Co-sign! Bishop shud Def be there, WTF is Lil'Boosie there ???
Altho i think ur bein harsh on Crooked, dudes deserves his shine....
-
Crooked I is great no doubt but the title is "leaders of the new school". Dude been in the game since 97.
-
Who are those dudes?
I only recognize Crooked and Joell Ortiz..
And even tho it's good for Crooked to be on the cover, he's faaaar right on a fold-out-cover, so peeps in the stores wont see him
-
Well I'll be damned! Crooked on the XXL cover. That came out of nowhere... Now all he needs to do is drop B.O.S.S. and have some promo to go along with it and he'll be allright 8)

I hear you. Bishop or Ya Boy would've been nice too, but you can't have it all. Let's be glad that they put Crooked in the spotlight. The man has paid his dues in this industry, wouldn't you agree? Plus, the man got talent as well, there's no denying that. And just because he's slightly older than the rest of those guys doesn't mean he can't be one of the leaders of the new school.
Props to XXL for this 8)

Yeah but he has still yet to blow even though he's been in the game for a while, besides this is Crooked "10 years and not 1 album dropped" I we're talking about so IMO he deserves a spot there...
-

Your rite but to anyone who doesnt follow Westcoast music, he's rather unknown, with the exception of the HipHop weeklys, so he's new to many...
Who are those dudes?
Saigon, Plies, Richboy, Papoose, Crooked I, Lil Boosie, Lupe fiasco, Gorilla Zoe, Joell Ortiz, Young Dro
I don't get how the likes of Lil'Boosie, Gorilla Zoe (what the fuck is that?) can be on the cover instead of the likes of Bishop, Ya Boy, Termanology, Skyzoo etc etc

Thanks for the info man..
Gorilla Zoe has replaced Young Jeezy in Boyz N Da Hood..

I dunno about that. no matter who sees the cover, everyone goin recognize the WESTSIDE. props to Crooked for throwin it up on the cover, thats the first thing I saw, it stand out.
Good thing it wasn't a rumor. now where is that album lol 8)
-
Saigon, Plies, Richboy, Papoose, Crooked I, Lil Boosie, Lupe fiasco, Gorilla Zoe, Joell Ortiz, Young Dro
saigon - sounds good from what i've heard
plies - this dude is SICK!! he gonna blow the fuck up in a few years, ya'll watch
rich boy - wack
papoose - boring IMO
crooked i - best in the game right now
boosie - wack
lupe - not my style, but i see why ppl like him
gorilla zoe - wack
ortiz - dope
dro - dope

So, dudes that actually pick up the magazine are going to see him...
Much props to Crooked I, he's really been on the grind this past year and I'm happy to see him finally getting the recognition he deserves!
-
think what you want... and call me a hater, but i think the title of this feature could easily have been changed from "leaders of the new school" to "cats that will probably never blow up (except for a couple of them)"
Saigon - self explanatory. nigga got Just Blaze behind him, and he still aint done shit yet.
Papoose - Busta and them be hypin him up. I aint see nothing materialize.
Gorrila zoe - wack (bout to get blackballed just by having that name)
boosie - wack
Crooked I - self explanatory, hes good though, im not denying that.
Rich Boy - failed to follow up with a good enough single after "Throw Them D's" . great single, but pretty lackluster album, totally carried by Polow's production. dont really see him coming around for a 2nd smash album or anything.
Joell Ortiz - he's cool, but he'll prob be another hittman #3 for Aftermath, and i dont really his style as ever transcending New York's scene.
Lupe - definitely has had the most success hype surrounding him..he's good, i see him on a whole another playing field than these other guys.
Young Dro - havent heard much from him either, and some of his guest appearances are tight, but i dont think he can carry a whole album on his back.
Plies - havent really heard much from him, but from what ive read and heard, he sounds promising.
-
Props 2 Crook 4 gettin on the cover! Props 2 XXL 4 puttin on there! Hes been grindin real hard lately, lets hope he can finally get BOSS out there n finally get heard by every1!
-
Crooked I is great no doubt but the title is "leaders of the new school". Dude been in the game since 97.
since 97 and aint done shit....
-
The hate in this thread is incredible... I can't believe people are hating on dude for working hard and being on the grind doing it all on his own.
-

