NEWPORT BEACH – A man was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of residential burglary of celebrity Nicholas Cage's bayfront Newport Beach home.
The man - identified by police as Robert Dennis Furo of San Pedro – was wearing nothing but one of the movie star's leather jackets, said Newport Beach police spokesman Lt. Craig Fox.
Cage was upstairs with his wife and child, and reported seeing the man standing at the door of a bathroom.
"He was standing there naked – except for the leather jacket," Fox said.
A guard in a gated community along Bayshore Drive said Cage reported an unknown male subject found inside his home about 1:30 a.m.
"Mr. Cage escorted him out of the house without incident," Fox said. "He did not resist Mr. Cage, nor did he resist the officers."
Furo, 45, had no weapon on him. The Newport Beach police were on the scene within a few minutes, he said.
Furo was booked at the Newport Beach jail, and later taken to Orange County Jail. He was arraigned on charges of first-degree residential burglary and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Fox said it was unclear whether the suspect knew the home belonged to the movie star, who has appeared in films such as "Face/Off," "Matchstick Men," and more recently "Ghost Rider."
"It's hard to tell. He may have known that he lived there. Mr. Cage had never seen this person before," Fox said.

A continuing investigation may shed more light into the motivation behind the alleged intrusion of a naked man into the Newport Beach home of actor Nicolas Cage, authorities said today.
Cage woke up about 1 a.m. Monday to find Robert Dennis Furo Jr., 45, in his home, wearing one of his leather jackets but nothing else, said Newport Beach police Lt. Craig Fox.
Sweat pants belonging to the San Pedro resident were found in his car, which was located by police, but there was no sign of other clothes strewn about, Fox said.
Furo pleaded not guilty yesterday to a first-degree burglary charge and remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail, an amount doubled by the judge at the request of prosecutors, said Farrah Emami of the Orange County District Attorney's Office.
Furo took off the jacket before Cage escorted him outside his waterfront Bay Shores home, off Pacific Coast Highway, where actor John Wayne once lived, and the intruder was arrested.
The investigation continues into several unanswered questions, such Furo's motivation, whether he specifically chose Cage's home and "what was his awareness level," Fox said.
Any new information will be turned over to prosecutors, he said.
Emami said that despite the unusual circumstances surrounding the intrusion, the District Attorney's Office filed the appropriate charge based on information it had at the time.
"This obviously is in the very beginning stages," Emami said, adding that any new evidence will be reviewed to determine if other charges are applicable.
Fox said there was no sign of a break-in, and that the door apparently was unlocked and may have been left that way inadvertently. He said there was no activation of a security system.
The jacket came from a closet in the house. The actor never told police what woke him, but there was no indication the man had touched Cage, Fox said.
"I guess the frightening part was how long (Furo) was in the house," he said.
The actor's wife and young son were home at the time, according to police.
Furo was ordered back to court on Oct. 10 for a pretrial hearing.
