Title: EMINEM lyricist of the year ???
Post by: RivieraIII on July 21, 2001, 02:27:06 PM: Here are the nominees for Lyricist of the year at the next Source Awards:
1- Eminem
2- Jay-Z
3- Scarface
4- Prodigy
5- Talib Kweli
Now, that's a TIGHT fuckin' choice to make but I believe Eminem should (and WILL) win (which would be a unique feat: back to back "lyricists rings" from The Source). According to the magazine, we could listen to one of those dudes accapella. In my opinion, it's really a battle between Em, Scarface and Talib Kweli for "rewind button" material (no dis to greats like P or Jigga) but this year Slim REALLY laced it when it came to sick wordplay (The Way I Am), storytelling ability (Stan) and whatever else. What y'all think??? And who do u think was slept on this past "Source" year?? To me Sticky Fingaz was...

Ive never cared for Eminem, and never will. To me, he's an very average lyricist and I cringe when i hear someone say he's made a classic album.

Mos definitely. Talib won't stand a chance but at least Scarface should win it. His shit is real.

It's about who HAS BEEN the most influential MC this past year, whose lyrics had the more influence or respect or controversy or stir or acclaim or quotes in the past 12 months (from April 2000 with Dre, Snoop, Cube on the cover to March 2001 with Ja Rule on the cover; that's in the new special collector Source Hip Hop Award magazine that came out three days ago). In that sense, although Scarface and Talib Kweli are heavy contenders, Eminem will win, coz it does take into account MMLP lyrics. And HONESTLY, who really had EVERYBODY talkin' LYRICS these past 12 months, from CNN journalists all the way to headz in the streetz (I live in Brooklyn, NY so can't nobody tell me shit about the streetz)???? Think HARD. There's only ONE option...
