I'll keep this post spoiler-free. Overall, as a huge Simpsons fan (back-in-the-day, at least) I left the cinema satisfied. While it doesn't recapture the magic of Seasons One through Eight, there are plenty of chuckles and the whole thing is easily better than any new Simpsons episode from recent memory. One thing I enjoyed was just spotting the many characters that pop up: just about every Springfield citizen is in there somewhere! As is the case with The Simpsons, there are plenty of blink-and-you'll-miss-'em sight gags too.
A few pacing issues and select duff (no pun intended) gags make it a 7/10 to me. Fans of the "new-school" (Season Nine onwards) Simpsons will probably rate it a 9/10 - expect plenty of extreme, Homer-related idiocy.
Your thoughts?

season nine onwards = muthafuckin piece of shit

Saw the midnight showing last night. It started out really good, but slowed down in the middle. I'm sure anyone still interested in the show would really like the movie. Homer is as stupid as ever. The film could of used a little more Mr. Burns IMO

it was ok

this review is on point. i remember watching the premier Christmas special episode of The Simpsons when i was in kindergarten in december of '89... og heads remember catching new episodes on THURSDAYS at 8:00 on Fox and everyone had atleast one Bart Simpson t-shirt ;)
anyways, the quality of most shows declines after 6+ seasons (if they're given the chance to run that long)... The Simpsons had a strong run of atleast 10 seasons and I never missed an episode from seasons 1-14... i think i've seen all 400+ episodes (most of the newer ones in re-runs)... well, i went to see this movie out of respect and was pleased... i really can't add anything to what the quoted text says above... i think a lot of the og heads feel the same way... too bad nostalgia isn't a real place, i miss the '90s :-\
peace

i think it was funny as hell, well worth my money 8)
-
yeah i was feelin it. i liked the 'hard edge' parrts of it
barts "doodle"
homer flipping the people off
marge saying god damn, ect.
like i said as long as it falls in the same vein as the shouth park and beavis and butthead movies...i'll be satisfied. it did and i'm happy.
-
i didn't have high hopes for it, but it really surprised me...it's hilarious
-
it was alright. nothing special.
-
was dedrick tatum in it?
-
was dedrick tatum in it?
Yeah, you see him in there at some point.
-
Yea, pretty funny...I was surprised.
-
better then anything the simpsons have done since 99-2000. I was really surprised how good this movie turned out. And this is coming from a old school simpsons fan that hates everything they have done since 2000.

I watched it yesterday and I have to say it didnīt make me laugh out loud at all. Not trying to discourage people from seeing it but seriously, after all those years I just expected more. Years ago I died for new Simpsons episodes, even after all those years when I watch old Simpsons episodes I still laugh my ass off but the newer stuff just doesnīt do it for me. The movie, in my opinion, is just "all that newer stuff." Donīt get me wrong, I enjoyed watching it but in the cinema there wasn`t a single moment where people where laughing loud. I expected that to be honest. I gotta say I watched the german version of it, in a week or two Iīll watch the original version in english maybe some things get funnier but I doubt it. After all, itīs a 20+ minute show turned into a 100+ minute movie which is a hard thing to do and maybe thatīs also a reason why Iīm not too excited about it but like I said, it didnīt really blow my mind, but I understand that after all the hype for all those years itīs hard to deliver. Every Simpsons fan goes and watches it anyway.

I didnt really like this movie..there were a few funny parts but not many..I didnt really have high expectations for this movie but then reading some of the reviews it kinda had me anticipating it a little.
-
hillarious

i really didnt want to go see it but my cousins forced me to and i must say it was fucking funny.I stoped watching the simpsons about 4 years ago just didnt have time and when i say this movie its as if they never changed it was awsome.

What? My theatre was packed, and there were people bursting in laughter every 5 seconds it seemed...At the end, it got one of the hugest round of applauses I ever heard for a film...The people loved it.

I loved it, saw it last night. Love the show too still, grew up with that show.

First of all I'm a HUGE simpsons fan, I watch them since kindergarden and collect simpsons comics since I'm 8 years old. And I saw it on the 26th. GOD damn this movie suprised me a lot. It was so hilarious!!!! And I'm also not happy with the newer seasons, 1-10th are classics. But however the spider-pig thing alone is worth this movie!!!! Spider-PIG- Spider- PIG hahahahaahah
I have to go one more time to the cinema! I'd give it a 9.5/10 really
GO WATCH IT, it won't disappoint you

I don't know. I definitely liked the film - like i said, WAY better than any recent ep - but I've watched a few episodes from Seasons Four and Five lately and I'm pretty sure I got more belly-laughs in a classic 20 minute ep than I did in the whole film. I chuckled a lot throughout the movie, but wasn't exactly LMAO. I think I might enjoy it more on a second viewing, now that I can put all the hype aside and just enjoy it for what it is.
-
like NIk said the movie theater i saw it was PACKED, and people were laughing almost all of the time. there were points in the movie where i didn't know what they said on screen cuz there'd be too many people laughing.
-
Better than I thought it would be. I don't know why, but maggie having 2 or 3 different moments in the movie when she was a bad ass was killin me. I got 5 or 6 really good laughs out of this flick, which was more than I expected, so I was pleased overall. If you are a Simpsons fan, an absolute must see.

I knew since Homer mentioned that the people watching the movie were suckers that I'd like this movie.
Some how I was able to look past Homer riding a moterbike upside down on a dome that was suppose to be the size of a town.
It was an episode stretched into a movie, but here they made it work. I guess working on it for over a year can do that. The plot seemed to flow better (in the first 3/4 anyways) then anything I've seen since around the 12th season.
-
But however the spider-pig thing alone is worth this movie!!!! Spider-PIG- Spider- PIG hahahahaahah
Hehehe that is....and they play it 3 times during the movie too....The operatic version is funny as hell. Overall, on the movie it was funny....I mean really what do you expect for a show that's been on for damn near 20 years? There ain't a whole lotta ideas left! It was more like an extended episode, but it was good.
-
It was fucking Dyer. It had about 3 moments were I chuckled, not even laughed, just chuckled. The story was shit, and it just sent me to sleep, literally.
-
I liked it! There was a bit in the middle of the film where it kinda drifted off, but still a gud film!!!
Plus, the spider-pig bit woz hilarious!!!
-
Over here it came out today and I saw it at 4 in the afternoon already. We were kinda bored and didn't have high hopes for the movie, but it was surprisingly hilarious!
-
It was alright. Better than I thought.

Was cool.
It Was 100% Simpson's for the Fan's.
I still think this came out a couple years too late....
but still a great addition to the Simpsons catalog.

only just got round to seeing it, i thought it was ok but nothing amazing.
Where was Gill ?
I know the bad guys surname was "cargill" and gill was a car salesman in an earlier episode but was that suppose to link in with gill not been there ?
