He beat out Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, Pau Gasol, etc. for Euro player of the year...He handed the US their ass in the last world tourny...I haven't watched him play too much, but I heard lots of good things... Hopefully, the Lakers make this happen.

Good player for the Euroleague. He's not a phenomenon, just to let you know. He's not so spectacular like they make it looks in these highlights, he's not a pure shooter, and imho he's not quick enought to defend against NBA guards. But he's a good team defender, with great basketball IQ, good experience, can find a way to score. I don't know, man. He could be a good bench player, but he's not worth the MLE, imho. Just to make a comparision, he's way better than Sasha Vujacic. Not even close. He's probably better than Farmar too. But i don't know. He's not on the same levels of Nowitzki, Parker, Gasol, etc.. don't get fooled. Those ones are on a whole different level. There are a lot of good guards we could select with the 19 pick in the draft who could be good projects and could be better than Papa, in the future. One of them is the italian player Belinelli. I dunno about giving the MLE to Papa, man. It's probably too much. If we really wanna give the MLE to a PG from Europe we should do the best to sign Barca PG Navarro. This guy could have the same impact of a Tony Parker, or a Manu Ginobili.

Not Papa. He's a good team player, very experienced, but not skilled enought imho.

^^It wont be for the MLE...
if he's not spectacular, why did he win Euro player of the year? And why does Rick Kamla keep raving about him? I'm sure he's not just considered another player in Europe... Looks like a triangle PG to me.

He won the 2006 FIBA Europe Player of the Year award mostly because of how he played in the FIBA World Championship in Japan. Plus he plays for one of the best teams in Europe, who won the Euroleague, if i'm correct. That's why. He's a good player, man. I said he's not spectacular, not that he's a wack player.

Triangle? Yes, maybe, yes. He's not considered another player in Europe, he's a good European player, like i said. But he ain't no Tony Parker, no Ginobili, no Dirk, no Gasol, etc.. He's 30, still playing in Europe..

good shit antonio +1 thanks for the info. it sounds like u really know ur shit

I'm European, i see Euroleague on tv.
Anyway yeah, he's better than Farmar and Vujacic for sure. But he's 30, that's what i'm saying. I'd rather get Nikos Zisis from Benetton Treviso. He's like 20, and he has def a better potential. I dunno if we could get him with the #19 pick. But he'll be a very nice addiction, imho. Oh, he's the 2006 FIBA Europe Youth Player of the Year anyway.
Oh, and this throphy is young, just in the 2nd year. They give it to players who play well in international games, basically.
There's another throphy they give here, and it's the Euroleague MVP. And former Laker Shammond Williams won it last year. Just to let you know. lol.

so this is smush's replacement?
:P
i hope he plays at the same level in the real league.
-
Papa is better than Smush, imho. Smush is not a playoff type of PG. Papa is. The only low thing about him is that he's already 30, and he won't join the NBA for a mediocre contract, since he's getting paid pretty well here in Europe.
-
he's not a good shooter but he has way better basketball iq, attitude and distribution skills compared to whackass smush
he alone won't bring LA back to the glory days tho :P

LOL obviously.

From what I've been hearing, he's the Steve Nash of the Euroleague, only much bigger, and his game is well developed. Unlike the young player Antonio is talking about, Papa will be able to contribute instantly. This is the exact type of point guard we've been looking for in the triangle IMO...PeACe
P.S. Of course this wont be our only move this off-season. Just a beginning in addressing the PG issues.

this signing will be the start of an exciting laker off season. after all u guys need to move kobe right? 8) kush. good kush

He's not really a Steve Nash type of player. He's not as good as an assist-man. Anyway don't get me wrong, man. I thought we had to waste the full MLE for him, and imho he's not worth the full MLE cause we could better invest that money to sign a PG who already plays in the NBA and who is already certified, if you know what i mean. But if we can somehow get him for less than the full MLE, like i said, he's NO DOUBT better than Smush, Farmar and Vujacic. If you ask me, i'd get him PLUS the young cat from Benetton Treviso (there are a lot of very skilled young players right now in Europe) with the #19 draft pick. I'd keep Farmar for another year, but i ain't really a fan of him. Obviously i'd get rid of Vujacic, Smush, Shammond Williams, McKie, etc..

Euro Basket.com: “The most high paid European player will be continuing his career in the CSKA Moscow untill June 2010! Theodoros Papaloukas (200-G-77, agency: Interperformances) became officially the most expencive player (European) with the new contract of 3 million euros (net) per year for the next three years who will be wearing the Russian jersey of CSKA.”
Same old story, right? The Lakers are interested in a player and what is the end result? The Lakers are empty-handed, and Mitch Kupcake is left with nothing to prove.

^Son of a bitch.
-
He's 30 years old with no experience at all in the NBA. I'd rather get Fisher than him.
-
Yea, I mean, dudes nice and I'd like him for a minimum deal, but it could turn out to be a project and it seems like he was demanding too much...PeACe

30 years old.
