Title: Good old soul music?
Post by: Mygla on October 14, 2007, 09:35:02 PM
Recommend me some good old sould music ya'll!

Lately I've been bumping the hell out of greatest hits-collections from folks like Wilson Picket, The Four Tops, Temptations, Delfonics, Bill Withers, The Chi-Lites, The Drifters, Otis Redding & The Dramatics... But I wanna get down to the actual albums from these artists (and similar artists)...and I know there's some real old school heads on here...

And I know that's alot of different soul, but I'm not deep enough to recognize the sub-genres quite yet. School me!

Most of the artists from that era came up in a time of singles. They weren't making albums for the sake of albums. Not very many had hidden gems on them. Most were just the few singles they had come out with a bunch of filler. Your best bet for artists like that is get greatest hits packages or box sets.

Sam and Dave I don't see mentioned so I'll recommend them. Also Gary U.S. Bonds had some nice records in the early 60s. And a couple of nice come back albums in the early 80s. Here's a taste.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doLsOdp1V_A
