
