it's fun to see OTHER wide receivers get shine and battle it out against each other. also you want to see where everyone stands.
-
^^good list. imo Owens >> Moss though

there are receivers in the same league as him. He is the best all time, but consider some other factors. Out of the top 3 or 4 receivers, were ANY of them lucky enough to play in a system like Rice did his whole career? Look at Tim Brown, for him to put up the numbers he did with the Raiders is amazing compared to Rice who had 2 hall of fame QB's throwing him the ball most of his career. Brown had to put up these numbers with QB's like Jay Shroeder, Todd Marinavich, Jeff George, etc....etc. The only solid QB he ever had was Rich Gannon who is still no where near the level of Steve Young or Joe Montana. Put Brown or Carter in the old 49's offense and see where there numbers would have ended up.
-
all of that is true, but remember that jerry rice was one of the hardest working receivers though. also he always bounced back from injuy and never really slowed down that much.

Im not saying he isnt the best. I know we cant assume what these other receivers would have done if they were in his place. So all we can do is go off what DID happen. I just hate it when people act like he's Jordan for the NFL. Receivers (probably more then any other position in football) are dependant on the system around them. Look at Moss for example in Oakland....compared to this year in New England, and previous years in Minnesota. The same player, but nowhere NEAR the same numbers. Rice was one of, if not the hardest working receiver ever...so he deserves all the credit he gets. But we always have to consider what great accomplishments some of these other receivers achieved being that they werent as fortunate as Jerry was.

don't worry i almost left him off for the same reason but my friend reiterrated for me that he's already on some all time top 10 lists (and man that's an accomplishment by itself) AND he's been in more than a few systems in his years of play ....it's hard to stay that consistant and put up those kind of numbers with that kind scenerio, plus he's missed some crucial games and he's still been able to put up league leading and historic numbers. i don't care how childish or how many passes dude has dropped, that deserves respect. personally i really like moss a lot better, but i can't deny TO.

I like Moss better too....to watch. He's exciting and athletic and all. But TO is definetely a better route runner then Moss is.
-
he's a better second option as well. TO can block and make other receivers more open .
