Title: Kenny "the Jet" Smith - Preseason rankings
Post by: GangstaBoogy on October 15, 2007, 08:28:11 PM
Western Conference (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Agy5zWK.g2MwtQcIARghFum8vLYF?slug=ks-westrankings100907&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
1. San Antonio Spurs – They really didn't add much to their team. Why? Because the foreign legion team of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan is still the best. (Yes, Duncan is from the Virgin Islands, but they're foreign to me!) Depth, youth and experience makes them the blueprint franchise.

Phoenix 2. Phoenix Suns – I know Amare Stoudemire is out for the preseason, but that's no concern. The Suns are primed this year, and here are two things to watch for: 120 points per game (which means championship dreams) or Stoudemire, Grant Hill and Raja Bell in street clothes (that'd mean a lottery nightmare).

Dallas 3. Dallas Mavericks – Avery Johnson has the challenge of getting rid of the Ghost of Playoff Failures Past. The inability to defend off the dribble and to have a true post-up scorer was exposed for the world to see in the postseason. Personnel changes are in their future.

Utah 4. Utah Jazz – They are for real. Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams aren't Malone and Stockton, but they're more like Malone and the new Jason Kidd. These two should take off where they left off in the playoffs.

Houston 5. Houston Rockets – The Rockets' biggest problem is chemistry. The questions are as follows: Is Steve Francis healthy or is he a head case? Is Rafer Alston streetball or street? And can Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady coexist?

Denver 6. Denver Nuggets – Having Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony for a full season should make Denver the most dangerous team in basketball. If basketball is the only story throughout the year, then look out.

L.A. Lakers 7. Los Angeles Lakers – Kobe will be … well, Kobe. However, this is the year Lamar Odom plays like an All-Star all season and the Lakers take a step closer.

Golden State 8. Golden State Warriors – The bodyguard Baron Davis and the upstart Warriors are great for the playoffs. But without depth in a lot of areas, they're looking like the eighth-best club in the West.

Eastern Conference (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Ahddl2DWZo9fBTIwtDnVvOa8vLYF?slug=ks-eastrankings100807&prov=yhoo&type=lgns)
Boston 1. Boston Celtics – With three unselfish stars in Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett, the learning curve is shorter than most. They will dominate a conference with only three contenders (the others being Detroit and Miami).

Detroit 2. Detroit Pistons – They are one of the few teams that can only beat themselves. That's why they always believe it's a fluke when they lose. Experience wins, and Detroit's veterans can still get the job done.

Miami 3. Miami Heat – Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade tasted the sweet smell of success two years ago and have the tools to get back to the NBA finals. With Alonzo Mourning leaving after this season, an aging Shaq gets one last real chance at another title before he's done.

Cleveland 4. Cleveland Cavaliers – LeBron James and the young Cavs shocked the world last season, but the surprise factor is over. They will have a big task learning to live up to expectations.

Chicago 5. Chicago Bulls – The young and gifted Bulls are in trouble. When Garnett came to the East and didn't land in Chicago, it slowed their progress.

Toronto 6. Toronto Raptors – They're a nice team, and that very well might be their problem in getting over the top. The Raptors might need someone to get a little nasty or trade for a pit bull.

New Jersey 7. New Jersey Nets – They didn't get better, but there's too much talent on the roster not to make the playoffs.

Washington 8. Washington Wizards – With Agent Zero (aka Gilbert Arenas), the Wizards are a playoff team, but with no consistent inside scoring, the Wizards will struggle this season.

Lakers > Rockets, Nuggets, Jazz.

I'll even go as far as to say that we can be stronger than the Suns and Mavs this year...And the Spurs aren't getting any younger. You never know...PeACe

Spurs, Suns, and Mavs are really tough to call. Any of them could win the West. The Nuggets are scary. Rockets still need to prove themselves in the playoffs and Im not sure about the Jazz either. Lakers and Golden State looks about right

You say that every year, yet I'm starting to forget what the 2nd round feels like.

Yup....and year 1- we were a rebound away from upsetting the Suns in the 1st round. Year 2- we defeated all the teams I mentioned when healthy. I don't speak out my ass, shit happens... Lakers are a top team when at full strength...PeACe

The Nuggets are far better then the Lakers. For the last couple of years Ive thought they were a scary team actually. Not a team that will win a championship, but the type of team that could do some damage in the playoffs.

No way Nuggets are better, let alone "far better" than the Lakers.

Fisher was a major contributor with Utah, and now he's with us...with a healthy roster, and the minor adjustments we've made, we're easily better than the Jazz at full strength.

on paper the lakers and the jazz are about even, even with fisher swapping. however utah is built to play in the west. the lakers look more like an eastern conference team . that's why the jazz will succeed more than the lakers..

how the fuck is "The Jet" only gonna rank Chicago at # 5 in the East?!??! They'll be # 1 or # 2 this year!

Boston will still struggle though. I see them being a 4th seed or so. They need time to make all the chemistry come together. Their situation this season almost reminds me of LA's Shaq, Kobe, Malone, Payton team....and they couldn't get the job done.

they would have pulled it off if it wasn't for malones injury IMO.

How so? They had 1 lucky year, IMO...They're a bottom seeded team now.

^ I gotta agree with NIK on that. Last season a lot of flukie shiet happened. Boozer, Camby, AK47, McGrady, and B.Diddy all stayed healthy for most of the season. The West is obviously hella tough, but don't expect to see those guys all stay healthy again.

Jazz - Deron Williams has my respect. He proved that he's forreal and that he can be a true floor general. But I don't expect Boozer to have another miracle season. Plus the drama with AK47 is gonna make for some internal drama. And Fisher is gone.

Houston - Kudos to their management. They finally realized that McGrady isn't gonna stay healthy so they went out and got Francis (who is still a dominant scorer when he wants to be), Mike James, and Luis Scola. So now that team is still capable of winning even when T-Mac and Yao are out.

Denver - I see them finishing better than Houston & Utah. First full season with Melo and A.I., K-Mart is back, and Kleiza and JR are great players to have coming off the bench. But I don't expect Camby to be healthy like last season so they'll get bullied when they play a team like the Spurs.

Golden State - Lol F-L-U-K-E. And I'll be glad when everyone else realizes it.
