Man I am bumping that Ice Cube in the movies cd and this track came on. Classic Cube. The beat by who else, Bud'da is sick, his storytelling raps are on point, you feel like you right there as he talks about being a gangbanger to being handicapped by a shooting. He got a quotable for the 2nd verse:
My house shoes get wet from the dew on the grass
Up early in the morning takin out the trash
Feelin like a loser alcohol abuser
Two youngsters roll up on a beach cruiser
One on the peddles the other on the handle bars (what)
Tryin be ghetto stars they said:
Are you from the westside is it so?
I said hell yea and who wanta to know (me)
In slow mo fo fo slugs face down in the mud
Puddle full of blood left for dead
The pain starts to spread now I cant feel my legs
I meet doctor who at king drew medical center
As I enter I see you
He said the bullet hit a nerve that was vital
I said I cant move my legs he said dont try to
Now this aint the end my friend but youll probably never walk again
I sit there motionless holdin this pain inside contemplating suicide
At night I jerk and jerk
But my dick dont work it dont even hurt (damn)
Now whod ever thought a nigga rude as ice cube
I be pissin through a tube fool Im a vet
Classic song, definitely one of my favorites post Bow Down, when most feel he started to fall off, but this along with others show he still got it. Maniac In The Brainiac is crazy too. But Ghetto Vet and Greed on that SLEPT ON War Disc are exceptional.
-
props man, one of my favorites from what I consider the 2nd part of his career after all the classic albums he dropped and post Bow Down like you stated, I used to bump this song all the time, and the hook on this is just so cold to go along with the lyrics and beat, classic track by the greatest westcoast rapper of all time
-
yeh i feel u ma nigga, i luv that track.matta of fact that whole album is fuckin dope. macks and short khops hook is crack.
-
Yeah I think this subject matter changed more than anything. He showed on the Crazy Toones mixtape that he still has it. I have been bumping that War Disc again and he had some lyrical heatrocks on that
Ghetto Vet
Greed
Dr. Frankenstein
Penitentiary
3 Strikes You In
Extradition
The Pecking Order
Well you get what I'm saying, but yeah I remember first hearing Ghetto Vet on Master P's I Got The Hook Up soundtrack, back then P had the the game on clack clack lock. Amazing song.
-
I just listened to that song while I was out. Gotta love that track. It's just real hardcore, a hard-hitting story and dope lyrics.
And the chorus is just hard: "Fool I'm a vet, you can bet, that I can dance under water and not get wet."

-
Ive always liked this track. Still bump it from time to time...

Cube has so many dope storytelling tracks but this is one of his best easily. Would've love to have seen a video for this.
-
Dope & classic without a doubt!! Cube can come really raw (when he wants to...)

This was the only real trace of 89 Cube on that album.
All them wheel chair homies must of played that tune with pride.
Aggresive beat that Cube 187's.
And Last Night I Couldn't Make It To The Bathroom
Feelin' Like A Two Year Old You Can't Get A Sip From The Brew I Hold

Greed was another crazy track on there also. Definitely not Cube at his best, but it was damn good though. But that Ghetto Vet made you feel like you were right there.

Brings me back to 98 dope track, dope lyrcis.
-
When I first heard this track back in like 98 or 99, I didn't really like it that well, but as I've gotten older its grown on me.
-
Classic track, one of my fav. tracks from "War" album. Other dope tracks were "Ask About Me", "Fuck Dying", "The Curse Of Money", "Dr. Frankenstein", "Extradition" & "The Peckin Order"...

People sleep on that War disc. And the production was top notch on there.

the war and peace cds are a classic to me, they have this movie feel going on for them

I was a little disappointed in the Peace disc because I remember Cube saying in a interview that the album would tackle some political issues and just be more of a politically charged album with his take on how to handle issues in America. I think with the delay of the album, he just ended up making more of a party, laid back record. Because it was supposed to drop the same year as the War disc.

yeah i rememebr that it ended up coming out like 2 and half years later
what a fuck up tho war and piece should of been a double

Yeah but at the time that was when people started doing more double discs after BIG and Pac so Cube wanted to do a 2 part album, just one released at the beginning of the year and the other towards the end of the year. Cool concept, but he just did not have the subject matter he said he wanted on the Peace disc.
-
Yeah but i remember War being released aruond novemnber... so how then it owuld of been end of the year- new year

Well it was supposed to drop earlier in the year that year (98) but then it got pushed back. I think it was originally for June then the Peace disc 6 months later. Even with it being pushed back he still wanted it to be a 6 month time frame inbetween and it ended up 2 1/2 years. ;D

Man...if there's one song that needs an appreciation its this. IMO this is one of Cube, and gangsta rap, is best tracks period, not only post-Bow Down. The chorus/hook is hard and Cube drops 3 raw classic verses. Every goddamm line off each verse is raw lyrically with amazing story telling.
-
classic track like you mentioned and greed is off the hook,i agree with everyone the war disc is underated as fuck 8)
-
the War Disc kinda reminds me of the West Coast Kuruption disc not the content or the rhymes or anything but just the fact that the CD pretty much is underrated and close to classic, where the Peace Disc other than a few very dope tracks is not as good, I still bump "Hello" of the Peace Disc

Yeah that album has a very dark mood to it. I'd say beats wise it one of his best, if not the best. Lyrically it is a little weaker than his earlier stuff but he still has dope lines throughout. I think it is better than LNCL.

Laugh Now Cry Later is pretty close but yeah too many tracks on that one, still far from wack maybe a 7/10 and Peace is maybe a 7.5/10

Oh no, LNCL is dope also. I just think War is a better piece of work. Now between Peace and LNCL that is a good debate.

I think Peace might be slightly better, LNCL is dope but too many tracks for me the problem I have with BCT by Snoop also , but definitely one of the top releases of '06

I gotta dissagree with you guys here, Ghetto Vet is better than any track off LNCL, and you can probably say the same for Hello on the Peace Disc being better than any track off LNCL. But imo Cube went back to his roots on LNCL and actually dropped some knowledge and stayed away from the Don Mega stuff that was all over War and Peace.
To me LNCL sounds like an older version of the guy who dropped AMW, DC, Predator, and Lethal Injection...maybe not on the same level, which is to expected, but you could draw the line between the rapper on LNCL and the rapper on Lethal Injection. But the War/Peace discs almost sound toooo different, its coming from a different personality, so imo LNCL is easily better than the Peace disc, and a notch above the War disc. Its all opinion though.
