I generally dont believe it is but i saw this interesting little fact
The 2006 World Cup final attracted more television viewers than baseball's 2005 World Series pulled in on any single night
Also
Soccer is the most popular recreational sport for boys and girls in the US. More young people play it than any other sport.

If the second part is true then it wont be long till america is a major force in world football, quarter finals in the last world cup was pretty good. Already at Englands standard ;D
-
The World Cup games were also shown here at 6am, 9am, 12pm on the west coast. Imagine the ratings it would have pulled if it was prime time

There is no way soccer is more popular than baseball. Professional baseball draws 20,000-40,000 people every game over a 162 game schedule, MLS games draw 10,000 people a game over like 30 games. Half those people use free tickets.
Alot of young kids in America do play soccer, but when they get older they switch to other sports. In high schools, all the best athletes play football, baseball, and basketball. The smallest, weaknest, and nerdiest kids always play soccer, which is why it has such a bad image in the US.

Wait, your nerdy ass watches sport? I figured somebody who would take so much time to be a joke poster wouldn't have time for sports.

MORE KIDS PLAY SOCCER THAN BASEBALL IN THE US......but most kids play multiple sports and they drift from soccer to one of the 4 major money making sports

my little brother and his friends all played soccer at 4 years old, by 6 none of them played soccer
-
LMAO at ANYONE thinking soccer is for the "weak and nerdy"...Soccer is the most tiring sport in the world, and is wayyyyyyyy more "manly" than base ball...I fucks with base ball, but soccer is amazing...no "weak and nerdy" sport would be the most popular sport in the world
-
it's no that bad considering it is extremely shitty soccer drawing 10,000+ people a game, considering how far the MLS is from the Premiership or to La Liga in terms of skill
-

Yep that's very true. Chelsea played some Korean team the other day and it was like 15,000 people.

clubs with tradition attract 60.000-80.000 people here in Germany. I can't understand why the world cup increased the interest in soccer in the US. Almost everywhere in the world soccer is no 1 sport
and lol at soccer as sport for weak and nerdy kids
-
lol@callin it soccer
its football
and its fuckin great!!!!!!!!!

i think baseball is the most boring sport we have in the states. i dont know how those players get paid that kind of money.
soccer will never get as big as the other south American and European countries. over here, the American culture associates sports with breaks, commercials, and advertisements. nobody wants to run without breaks.
soccer>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>baseball.
however, the casual American would try to defend the differ. i dont blame them because they are conditioned to look past a sport that has constant play.
-
i wouldnt call an activity where the "attacking team only" have one man on the pitch while maybe 10 others (dont know exactly) are sidelined for "sport" .. but thats just my opinion and nothing i would like to start a discussion over...
ive actually given both baseball and american rugby opportunities... i've tried to watch superbow,, twice... its like being bored to death

Soccer is popular with little kids because it is so simple to play....running around kicking a ball. But when they get older and more cordinated than they move on to to more challenging sports like baseball, basketball, and (American) football. Those sports are alot harder to play.
Basically, it goes like this: Americans are never going to accept socccer no matter how much it is promoted. Just like Europeans are never going to accept American football no matter how much the NFL promites it over there. People prefer the sport that they have been playing for centuries and they have lots of tradition.

"europeans" accepted basketball and hockey, which are quite... entertaining sports ... theres a reason why baskeball and american football aint widely spread
when i think of it, both sports are actually "invented" by canadians...

lol that made me laugh.. proves you really dont know much on what you talk about. every sport broken down to its elements are simple, i'd say fully understanding football would be alot more challenging for your mind then you would ever think.

What is so hard about kicking a soccer ball?
Everyone knows the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a baseball.
-
^ its all about technique, accurrarcy, weight of the pass, etc mate, if you honestly consider it as just kicking a ball then you are a real moron.. enough said.
and lol @ hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports.. go home kid!

man you must be really retarded: Football is 10 X harder than baseball. Every fat guy can baseball, but without good physics you have no chance in professional football. Plus tactic and technique are so complexive.
Good thing is, everybody can play football and have fun, but ´to be good, it's more than just kickin' a ball
Baseball on the other hand is the most boring sport in the world besides golf, only rednecks like Real American love baseball.
-
i could careless who runs faster or has more precision kicking a fucking flat ball ..
Football >>>>>>Soccer
Basketball>>>>>>>soccer
Baseball>soccer

I'm sure you can't believe it because you yourself have a hard time admitting that you're from Poland... and if you don't bother to learn our language, you really should get the fuck out of my country.

Um, you know that pitchers in baseball throw the ball 95miles per hour. That is equvalent to 150 kilometers per hour for you Euros. Then imagine the pitcher changing speed to mess up your timing, and then making the ball curve, split, and slide.
It is common knowledge that hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports.
-
you really should get the fuck out of my country.
Who the fuck would ever go to Afghanistan?
