Title: Beastie Boys
Post by: K.Dub on September 05, 2007, 03:31:46 PM
Eyyo, I've always wondered do/did any of y'all like/liked Beastie Boys?

It's just noise with some wack ass voices and rhymes to me.

Eh, it depends...

I remember the Beastie Boys when I was a kid, I was in second grade humming the melody of Paul Revere... SO I'm admittedly biased.

That said, That 1st Def Jam record and Pauls Boutique are hip hop classics to me.

Pauls Boutique even more. You'll never hear a record, like Boutique in a store again... some songs had 7 samples per song. The Dust Bros. were vicious with that whole record. It's one of my top 10 hip hop records.

I'm Lukewarm on many of the 90's releases... they had kinda gone back to thier roots in playing live insturments, and doing "rock" songs. But hey they started as a punk band.

Check Your Head was OK, But ill Communication and Hello Nasty are fucking tight.

The hip hop joints on Hello Nasty are still banging. They've been political for a while now, so there's a bit of conciousness in thier records.

I don't know, maybe because I grew up with them, but I'm pretty sure, I'll always cop the new Beastie Boys record.

Saw them in 1998 or 1999 at the Forum here in L.A. - Best live show I've ever seen, so much energy, one of the best crowd vibes I've ever felt in my life.

But I could see if you weren't old enough to appreciate them in thier heyday, they may not appeal to you.

I wasn't old enough to remember when the Beastie Boys first dropped, but since getting into hip hop I've bought a number of their records and enjoy them all to this day.

You ver download the Beastie Boys disography? AWesome b sides and those old bootleg records like Terminally Ill, etc.

I bought most of their albums, compilations and EP's. I always change my mind about what my favorite album is but I've been liking Check Your Head the most recently. I enjoy most of their shit but i can see why some people wouldn't be able to get into their later stuff. Stay away from their punk rock records though lol.

License To Ill is one of the classics... in my opinion it's up there with my top 5 80's rap albums.

Man that album is banging. I'd love for Def Jam to release all that unreleased stuff from that 84 - 88 Beastie Boys era.

I can't believe anybody woudl even question whether or not they were tight.  The Beastie Boys were the shit for like 10 straight years.  "License to Ill" and "Ill communication" are my favorites, but even shit like Intergalactic is just off the chart.  Anybody heard "Boomin' Granny" ?  lol
