If you were a fan of the Boston Cetlics, would you have preferred to land that number 1 pick (Greg Oden), knowing that the Ray Allen/KG deals woulda' never went through, or would you prefer the current trio of Paul Pierce/KG/Ray Allen? To tell you the truth, I would much rather have a front-line of Oden/Jefferson for the future, to dominate the east for 10-15 years, as opposed to 2-3 years of possibly contending for a title with the big three...Both are appealing options, but if you really think about it, the lottery option would have been that much sweeter for Celtic fans. What do you say?...PeACe

if i was a Celtics fan, I probably would've gone with the trio trade.
the main reason is because the Celtics had been a team that pretty much nobody wanted to play for.
with having three big stars on one team, that reputation completely changes and becomes in option for future top FAs to look at.
also, while thinking of the future is good, Oden and Jefferson might've left or demanded trades if the team wasn't doing well / they weren't happy and wanted to play elsewhere. it's not a guarantee that would've happened, but it's also not a guarantee it wouldn't happen.
-
^^Damn...So you'd take KG and Ray Allen over Al Jefferson, Greg Oden, Gerald Green, Delonte West, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, draft picks, etc? :-X
-
wthe situation that Boston was in with the their reputation, possibly.
if Celtics would've somehow been able to guarantee that list u posted that the team would be built around that, and if the players would be patient to not only develop themselves as players but also been patient in winning, then definitely I would've taken that list because it would be dominating in the long-run.
-
I'd go with the current situation. Like Shaq said - you need veterans to win. Oden/Jefferson/Green/Pierce/Rondo would've been nice, but that roster is too inexperienced.

^^Exactly...And I'd say a frontline of Jefferson/Oden/Pierce to build around ALONE is much better than KG/Allen/Pierce.

Shaq wasn't a veteran when he came in the league...Pierce is a veteran. A nucleus of Oden/Jefferson/Pierce >>>>> KG/Allen/Pierce

The current situation is better for them ... instant contender for 2-3 years is still better than potential contender for 10 years... you never know what could happened in the future (Mo Dizzle post)... plus let me be doubtful about the supposed "already guaranteed dominance" of Oden for years to come
-
^^You think they're current contender for the title? :nawty:
Maybe to win the east, but they still got more to handle before they're title-worthy...
-

How do you know they wont bust? Celtics have had it bad for a long time now...they want to win now.
-
If you were a Boston Celtic Fan you want to win now, just like Lakers fans want to do. Fuck waiting for a bunch of young stars to HOPEFULLY pan out in the years to come, get some championships while you still can.
-
Funny to see so many people choose short fixes over actual dynasties....Greg Oden and Al Jefferson would dominate the east for at least a decade. And if they don't, both players alone have the value in them to obtain another superstar in exchange, along with Paul Pierce. Crazy, I didn't think anyone woulda' gone against the lottery option...
-

I meant to win the East ... they ain't gonna beat the West with such poor depth..
-
Well they didn't win the lottery so this is fucking stupid.
-
The Celtics arent winning a title with this current lineup anyways. So why not play for the future? I do kind of understand the pressure theyre under though. Theyve sucked for so long, its hard to convince fans to be even more patient and wait for the future.
-
NO WAY THEY ARE GOING TO WIN THE FINALS YOU SEEN THE TEAM THEY GOT BESIDES THOSE 3? ALL GARBAGE THEY GAVE UP WAY TOO MUCH TO GET GARNETT. WE'LL SEE HOW RONDO DOES THIS YEAR THO. THATS ABOUT THE ONLY OTHER PLAYER THAT TEAM GOT THAT HAS HOPE. THEY MIGHT TAKE THE DIVISION THO UNLESS THE KNICKS IMPROVE WHICH I KNOW THEY CAN.

I'd take the trio. Oden hasn't done one goddamn thing yet. I think he's way fuckin overhyped.
-
It's hard to say. The Rookies would be the better deal in the long run, but the Celtics have been sucking for too long and if I were a Boston fan i'd want to win soon.
-
the trio.
the celtics havn't won anything since the 80's and they're the leagues all time premier championship franchise. you gotta go big now and build on that reputation for the future. you don't put together a line up that just goes to the first and second rounds for the next 10 years. you have nothing to show for it. with this line up you're an immediate contender for a title. you run a higher possibility of walking away with something to show.
-
i would take the trio.. all 3 men are thirsty for a ring i think there determination alone will win them a title...
-
LMFAO...In essence, you guys are saying you'd trade:
Greg Oden, Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Delonte West, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, two 1st Round Draft Picks for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. :-X
Glad none of you are GMs.
-
what happened to having an opinion?
thing is NIK, the celtics wern't going anywhere. they didn't get the first pick, therefore this scenerio will never happen. Boston is automatically a contender for the title. they're already drawing interest from other players in the league, so those 'vacant' spots will be filled very quickly. like it or not NIK.....
Ainge>>>>>>>>>>>cup-check
-
Yea, other players in the league...Like Eddie House and Scot Polard. LMAO.

...reggie miller, antione walker, ect. still the fact of the matter remains NIK the celtics still ahve time to fill those gaps. and the DRAW to fill in those gaps.

No shit? Actually, now that you've mentioned them...
-
neither of them are bad players. but they'd be players you could count on behind the big three.
-
Sorry, but as of today, Antoine Walker is a bad player...And if you're gunna go for Reggie Miller, might as well give Charles Oakley a call as well.
-
antione walker is not that bad. he's a suitable role player behind your big three, he could step in and help peirce off the bench.
-
He also can kill your offense and can be a liability on D...

I actually agree with NIK about walker. This guy shoots some of the worst shots in the NBA. *watches antoine walker shoot a fade a way 3 with 21 seconds left on the shot clock*
-
whatever i'd rather have walker coming off the bench then whoever the hell else is coming off the bench for them.
-
walkers clearly a has been and i dont think a third seperate stint at the same team would go down to well and would be a step backward by boston. i personally think boston are doing the right thing. pierce has given his career to the c's and nows their chance to repay him with a ring by goin out and gettin a short term fix...hopefully short term success will provide a launching pad for longer term initiatives.
-
walker actually used to nail those crazy shots when he was with the celtics the first time
