Sevilla's Puerta dies in hospital
Spain international Antonio Puerta has died after suffering a heart attack in his club side Sevilla's 4-1 win against Getafe on Saturday.
Defender Puerta, 22, collapsed in the first-half and medics prevented him from swallowing his tongue.
But he collapsed again after going off and was given cardiac resuscitation before being taken to hospital.
He was placed in intensive care and doctors said on Tuesday his condition had deteriorated before his death.
Sevilla are due to play AEK Athens in the second leg of a third round Champions League qualifier on Tuesday but the match is now likely to be postponed.
Puerta collapsed after jogging back towards his own goal 35 minutes into the opening league game of the season at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday.
Team mates and medical staff rushed to his side and were seen preventing him from swallowing his tongue as he lost consciousness.
He was able to walk from the pitch but doctors said that he collapsed again in the changing rooms and had to be given cardiac resuscitation before being taken to the Virgen del Rocio hospital.
Condolences to all his friends and family. Crazy to think someone this young could die in such circumstances.

RIP
Tragic news, shocking that this could happen to a pro footballer at such a young age
-
Terrible, but apparently he has fainted twice before, but it was taken down as heat extausion, and not a life-threatening defect. I also read he had a child on the way.
RIP.

RIP to a young star.. from what ive heard he was meant to be a very promosing full back.. what i dont get is with all the technology and medical advancements in sports, you think they'red picked up on something to do with his heart.

They were saying that he had full medical tests when the previous 'fainting' incidents occured and they didn't find any heart defects at the time.

There was something wrong in the blood, according to the medics.
I hope it wasn't doping.
May god bless this young guy and have care of his child :'(
REST IN PEACE

Tonight in England's Carling Cup competition, two teams went in at half-time and a player has reportedly collapsed in the changing room. He left the ground conscious. The two managers agreed to abandon the game.
It's disgraceful how often this is occuring in Football.

Why didn't they just take him out the game?

I'd imagine as a mark of respect, another player who has collapsed in the matter of days. A 16 y/o trainee for another English team collapsed and died in training just last week.

A player for Leicester City (a division one team here in England) collapsed at half time last night. His heart stopped twice. The match was abandoned and the player is stable in hospital.

no, it doesn't. Shit happens, you can' t avoid that. If one outta 1000 players has a heart attack, it's destiny.
