Title: Do different types of liquor have different effects?
Post by: R-Tistic on June 12, 2007, 09:57:42 PM
At one time, I thought all liquors were the same, just with different tastes and different processes...but the more I learn, I hear people say that different liquors have different effects on them....in particular, speaking of vodka, rum, tequilla, gin, whiskey, grain, brandy, and whatever kinds of wine.

I have only been drinkin for about two years or so, and I'm still not a "drinker" per say...just a social one really. I usually have drinks mixed with vodka, clear rum, tequilla, sometimes gin, grain, and every once in a while, dark rum and whiskey. From what I have heard, people have said that tequilla made them act craziest. I really can't judge the difference, aside from the quality...and it seems like higher quality gives me less of a hangover, if one at all, and I usually don't have to piss as much...and for some strange reason, rum usually messes with my stomach, even if I eat right before I drink.

So from your experiences and observations, what make these all different?

Man I don't really know.  Obviously if you're drinkin beer vs. liquor thats one thing, if you're takin shots vs. mixing drinks thats another thing.  I don't know.  After I've been drinkin anything for a while I just know I'm fucked up and thats about it.  I've been drunk hundreds of times and couldn't really differentiate one drunk from another to be honest.

Well, for one, the quality of Vodka will give you different effects. The shittier and the cheaper the Vodka you drink, the more likely you are to have a nasty hangover. And from personal experience Tequila is a very dangerous drink, lol.

Darker coloured drinks like brandy will give worse hangovers than lighter drinks say vodka because they have more congeners.

Are you fucking serious? LOL.

Every brand of liquor has a noticeably different effect. Drink some Jack one night, and Courvoisier the next night, and you'll notice a HUGE difference...PeACe

Dog, don't even try to talk to me about drinking.  I guarantee that you've drank a fraction of the amount of alcohol that I have in my lifetime.  I'm not trying to act cool, I'm just saying that I've drank it all and mostly still do today.  From 1/2 gallon of $9 Heaven Hill Vodka to Cris.  For me, the only noticeable difference is like I said - the way i ingest it, the obvious differences between beer & liquor, the way I feel the next day, and of course what I might mix/chase with.

If I shoot half a 1/5 of SoCo I'm equally as jacked as if I was shooting vodka or tequila.

I used to stick exclusively to one type a drink a night, but nowadays I get way too bored with pounding the same drink all night.  For instance, last night I went out and here's what I drank:  2 Smithwick pints, Crown & Water, Amstel Light, Stella Artois, Bombay Saphire & Tonic, 20 oz. Bud Light.

^^I'm not comparing our drinking, I only drink about 2-3 times a week, but you're a pretty weaksauce drinker if you can't differentiate effects off of different types of liquor you ingest...It's like not noticing the difference between different types of weed you blaze. Then again, I've known smokers like that too...

This is like asking do different types of pills have different effects.

The nice answer is, yes they do.

You wanna feel some weird effects..try some absinthe. I drink 2-3 time a week also. Mostly in a social setting like at trendy bars and clubs. I find one of the cleanest drinks is a good vodka but when mixed the sugar can give you a nasty hangover. Try some Jagerbombs aswell. You get so hyper.

yeah weed is a good comparison, it's basically the same shit but it works differently when it's made/consumed differently.

The more impurities a liquor has in it (like flavoring or carmel color), the more of a hangover you'll get the next day.

