PS3, Wii, and XBox 360 still can't catch up. :o

More than 68 million people played video games on a console last month, spending much of it on Sony Corp.'s older PlayStation 2, according to Nielsen research.
Seven years after its launch, Sony's PS2 was still the most-played console, accounting for 42 percent of video game use during the month. Microsoft's original Xbox took second place with 17 percent, followed by the Xbox 360 with 8 percent.
The numbers suggest that older machines remain popular despite November's high-profile debut of Nintendo Co.'s Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3, which had 4 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. Nintendo's GameCube ranked fourth with 5.8 percent.
Nielsen GamePlay Metrics also found that households that own the Nintendo Wii are more likely to earn more than $100,000 a year. And summer break has meant kids play video games later: In April, the Wii's peak usage hour was 5 p.m.; during the summer, it's at 8 p.m.
Separately, Sony said last week that it sold 710,000 PlayStation 3 consoles worldwide in the April-June quarter – just one-fifth of the 3.43 million Wii consoles that Nintendo said it sold in the same period, according to the New York Times News Service.

is it just because the ps2 has a much larger install base since its been out for 7 years? or how do they measure this?

Is the sky blue? Is Smoke Black? Come on man. They've sold over a hundred million systems compared to less than 10-12 million for the others they mention. They've sold 40 or 50 times the number of games for a PS2 then have even been released for the Wii or 360 yet. The PS2 was a good system, it'll be around a few more years.

lol yea thats what i was thinking, what is the point of even writing this article? obviously the ps2 will be the most played system because its been out for 7 years and more people own it then the other systems because so.

Think of how many more games are available for the ps2 then the Wii or the 360, and think about how much more affordable the games are. You can buy a used ps2 game for a dollar and you can't buy a wii or 360 game for less than 40 bucks or so. There's probably a billion ps2 games in existance, so of course more people are playing their ps2.

also, crazy as it sounds, I actually know cheap fucks who will wait years for the system to get rock bottom in price;
One guy I know paid $300, got a PS2, and a modded Xbox 1, controllers, and like 50 games.
A lot of people who couldn't afford PS2 for a long time are just getting into it now
