Aight, so for history class im planning to do a paper something along the lines of Hip Hop being the voice of the black community, and in turn its culture/music's social/political impact on the US since it really kick up like 30 years ago.
I was wondering if anyone knows/has any online resources- interviews, videos, etc. that could be of help to a project like this?
also, does anybody know of any legit books out there on this type of subject?
anythings much appreciated
if anyone has any ideas for a better topic along those lines, id love any suggestions too.
thanks, peace.

I really wouldn't know besides common sense type stuff (wikipedia / google)
-
word, thats where i guess im startin
-
I'm maybe going to make a paper on the hip hop culture's influence on the society "now and then" and compare them..
-
thats a straight topic. do you have any good resources (interviews etc.) that support that kind of thing?

I haven't done any researches yet.. That's why I haven't choosed it yet.. I don't know if it's a big enough topic for the exercise and if it's possible to get enough information. I'm thinking about extending it to compare different music cultures influences on the society, that would solve the "not big enough" problem..

did a paper along these lines, all you gotta do is just ref all the song lyrics
if youre talking about voice of black community ref: public enemy lyrics, and maybe the whole black community social issues with police through NWA, Ice Cube, Toddy Tee - Batteram, Ice T - Cop Killer...
i remember just referencing a bunch of tracks off Amerikaz Most Wanted, and just copying the lyrics and analyzing them.. i think once upon a time in the projects, endangered species.. theres that one line that says black youth are becoming an endangered speciies.. and then NWA of course fuck the police, and all that.. Toddy Tee - Batteram, explain the whole gang/drug problem in LA during that time period, and how the police were using these huge batteram vehicles and just plowin down houses.. and then Ice T - Cop killer, how the police brutality was just so prominent..
-
Yeah, ofcourse there is tons of information like that in lyrics.. thanks

Try some Omega or Picarta searches on hiphop culture political influence or something like that. Don't have access to it right now, but I'd help you tomorrow if you're still in need.

Nice.. can you post links for the sites?

talk about gun crime and hip hop. How rappers have been slade due to gun crime and how their lyrics express the use of guns and weapons. You can relate it to many murders of rappers/normal people. Then you could argue it and say that regardless of rap music shooting have and will maybe always occur.

That's why I said I'd help 'em :) What you said is true though, although I believe just about every college and univerity provides its students with access to such (similar) facilities. Picarta is a widely known example.

haha, wat een pauperwerkstuk.

Wel he?
