Decided to try my hand at giving my 2 cents on some artist's discographies. I will start with Daz, who has ALOT of albums but I am only going to focus on the solo ones. Feel free to drop comments.
Daz Dillinger - Retaliation, Revenge And Getback: Does not get much better than this one. More of a compilation but Daz did appear on each track. Man too many favorites to name. Our Daily Bread- one of the dopest Dogg Pound cuts IMO. Kurupt was :o on this album. I like how Daz got so many west coast heavyweights on 1 album. The beats are insane on this, one of his best if not the best. Daz's beatmaking at it's finest solo wise.
Daz Dillinger - R.A.W.: If RR&GB is not his best to most because of all the guests, this one solo wise is probably his finest. Really Daz at his best indie wise. The quality of the beats and the rhymes was really top notch. Street Gangs, One Nine 99, Who's Knockin At My Door, RAW, It'z All About The Money, My System. This album is PERFECT in a system. Lyrically Daz's flow is alot more forceful on this then the first one. Super Cuz was classic on here.
Daz Dillinger - This is the Life I Lead: If you like the production on D&YG, you will probably be a fan of this one. Lyrically Daz slipped a bit from RAW, but the co production from Mike Dean is the real highlight. The title track, Keep It Gangsta, and a few other tracks were bangin.
Daz Dillinger - DPGC: U Know What Im Throwin' Up: This album gets alot of heat for all the Snoop interludes, but I actually liked them. We only had to wait 4 or 5 years since the last time they worked together. This was the first album were Daz had no role in the production of the album beatwise. Soopafly did some of his best beats for this album along with Fred Wreck, Meech, Quaze and Shon Don. Lyrically Daz recycled lyrics WAY too much. That and the Kurupt disses wore on my nerves. Snoop absolutely MURDERED his guest appearances. But the highlight was definitely Soopa's beats. I'll Beatcho Ass, the remix, I Got That Fire, Nuthin But A Gangsta Party 2, Dat Gangsta Shit and a few more were bangers.
Daz Dillinger - I got Love in these Streets: Just basically a collection of unreleased tracks. I really could not get into this one
Daz Dillinger - Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta LP: This album a always thought it was and still is slept on. Daz sounded like he took his time on this album, his flow was on point from start to finish. Beats were dope, I like the Clinton samples and the heavy g-funk influences. One of my personal favorites from him and NO guest rappers. My Mama Said he KILLED that song. Same with Tha Dogg Pound Gangsta.
Daz Dillinger - Gangsta Crunk: Weak attempt by Daz to duplicate the Crunk sound. This album was a mess IMO.
Daz Dillinger - So So Gangsta: I really feel like Daz is one of the dopest producers depending on the studio. This sound wise is probably the closest Daz came to the 1st one. The beats were knockin throughout this album. JD and Daz made a good team, and No I.D., Scott Storch also dropped gems. Money On My Mind gets CONSTANT play from me along with Strizap, Rat-A-Tat-Tat, Thang On My Hip, Weekend. The cuts that also did not make the album were nice also. If they were added, I would probably score it a little higher.
Daz- Gangsta Party: Beats were a little weak on some but I like the guest appearances on this album. It had the feel of the first album with all of the west coast artists and the Redman, Joe Budden and Jagged Edge appearances were nice. Getting Money is the shit. Kurupt, 40 and Daz made a nice song to cruise to. One of those MANY side projects Daz does, but it is decent.
So for me to rank them I would say
RR&GB
RAW
TDPGLP
SSG
DPGCYKWITU
TITLIL
GP
IGLITS
GC
Daz lyrically really suffers at times from recyling his lyrics. At times his rhymes just sound thrown together. That is probably due to him putting so much material out. But when he is focused he brings nothing but fire. It's good to see him producing more now on projects. Gangsta Party looks like it might be promising also. Overall not a bad catalog.
Up next, Cypress Hill and Xzibit

Yeah I am almost tempted to do the same but at least Daz did appear on each track and I just thought he was a little bit better lyrically on his first. But RAW is dope as fuck and I like how he did it indie and the hunger he was spitting with on each track.

props bro + 1

Well,I agree with most of it. I donīt have Gangster crunk and have never heard it,not sure if I want to after your review.
Iīm not a big Daz (solo) fan,but I do check for him. He can come with heat,so I ainīt writting him off.
Thereīs only three Daz records I give a regular spin, the rest well......
Daz Dillinger - Retaliation, Revenge And Getback
Daz Dillinger - R.A.W
Daz Dillinger - DPGC: U Know What Im Throwin' Up
So whereīs Tanji? You and D-Nice is the convo tag team of Dubcc.
He is the only one missing. ;D Yeah Daz is very hit and miss for me, although I thought he had some nice lyrics on the last 2 DP albums, solowise lately he is starting to get better other than that Gangsta Crunk mess.
-
i would take R.A.W. over RR&GB
and outside of that i agree mainly.
SSG was not bad, there was some heat, i agree

I would only pick RAW over his first one due to the fact it is more of just Daz on it. I did not think Lyrically he was better on one more than the other. I actually thought he was on point on the first, just alot of guests. That is why I like Dogg Pound Gangsta LP alot because it is all Daz, no guests at all other than Nate Dogg on 1 hook.
-
i love RRGB no doubt, but there's nothing i get from it that i don't get from dogg food.
RAW scratches a completely different itch and I feel it's a better exposition of daz's RAW talent than any other of his works

