So I just got back home from Palm Springs Ca….. I had to do a radio show called The Basement (fly show!) and make an appearance at a club with my dude Mayor and his cuzzo Jason……You know I got sloppy drunk in the club, holdin’ two bottles of Grey Goose in the air everytime the d.j. played Big Shit Poppin…..but anyway, in the midst of the madness, this hip hop purist slash sexy ass bitch asked me who the best rapper ever is…….But of course I answered that question in my hotel room!...... So goodlookz baby ma, u gave me sumthin to speak on and speak on it I shall…………
Tupac Amaru mudda-fuckin Shakur is number 1…Why?...Bcuz the man has been gone for over a decade and I have 45 un-released song by him that are ten times better that most the shit out now!...Work Ethic 101!....Go listen to So Many Tears..that shit is poetry!…Lord Knows..that shit is thug gospel!....Part Time Mother??? Souljah’s Story???...I’m talking pre-Deathrow Pac right now, I aint even gotta mention All Eyes On Me or Don Killuminati to shut u niggaz down! Haha!!...How many rappers got tattoos everywhere and a six-pack bcuz of dat dude?.......
Jay-Z is number 2….Do you listen to his music or just skim thru it??...Yeah yeah I heard it all, ‘Jay be usin’ other niggaz lines too much’ or ‘ all he talks about is money and ice’…..okay you done?...Fuck that!...From one spitter to another, you ill my nigga…..All around flow hands down…Story tellin’…Gangster shit….Drug dealinz…Radio hits….Club bangerz….Consistency…..Don’t argue with me my niggaz!!..I KNOW THESE THINGS!!! Reasonable Doubt or Illmatic? You don’t know, you think you do because some music critic preferred one over the other and convinced you of what you think you know now!!!..Song for song you can’t tell me which album is best…but….i can tell u! hahaha!...
If u aint got beef yet, you will because number 3 is Ice Cube! Holla-back-what-it-do!!!...I’m havin’ an imaginary argument with all u niggaz!!............Who rocked the Apollo so hard that the hustlers in the crowd threw money on the stage? Who was the lyrical backbone to one of the greatest groups of all time N.W.A.? Who is an originator of Gangsta Rap?....Ice Cube has classics under his belt ya dig…….Amerikkka’s Most Wanted put production from my westcoast pimp potna Sir Jinx together with Hank Shocklee and The Bomb Squad!!..East meets West on a classic album from start to finish…… The Death Certificate Album cover alone is un-fuckwitable……A TOE TAG ON UNCLE SAM?!?....That albums socially conscious lyrical content made gangbangers join the Nation of Islam!!....As a matter of fact, number 4 called himself the new Ice Cube on a joint with number 2 called Renegade…………..
Yes, 4 is Slim Shady……..Why?...Maybe bcuz he can spit better than anybody you think should be number 4 (I’m still arguing with u niggaz) or number 3 or number 2…………Okay peep this, when a rapper writes a rhyme, the degrees of difficulty INCREASE when metaphors and similes have to be placed in a specific rhyme scheme therefore more points are awarded to those who can deliver dope rhyme patterns and dope rhymes simultaneously……Em understands……Which brings me to my tied for number 5 niggaz!!....Now here is where I get into trouble!....I’m gon’ have to tuck my chain in Brooklyn after this! Hahaha!!...B.I.G. and Nas tied for number 5…….
You niggaz ready to argue yet?!?.......I GOT MY SKY-BLUE SUGARHILL GANG T-SHIRT ON AND A FULLY LOADED CLIP SO BRING IT!!!lol……..Many people say B.I.G. is the BEST EVER and I might agree if he had more time to bless us with his creations….B.I.G. had everything it took to become the best ever….Charisma, skills, the ability to get gangster-grimy and still make club anthems…….One more album would have moved him up my personal top ten…I cant even imagine what that album would sound like! I know it would save us from some of this garbage out here right now!!! R.I.P. B.I.G. tied for 5 with my dude Nas……..Just so you know, on my list, number 1 is only winning by a nose and number 2 is ahead of 3 bcuz he’s stickin’ his neck out or sum shit………In other words, there aint a big gap between 1 and 10 and there aint no finish line so somebody could drop a classic and take the lead at anytime!...........Oh and I don’t put niggaz in my ten based on how many birds they flipped or who they shot and left bleedin’ or how many years they was locked up cuz that shit don’t impress me………...............
Now my Q.B. son Nasty Nas!!!.......His library is ridiculous, his influence is major, his style, you heard Ether ‘you love his style’!.........So that’s the first 5 yadda dig…….chew on it….sleep on it…..hate me………Allow me to make one more controversial statement, I banged It Was Written wayyyy more than Illmatic!!!!!!!........Opinions are like assholes so im an opinionated asshole!..........C.O.B….nexxweek