Dro's album was pretty good, u should check it out...his wordplay is extremely clever...great metaphors as well...he actually sold some decent numbers...seems pretty hard for a complete newcomer in hiphop to be selling right now, and dro sold about 400,000, that's damn good
Plies is the shit man, i'm really feeling dude right now (no homo)...don't think most of y'all would like him though...right now, he's a broke man's T.I.
his style to me resembles that of Tip's in around 2003...that's why im saying this dude gonna blow up in a few years
-
every one is hating on papoose but i think he's dope but to each of his own,it's all good 8)
-

-

What hate? Nobody is dening Crooked I's talent, but to label him "new school" is just laughable. They are insane for leaving out Bishop Lamont.

Yea Runnin my momma crazy is insane, he said it'll be his 3rd single, lets just hope the vids better than the vid for 100 years which was .....
-
Not to take anything away from these dudes (although Boosie and Gorilla Zoe I've heard nothing about before this), but Bishop should've definately been on there, with a grouping like this. Ya Boy also has more of a right in my opinion to be there than either Boosie or Gorilla Zoe, but I guess his hype hasn't traversed that far yet, I don't know (then again, Ya Boy's hype has reached me and neither Boosie's or Zoe's has not).
But Bishop Lamont should've been on that cover with those dudes, no fuckin' doubt. He had a dope ass mixtape (or street album, however you wanna call it) with ****** Noize and he's on that hot seat that is "the next dude Dr. Dre is putting out".
Granted, Ortiz is on that Dre list too and he put out Bodega Chronicles, so maybe they just picked one dude out of the Aftermath camp 'cause of his album, but as I see it he's only next in line after Bishop. (Plus Ortiz is out of NY, so maybe the general east coast bias of rap mags is partly to blame too.)
And about the Crooked I spot - sure he's been in the game for a long time now, but only now is he really on the come up big time. Those hip-hop weeklies really have given him attention. Before it was just the west coast who was hyped about him. And the fact still is he hasn't put out an album. So I'm not really tripping off the fact that Crooked's on there labeled as "new school". He fits in my opinion.
Other than that - it's a cool cover. Hopefully the article is good and interesting and covers each artist deeply enough. This might be the first rap mag I've picked up in years if the cover story's good. Shitty thing about is that it won't be out here for a long ass time though.
Shit, Bishop should've really been on there.
-

100 years is just a internet video, not even the 2nd single...that song is crazy 2, really good, gotta use the word "cracker" less though LOL...the 2nd single is hypnotized, the vid is online already...bad choice IMO
-
Smh at old ass Crooked I, if anyone from the westcoast deserve a spot in there, its Bishop or Ya Boy.
lol bishop is on fuckin aftermath he will be on the cover alone because he fuckes with dre, so why are you mad??
i agree with that ya boy should be on the cover but the other bitchass like richboy, plies and lil bossie sould change NOT CROOKED !!!!
cause who is droppin every week a track???

Exactly. Fuck, I didnt even notice Joel is on it. No disrespect to him but Bishops buzz is 10 times bigger.
-
After all the HATE...LMAO
I can't wait until I see the Doubter's swinging off of
Dre's & Crooked Nut's once they drop their album's.
8)

Prop's to Crooked.
It's going down this year.

if u ask me, it's the same audience...he should dropped a different track
-

However, you have to remember that Crook is new to the general public and the mainstream... It doesn't matter how long he was underground, he's just about to make his major surfacing now.

Thats good for Crooked I, I just wish Ya Boy could've been on there too. And too bad Crooked I is gonna be on the half folded inside the magazine.
-

I see ya'll tripping motherfucking haterz.
This is why the West gets no love in the mainstream, cause their own coast won't even support them... the hate is disgusting.
-
Right, right...
Rome wasn't built in a day. It takes time to establish yourself as an artist in the mainstream. Shit, none of these cats are new - who knows how long they've been rapping? Every one of those dudes has put in work for 5-10 years now (if not more), just to get where they are now.
