Title: T.I.'s officially a monster sales-wise
Post by: topdogg187 on July 05, 2007, 12:41:02 PM
T.I. TOO MUCH: Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. will have the best-selling album in the country next week. Better known as Atlanta rapper T.I., the Grammy-winning hip-hop star’s new release, T.I. vs. T.I.P., on his own Grand Hustle label through Atlantic, looks headed over the 500k mark, heating up the summer sales season and easily making him next week’s #1 album. Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland is up next with her sophomore album for Columbia, Ms. Kelly, the follow-up to her 2002 effort, Simply Deep, on target for sales over 100k, according to reports from retailers still recovering from Fourth of July fireworks. RCA’s new Velvet Revolver album, Libertad, the successor to the 2004 double-platinum debut, Contraband, sees the rock supergroup at, or just shy of, the 100k mark. (7/5p)

This is taken from hitsdailydouble.com. Man he's gonna end up doin about 550k first week those are massive numbers jsut as much as king maybe even more, he's offically a soundscan monster and probably only second to 50 right now sales-wise. His album deserves it too it was a solid album front to back.

I must be living in a cave or something but I haven't even heard his first single yet. I was listening to the album this morning while I was in summer school (Don't ask) and it sounded solid from what I heard.

Im surprised if its true, I expected him to do like 300.000.

His singles aint doing shit compared to King but its all about putting yourself out there, its not even a question of having a number 1 single (Mims for example). Thats why I still think 50 made a huge mistake by not having stick to the release date, he was attention whoring so much, hed do around 700.000 easilly. Singles dont mean shit anymore.

Definitley is. He'll hit gold by next week, and will be on his to another platinum plaque. Nowadays, a rapper can't be expected to do too much more. Especially since "Big Shit Poppin" wasn't all over the radio like "Watcha Know" was.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was true, but that's because T.I. has at this point reached the kind of cult status that Jay-Z and Luda and Snoop have...he's got so many dedicated fans that they'll snap up his shit the week it drops.

But without a major hit (and so far, "Big Shit Poppin" ain't doing much), his numbers will not stay consistent into the 2nd week.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit Plat again, but it won't be 1.7 million like "King" this time.  He needs a hit, and he needs it FAST to stay on top.

Does not really surprise me. The south is always supportive of their music. Add to the fact you have a loyal T.I. following, and add the new fans he got after King dropped and there you have it.

yea...i'm still gonna be happy as fuck lol, how can i not be? us T.I. fans are extremely loyal, and yea figures this was gonna happen after King..but i thought he was missing 2 elements that king had:

a) a movie 2 help the buzz
b) a huge single

for those reasons i thought it would sell less than king (still go plat. off his loyal fanbase) so i am surprised to see it sell this much

interesting will be to see how his next cd sells, since King got great reviews (prompting this cd 2 sell) but this cd's reviews are more mixed...i say this, but at the same time i wonder 2 myself why i ever question him, he always proves me wrong ;D

It's true he's no Hip-Hop messiah, but at least he's bringing more from the south than some Laffy Taffy.

60 % means that 60% of the national sales have been counted(well 60% of the stores considered in Soundscan system)... but in the 40% remaining , T.I still can 300k or plus... there is no proportional logic behind these % .. this is based on geographic places

Hey, it's still time for you to go buy that remaining 35.000...               just playing loc.  :D

T.I. stepped up to definite A-list with King, any T.I. album from now on, will go at least platinum without any effort.
The features is a good indication, when you can get blockbuster names like Jigger, Busta, Wyclef, Eminem, Nelly on your album, the album sells itself.
I knew T.I. was capable of it ever since I heard "I'm Serious" with Beenie Man, he is now officially the Jay-Z of the South, like his aim was from the start.

lmao i ain't mad at 465,000 at all, better than any rapper has done this year, altogether (not jus week)...The record will indeed go plat. without any effort, he's created that fanbase for himself...He should drop Touch Down as the next single 2 keep his #s goin steady

Looks like having a hit single doesnt mean shit anymore; T-Pain and Rihaana had one and they both flopped big time. On the other hand T.I. wasnt even close yet he did these numbers.

Anyways, props to T.I., he deserves it.

Yeah but the charts show that R&B albums can have slow starts and pick up quickly (Fergie, Robin Thicke, Corrine Bailey Rae). Rap albums seem to have a couple of weeks of shelf and chart life and it is downhill from there. Even rap albums that have had a good first week sales are struggling to go gold now. But yeah congrats to T.I., hopefully now this will kickstart rap again saleswise.