Someone already posted his fav like 2 weeks ago!
-
Id put NAS higher on that list and Id replace eminem all together with Canibus.
-
The mystery of Jay....I still shake my head when he's continuously put in the top 5. Craziness.
-
already posted http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=146261.msg1519486#msg1519486
is 6-10 out yet ?

Illmatic has had way more impact on the industry then Jay-Z ever had, imo from the top 5 he picked should be:
1. Nas
2. Eminem
3. 2Pac
4. Biggie
5. Jay-Z
I dunno who to place first, 4 and 5 are definite my choice, but the top 3 is hard. He picked Nas, Eminem and 2Pac. I like Pac's music but he is too overhyped imo his death brought him more fame than his music. Eminem has dropped 2 classics imo, 2 great albums, plus all his features in the era 1999-2005 have been dope. I think his mic skills are topnotch, but Nas is the best. He still droppin' heat to this day, hasn't fallen off or something and stuff.

lol at jay-z bein on that list.

co-sing jay-z is average

First of all, Pac has to be number 1, because he made songs with meaning. But not just a few, just about every song he made had meaning to it. He made albums with real messages....and had the ability to really translate his thoughts and feelings and other pepoles stories........#1
Secondly, Wherever biggie is placed in a top 5-10 ranking, King T should be put in his place.

I'm a big King Tee fan and I think he's a west coast great, but no way he's at the level of Biggie

ANOTHER rapper puts Jay is his all-time top 5 list. Hmmmmmm. Perhaps he's not quite as over-rated as some think?
-
lame, it's always the same shit with people
2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem.... ::)
-
Jay-Z? Hell naw.

ANOTHER rapper wants Jay on their album
-
And you know we can't forget Scarface.
-
Gotta agree with the Nas quote though. It Was Written was so fucking ill. I love that period of rap when shit was turning into that Mafioso cuban link shit.
-

LMAO, 200% co-sgn, but dont get me wrong, some of the people on that list actually were really gifted, talented and did alot for hip hop, but is is always the same damn list LOL!!
-
Well the best are the best can't change it.
What if he mentioned for example this as his top 5??
1. Lil' Wayne
2. Lloyd Banks
3. Young Jeezy
4. Jim Jones
5. Rick Ross
Y'all would be mad as fuck and whine about "how they have no skills" etc.
The point is, there are just a few mc's who are the best, the order might differ but there's a select few that deserve in the top 10 mc's of all time, and these people always get mentioned cause they ARE top 10 of all time, period.