For me it depends on 3 things:

-What I drink
-How I drink it
-What I'm doing that night

In that order.  Those all effect the 'type' of drunk I'll have.  I think it's different for everyone tho.  Darker drinks make me chill (except jag), and vodka makes me wanna party.

whiskey usually gets me pretty amped up, but thats probably cuz lately iv been mixin it with energy drink...

its hard to tell if the different spirits have different effects.......cuz on any given night you'll take more shots or have more mix drinks, or drink them faster/slower, or have more food in your stomach or whatever.  hell, even the atmosphere you're in is gonna affect your mood and how you respond to the booze, plus how many cigs/joints you've had....its too hard to tell.

that said,  Absynthe, tequila and wine are definetly a different drunk.

everclear when we were in the states was the shit,
i wanted a frozen drink as it was hot as hell nd they had some drinks called cherry bomb and jungle juice made with that ish...
...190 proof grain alcohol (95%)

colourless, tasteless when mixed and doesnt make you stupid drunk but it made me trip one evening, hallucinating a little but pleasantly when we got back to the hotel

imma order a bottle on import over here... Many of the US provinces have made it illegal to buy Everclear

Everclear is commonly added to a variety of other drinks, such as soft drinks, juice, iced tea, Gatorade or Powerade. Everclear is often consumed at college parties mixed with fruit juice or Kool-Aid and mixed fruit in a large tub and goes by names like Spodi (in the Pacific Northwest), Trashcan Punch, RAT Poison, Hunch Punch, PJ (Party Juice), Cowboy Kool-Aid, Hairy Buffalo, Screaming Libra, Purple Jesus, Jungle Juice, Jesus Juice,Monk Juice, Stupid Juice, Death Mix, Sex Mix, Vat, or Wap (in reference to a popular drink made by mixing Everclear with Sprite and Hawaiian Punch). The fruit in this drink absorbs lots of the alcohol, as in sangria. Some notable Everclear mixes:

"Angry Lumberjack" - a half shot of Everclear and a half shot of maple syrup
"Apple Pie" - a litre of Everclear, a gallon of apple cider, a gallon of apple juice, 8 cinnamon sticks and 3 cups sugar
"Blackout Juice" - a fifth of Everclear and 64 oz. of fruit punch Gatorade
"Crossett Chronic" - Everclear mixed with a can of root beer
"Drunk Ninja" - Everclear and Kahlua
"Everbeer" - Everclear mixed in a bottle of Coors Light
"Ghetto Romance" - a fifth of Everclear and 2 cans of Rockstar
"Hairy Buffalo" - fruit, Everclear, punch, and a choice of other liquor mixed in a large tub (consumed after sitting overnight)
"Macho Jamaican" - Everclear or 151 rum mixed with Jolt Cola
"Pink Lightning" ("Gozer") - one part Everclear and three parts pink lemonade
"Pink Panty Dropper" - Everclear, Natural Light, and pink lemonade
"Stealth Bomber" - Everclear mixed with a can of Natural Light
"Three Mile Dick" - two shots Everclear mixed with a can of Brisk
"Jungle Juice" - Everclear mixed with fruit punch
"Loaded Munson" - one part each of Everclear, club soda, and sweet & sour
"PPC - 4 parts Everclear and 1 part whiskey
"Four Horsemen and Hell Follows" - equal amount of Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniels, Jose Cuervo, and Everclear.
"Tucker Death Mix" - 1 can of Redbull, 1 quart of Gatorade and 1 pint of Everclear
"Everdew" - Everclear and Mountain Dew
"Darth Vader" - Everclear and Purple Powerade

Stuff like beers n' wines get you kinda' tiered. When I'm chillin' I prefer Henny, Whiskey or beer. For partyin' I usually drink Vodka, Bacardi rum n' stuff like that. If you mix it with sweet stuff like Coke, Sprite juices or whatever tha' alcohol gets into your blood way faster 'cause of tha' sugar. Another point is if you mix it real good, you don't even taste the alcohol, it doesn't burn. By mixing liquor with sugary stuff, you get tipsy way faster and get kinda hyped up n' set for tha' party. What you shouldn't do is drinking all kinds of shit without kind of a order. Beers to start with, has least alcohol n' after that you can start drinkin' liquor. But don't drink liquor then some beers then some liquor n' so on, I've made real bad experience with that dude.

It's banned in 5 different states, including mine. It's not to hard to drive across the boarder to get it though.

i think he was referring to TYPE of drunk, not how quick you get drunk, or how drunk you get.
