Barry was great but Jim Brown just can't be beat in my eyes. Started as MVP (sort of), ended as MVP. When Jim Brown retired he was the number 1 back in every category. Who knows what this guys numbers could have been if he played 16 game seasons for 14 years like Emmit did? I don't even want to think about it. Sanders has more of a lot of things than Brown in terms of numbers but Sanders had like 700 more touches and Emmit had 2000 more touches. Jim Brown for the whole damn thing. If he played 5 more seasons and averaged out he'd be the leading rusher of all time, and just shy of Jerry Rice for yards from scrimmage. And if the 26 games were added he'd have blown everyone out of the water.

Barry was the greatest runner ever, without a doubt. He had absolutely NO help for a majority of his career. The Lions were never contenders, never very solid defensively, and never really a great offense....JUST him. Can you imagine what kind of yards he would have racked up if he would have been lucky enough to get the kind of gaping holes that Emmitt would get. Not to mention, with lions always sucking....they were playing from behind a LOT. Typically you pass the ball more when you are losing a game. So its not like he was able to pad his stats very often by getting a ton of touches during a blowout.

c'mon barry

vote bitches

Oh c'mon. Has anyone even watched Brown play? The guy was everything you wanted in a player. Emmit has no business in the finals. I'm not even voting. Jim Brown is the greatest player to ever step on a football field and no one else comes close.

Real spit. I am not even going to vote because most people here have no clue. Jim Brown = G.O.A.T.
Emmit is not a top 5 back ever, barely top 10 if that.

people complaining... this is what you need to do. I agree, Jim Brown=GOAT, but at the sametime no one made any case and that's hard when Barry's highlights are still fresh in people's head.

The reason i put Barry ahead of Brown....and any other back in history to be honest is because his success was almost solely in his hands. Browns running style, similar to Emmitt's was dependant on good blocking. Of course, Brown>>>>>>>>Emmitt. But Barry, game in and game out would make it happen all on his own.

This myth always bothered me. People act like Barry could run 100 yard games with a bunch of high school kids playing o-line. Detroit was a pretty decent team some years and pretty close to decent other years. They lost close games in their losing years. And they were a running team. Barry had seasons of over 300 carries 7 times. Brown had 1 season over 300 carries and it was 305 carries. Barry also had probowl offensive lineman Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover for most of his career at Detroit. Yeah Milt Plum and Frank Ryan were better QBs than what Detroit had. No argument there. Cleveland was a better team but Jim Brown ran like a monster and broke off tackles like a mad man. He wasn't some hole runner that fell apart after that. Barry used his quick steps to move away from the tackle, Brown used his power to break through and shake them. Barry was amazing no doubt. I'd jusr rather have Brown in the end.

Actually it was 12 game season for a lot of those years. I was trying to point out that if Brown had the number of carries Sanders got he'd have more yards than Barry. You think Cleveland would have been all that great with out Brown. The Lions won more games the year after Barry left than they did in his last year. The Browns won the championship in Jim's last year and the next year they didn't make the playoffs. This is the NFL 1 player means nothing if you have the system and the right game plan.