2 Classics? Dont know about that, SSLP and MMLP were great albums...I case you could consider them classic the same way Stillmatic and Blueprint are sometimes called "classics". But if your criteria is catalogue, which I agree is the correct way to judge imo, then where is Cube?? IMO you can argue that Cube has SIX Albums better than Em's best: Straight Outta Compton, Amerikkkas Most Wanted, Death Certificate, Predator, Lethal Injection, and Bow Down, we're talking about 2 completely different levels of greatness here.
Speaking of Cataglogue...Biggie was a GREAT MC but the dude only dropped two albums, one of which is severely overrated....its crazy that people consistently have him in their top 5.
And you know we can't forget Scarface.
A-M-E-N. Real talk right right there...Scarface is criminally underrated...Scarface = Jay-Z X 10000

Gotta agree with that, I love that kind of rap, but only when it's executed buy the right people (Nas, Raekwon, Kool G Rap, Ghostface, Biggie...).
Also, gotta agree with Xander's last post.+1 to both of you
-
Replace Jay-Z with Rakim and Eminem with Scarface
-
After seeing that list I have a clue of why I never felt his music...
-
He sounds drunk as fuck
-
lame, it's always the same shit with people
2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem.... ::)
Perhaps that tells you something...

The Death Certificate Album cover alone is un-fuckwitable……A TOE TAG ON UNCLE SAM?!?....

wait hold up, did a mothefucker just say Illmatic has had more impact on the industry than Jay-Z has in general? the same oh-so-influence-potent Illmatic that didnt go platinum in sales until 6 years later? are you telling me this album has had more impact that NAS himself has? Because Jay-Z has way more influence/impact that Nas and this one album.
you bring your ass back to this topic and debate this bullshit with me right now. >:(
-
Illmatic might not be really that big of an influence in your books, but let me tell you that this opened up the door for a lot of rappers in the underground and shit.
Jay took over the mainstream for several years with his first release(s), i recognize this, but the (artistic) success of Nas made New York rap big again, in a time where the west was dominating (the early 90's era, anyone??) so yeah i definately consider Nas opening doors for rappers and stuff, people always see the big (mainly based on sales) success of Jay-Z, but i would go as far to say that if Illmatic didn't drop, Jay probably wouldn't be where he's at today and certainly wouldn't have that big of a status right now.
I'm a fan of both, but i gotta say Illmatic >>> Jay-Z's whole catalogue. The lyrics, flow and simple yet superb beats on Illmatic are not to be fucked with.
-
Illmatic....GOAT EP.
;D
-
Id put NAS higher on that list and Id replace eminem all together with Canibus.
props
-
Eminem ? Lol
-
for yall that say that jigga dont belong in top 5, u dont know what the fuck ur smokin.....there are alot of things to hate about jayz the person, but as an emcee, he has the greatest lyrics and flows compared to every other rapper EVER besides eminem.....listen to his older shit, and im not just talkin bout reasonable doubt, i mean ALL his older shit, and every song, he switches up his flow and gets real versatile with it, and thats sth that many others dont and CANT do....crooked understands that shit, thats why he puts him so high up there...
-

If a rapper like Crooked I ( a dude who definitley knows his bars ) says Jay is one of the best, that SHOULD tell everyone that Jay is one of the best ever. Personally, I'd still put Nas above Jay.

Illmatic >>> Jay-Z's whole catalogue.
If you're saying that in the sense that it is better than anything Jay has ever released then maybe you're right but is isn't great than "everything" Jay has put out there.
Meaning Nas' debut album >>> Jay's discography. If that's what you meant then you're wong.
-
Illmatic is ok, not that crazy like everyone says it is, its not bad it ight, nice lyrics but harsh old school shit oviously lol. I havnt really gotten into Nas but i just downloaded Illmatic thats y i say its ok and Hip Hop Is Dead, i gotta check that out!!!

Whoa the internetgangsta has found its way to the downloads, go buy that shit fool, support real music. Spend your money on that instead of the next Spider Loc mixtape. :-\

I meant it in the first way you speak of. IMO Illmatic is better then anything Jay ever released, but some people don't seem to see that it is just my opinion plus they twist my words.
-
eminem and jay-z are wack
-
^ Lol, nowadays that's so true.
-
Jay-Z and Eminem are inconistent rappers they dont belong in the top 5