Yeah a different vibe on RAW. More hard hitting gangsta shit on that. Daz showed how diverse he was on beats on the 1st one, but the 2nd was hard hitting from start to finish. Our Daily Bread from his 1st one is one of my favorite non album DPG cuts. Kurupt's guest appearances on the first one are perfect.
-
yeah i agree with that, Kurupt comes ridiculous on RRGB
-T

Yeah the other highlight of that album for me. The only major west coast artist he was missing was maybe Cube and 40 Water.
-
agree with everything that has been said especially the Kurupt part, was listening to Doggfather on the way to work this morning and I actually think dude was getting better to a point where '96-'97 Kurupt was actually tighter than '92-'95, I mean he murdered every verse on that album
-

lyrically he got tighter 96-97 but his delivery had already lost some of his edge.
even on the doggystyle songs, outside of for all my niggaz and bitches, he does not come as hard as he does on the chronic era stuff like lyrical gangbang, stranded on death row, and puffin on blunts drankin tanqueray
BUT some songs his laid back flow was better for like the doggfather stuff/RRGB/bitches ain't shit/doggy dogg world

yeah your right about his delivery he kinda switched to that laid back flow for most of Dogg Food as well, I think on The Chronic he just was making a name for himself and he came out so raw with his delivery and made everybody take notice on the songs you mentioned
-
I will update the discography with a overview of Gangsta Party later on.
-
man Kurupt's delivery has always been tight to me its his lyrics that fell the fuck off for instance delivery is tight on Streetz Iz A Mutha and Space Boogie but his lyrics is on some freestyle shit "I'm like fuck a bitch and fuck you too" he alwyas finishes verses with nigga or muthafucka shit gets fuckn annoying at times even though those albums are dope I think the only time he put together his lyrics and delivery was Trylogy where he just blacked the fuck out 8)

Trylogy was heat but it was a freestyle as well just one long big verse but he killed it perfectly lyrics, flow, delivery he was on beat the whole song which is not always the case but he has done tracks which are as dope for instance Game which has sick wordplay and has 3 long verses, there's 2 songs right there after he left Death Row which are probably as dope as anything he'd done previously
-
trylogyy and game are as dope as post 95 west coast gangsta rap gets but i don't think they fuck with any of his work on the chronic/doggystyle

yeah but as far as solo tracks I think those 2 are as dope as he's done, now I would probably put either Started which was on Last of Tha Pound and also Loc'd Out Hood from Gang Related above them

agree 100%, Roscoe, Yuk, Budden, Redman and Spice1 all brought heat on this album even Daz spit some nice rhymes at times, nice album

props nice review i wuld just switch raw and rrg....wut songs didnt make so so gangsta

The album ainīt bad,but it kind of go by my ear, doesnīt really move me in any way.
The only track that caught my ear was the track with Kurupt and E-40.
But it was a cool idea to let a "outside" producer taking care of the WHOLE project.
A idea that maybe some other cats should pick up too?
-
Daz first 2 albums are dope but after that I don't know its like he's recycling his verses and beats all the time maybe he ran out of shit to talk about LOL
-
i would take R.A.W. over RR&GB
What are ur favorite songs on R.A.W.? I wouldn't take it over RR&GB though.

I like RAW better than RRGB, but I guess that's just me

Nah it isn't just you. RAW is a better solo album. RR&GB I liked the setup of how Daz rapped and did beats with some of the west finest. And lyrically I thought he was at the top of his game on that album.
-
yeah RRGB just feels like dogg food II with some more focus on daz

I can appreciate RAW more because like I said in my post it was all Daz. He was indie, slanging it out of the trunk of his car, hustling. Definitely more bass influenced and hard hitting then his first one and less melodic but definitely more street. I think both of them are personal classic for me.
-
hm, i guess it is bassy but i felt like it wasn't very bass centric per se. almost all of the production on that record has some GREAT melodies going in and out of every track.
who's knoccn at my door and on tha grind and others have layered funky, even jazzy production and melodies. even simple beats like 'whatchu talkin bout' have great catchy melodies.
hell even, my system has the funky work throughout it.
damn, i need to bang that record sometime soon.

Yeah you have a good point there. I am looking for it now as we speak. ;D
Knockin At My Door was my joint off that album. Nice piano keys and rumbling bassline.
UPDATE: JUST FOUND IT! ;D Man this brings back some good memories. Daz kinda was getting back to more melodic production on Dogg Chit but I would like to see him work with Soopa and Fred Wreck and Kurupt and get locked up in the lab and create a Dogg Pound album with some beats like this.
-
yeah this album is really solid and fresh sounding always.
-T
-
When Ya Least Expected is dope as fuck! I know that sounds like I just discovered it but I never really sat down and listened to this track too much. 90% of the time I bumped this in my car when I had 15's in it so lyrics were not at a high priority. LOL!
-
all the Kurupt tracks on that record blow me away
we didn't realize how good we had it 99/00

Right when you said that On Tha Grind comes on. ;D Yeah I like the indie stuff they do together. It may not match the lyrical strength of most of their Death Row stuff but the chemistry and the back and forth cadence is flawless. Shit Happens was a good example of that. And after all this time they still have it.
