Title: Thoughts on [Rhythm & Gangsta] after three years?
Post by: 4108 on July 01, 2007, 07:32:26 PM
im thinking this is probably his third best album. (right behind --Doggfather, and the obvious -Doggystyle). everything in between-then-to-now strikes me as a prolonged decline of more-or-less, the same repetitive shit (TBCT included) with low replay value. so having explored pretty much every album of his (which all embody this after-image of being "re-ups" of the prior album) I have noticed R&G has its own individuality and is not directly, a doggystyle/doggfather copycat attempt. but what can i say - people will either love the novelty of it, or disabandon it for the artist taking a slighter and steeper approach with his 10th disc.

my only real problem with rhythm & gangsta is it gets away with fillers too easy. -- well not even fillers, but I'll be damned if they DIDNT get careless with the tracklist-ordering. (because you could very well call everything on here a filler or either a "song that supports the theme", whatever floats your boat.) now this album is full of "alternative single choices", but what was the reason "step yo game up f/ trina, lil jon" was right behind "lets get blown". them executive producin' niggas know that shit ruins the mood right?

now I just checked this out again today, three years later. I never knew how much S.L.A.B/cruisin potential this shit had. I mean seriously, that clear-ass neptune mixing/mastering with some shit that just jams in general will make this stay in constant rotation for a long ass time. (or until i remember why I put it down in the first place). my only beef with it is the tracklisting, but being the asshole i am i went and took that issue upon myself for my own car/slab's sake. (and i am usually against changing songs for my own sake because it deithers the actual album experience sometimes, but i couldnt help myself. but i am with d-nice, i would not change a damn thing on doggfather) but what do you think about R&G now?

damn Last Meal aint in your top 3 best snoop dogg albums ever....lol...i agree R n G had too much fillers but Tha Last Meal had Dre mixing the majority of the album and some of the ones he didnt have anything to do with still banged like crazy, but each his own i guess....my top 3 snoop albums are

1. Doggystyle

2. Tha Last Meal

3. Blue Carpet Treatment.....tho Top Dogg comes close but i actually find i can listen to more songs on BCT then Top Dogg to be totally honest.

seems all of Snoop's shit I thought went hard two-four years ago Im starting to see does not hold up as well now. (once again, replay value) Doggystyle/R&G sound as fresh as ever, and im thinkin its because of the mixing/mastering and people involved. Last Meal is cool', but I aint tryna jam that like that because for a most part im not feeling it anymore.

and nah Last Meal aint nowhere to be found in my Snoop top3. Doggfather has the better songs than any other Snoop album period. -- the mixing/mastering is what keeps it pissed on, but really if you dissect it you will more likely than not, - agree with me.

lol for me theres about 8 songs on blue carpet treatment i cant stand and about 10 on Top Dogg i cant stand....production on top dogg kinda kills it for me...i like the dre/quik/jelly roll and buddah beats....the rest kinda sound crappy....the 8 songs on blue carpet that i dont like have crappy production too....im a beat person, if the beat is knockin i could give a shit about the lyrics...if its the other way around and the lyrics are hot and the beat is not then i cant be bothered lol (i know sounds stupid eh but thats just the way i am)

^ props on being real/yourself about that.

i do not give a shit about lyrics or beats, but more so the musical vibe i get as a whole.

Never liked "R&G" that much, a few dope tracks but nuthin more, but nooo way it is Snoop's 3rd best album.

1. Doggystyle
2. NL Top Dogg
3. Tha Last Meal

damn Last Meal aint in your top 3 best snoop dogg albums ever....lol...

"Tha Last Meal" has too many syntetic beats - without any samples... "R&G" too.

if you have soulseek it washes up along with the other unreleased tracks of R&G (ex.- "No Sticks, No Seeds", "Get To Know Ya", "Stay", "Step Yo Game Up f/ Daz") but I will see if I can up it. quality is good, it just isnt mastered with as much clarity as say: "Signs" or "Lets Get Blown"

im a big snoop fan but to me this was a terrible album ,all the bits of snoop i dont like put on to one album. He has since made up for it with TBCT.

that is actually not a bad idea, I doubt Snoop has that kind of consistency in him though hahaha

as far as zipping goes, I will try my best with my 56k connection haha.

Damn, you will be downloading for 3 days for that  ;D

At this point it would make sense for Snoop to do a double album. He has SOOOO many dope unreleased songs he might as well. He is trying to appease everyone on 1 disc anyway.
