My shit sounds like metal grinding against crocodile teeth...I've been abusing the shit out of my brakes. I know how to install brakes, so does anyone know where I can get some decent brake pads? And does anyone know how long it takes until the damage is so bad that it needs more than just pads? Because I've been driving on bad brakes for probably over a month now. Now it sounds really terrible...Been laggin' on the repairage, but I really need it badly now. Where can I get good pads?
-
They are called brakes...and if you have worn out your brake pads too long ago you could have damaged your rotors. You can get brake pads at any auto store...kragen always will match the price of any competitor plus take an additional 5% off.
-
^^My bad...yea, brakes...how easy is it to damage the rotors? I mean, the way my shit sounds, I wouldn't be surprised if that already happened...Is that extremely expensive to replace?
-
And also, about how much should the pads cost on their own? I know to get my brakes done, it would be around 250-300 bux...but how much do they usually sell just the pads for?
-
damn man that sucks i remember when i had to replace my brakes. sounded awful I got onto of that asap.
-
the cheapest brakes are like 30 bucks which are the ones i always get. ceramic brakes (lifetime) are like 60 bucks, which i dont recommend. all ceramic brakes do is eat up your rotor. so you would end up replacing the rotors instead of the brakes. but rotors arent that hard to replace anyway. prices vary, you can pay up to 30 bucks for each rotor, or you can find them for cheaper, maybe 20 for both. depends where you go.
-
lol, $300 to get your brake pads replaced? Brake pads cost between $30 and $50 depending on whether whether u get lifetime pads, or a limited mileage warranty. You can't tell if your rotors are damaged by the sound you hear, but it could be a clue...you have to look at them. You can either have them resurfaced or buy new ones.

I'm not talking about just buying the pads, I'm talking about getting them done...this dude by my work was tryna give me a "special neighbor deal" at $250 to get them replaced. That's why I wanted to just buy the pads and replace them myself. Thanks for the info...PeACe
-
I know you are talking about getting them done, $250 is ridiculous...changing brake pads is easy
-
Also...has anyone heard about the organic pads? supposedly, they don't make a noise, even after they're worn down. and they last much longer...anybody have a clue what those organic pads are all about?
-

Yea, that's what I was saying, I knew it was a rip... but then about 3 different people told me it was in the same price range...one of my homies even had his fucking 1999 Honda Civic done for $250. :-X
-
why the hell would you want brake pads that don't make a noise? The purpose of the noise is to let you know that your pads are worn down and they soon need to be replaced.
-
That's what I told my friend who told me about them...LOL
-
sounds like u may need new rotors also
-
250 bucks for brakes? what kind of car do you got? that's how much MINE cost but that's because i get the high end shit
if you got some little car like a honda or something it should be like 75-100 TOPS
-

My shit is expensive to fix, though. I got a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE with abs brakes...the parts to my car are way more expensive than "a honda or something".
-
this shit makes me feel bad
this just happened to me and i should have warned you
my shit is a 2001 prizm and it was 400 bucks to fix the rotors and brakes and shit, like a little over 400 if i recall correctly
LMAO though homey, you do drive very aggressively, very conditioned by L.A. not hating, it's kinda darwinistic. if you didn't drive like that, you wouldn't get anywhere very quickly in that area. that's why it takes me longer when driving places. i take few risks in the car. i know my limits.

Yea...LOL. I like how I drive though. 8)
-
jesus christ, you guys are getting ripped off drastically...it doesn't matter how high end your car is...brake pads, are brake pads, and rotors are rotors...its some of the simpleists parts on a car, and probably the most universal parts of all cars. and anyways, u don't get screwed on parts by a mechanic, you get screwed on labor...$400? Lol, that is like 4 hours worth of work paying a manufacturers prices...changing breaks should take less than an hour if you are a professional.
-
The only time it should cost $250-$300 to change breaks is if you fucked up your rotors. Then you have to get new pads and rotors and plus labor. Unless you know how to do it yourself then of course its cheaper. NIK I have a question. This bad noise you hear, does it happen when your car finally slows down to about 5-10 mph then you hear the real bad noise like metal on metal. If thats the case your rotors are shot its happened to me twice on my old car.

i learned how to burn out on my bike today

what? brakes? my bmw dealership replaces my brakes for another 9 years for free ;D
-
$250 for brakes? I would never pay that shit in my life. I just got brakes for $20 at Napa and put them on myself in an hour. You might need a special wrench for it, but you can get that at any parts store.
If you want to save yourself tons of money on your car, get a Chilton book. It'll tell you exactly how to replace pretty much everything on your ride with pictures and you don't need experience at all.
-
Thats bad if its hitting the metal already. Try not to even drive anymore unless you really have to. But word 250 is a grip.
My big ass truck is only like 150.
-
get it done by a professional
fuck getting dirty and not having that shit done right
it dont matter how u do it, if it aint done by a pro its a risk
-
i never changed my breaks on my car, only on my truck. I use the compression of the engine to slow down my speed most of the time so it doesn't use the pads, I know you can turn them over after some times though and it's still all good

Decent price for brake replace of that car would be about 100 to 150.

Yea...The metal on metal happens when I'm hitting the breaks...But there's actually a heavy, spinning noise going on all throughout the drive, which sounds sorta like somethings dragging on the asphalt. It gets heavier when I'm slowing down...Sounds really bad, but hopefully it's not too damn expensive, like Tanjint's shit was...PeACe

dude, that shit happened to me too.
it was some o2 sensor muffler related shit and that was a whole separate thing from the rotors brakes
if it's just the rotors brakes prepare to spend 400, if it's the 02 sensor/muffler shit (spinning noise, something dragging sound..) that's another 400
it's probably just one of the two.
but i had to get both fixed recrently
but it sounds hella bad as you slow down and shit? sounds like the rotors. get that shit fixed asap

you should get these.
they're only 3 g's, it's what i want for the stang ...i have a whole other bank account for these lol
