yeah i feel like postin up a true story right now.. i'm bored so dont worry about it.....
its about tha dre2001 album.. which is tight as hell...
anyway.....
i always loved westcoast rap.. and well it was weird...because i heard tha chronic (classic)... then i heard aftermath. tight.... but not that good... i had no idea at all that dre was coming out with a new abum at all.... i didnt go to nomessage boards or notihn... so i had no clue.. then i went to target with my dad. im chillin... while hes lookin for a stereo.. and i see "dr. dre 2001" and im like "what??,.. damn dre got a new album out?" i was surprised as fuck.. so i'm like.." i kno dre is always tight... i'm gonna get this" and usually when i seeacd for tha first time.. i dont really buy it.. but i had to in this occasion.. i had no cash and i convinced my dad to buy it for me... so i got home.. went to my cd player.. played it .. and im like "oh shit... this is all tight" .. i havent really heard a tight westcoast album as tight as this in a while and just about every song was tight... i'm just bumpin this shit all over..i got this album in december 99... a little later than when it came out (november).. so after that it was all good...

Good Story Dogg.
I knew that Dre was gonna drop an album, and my anticipation was high, so when I got the chance to hear tha shit befo the album dropped I was a bit nervous.
I downloaded , Still Dre and The Next Episode, but when I played Still Dre for the first time, I was very dissapointed, I couldn't believe how wack I tought it was, damn, then I decided to listen to The next episode and was even more dissapointed cause I had high anticipation to this shit.
I didn't buy the album , my brother did, and I took it with me to my car and started listenin to the shit while drivin around, thats when the shit grew on me, and now almost 2 yrs later The next episode is one of the best tracks I ahve ever heard, this shit is classic.

I remember I was at college and between two of my classes I was listening to power 106 and Dre was on previewing THe Watcher. I thought oh shit this is gonna be dope. I had already heard heard Still D R E, which was the best song I had heard in a while. Then it was two weeks before the album dropped and they previewed Fucking You, The Next Episode, and Forgot About Dre on the radio. I knew that this was gonna be the best fucking album since Doggystyle. So on November 16 at 10:30 I went to Tower Records and bought it. There was no line and no one was even there. When I started listening I was feeling every song like it was a classic until the middle of the album when things dropped slightly.
I usually get tired of albums fairly fast, but I banged this album for more than 6 months straight. One the best albums ever, and even though I don't listen to it much now days, I like lesser songs like Light Speed a whole lot more now then I did before.

Ahh, memories...
Well for me, it was like a fuckin journey. After playin Chronic over about 2,000 times, I needed new Dre. The I heard Em speak on Dre's new Chronic 2000 album back in early '99. I was like, aight, can't wait for this shit. As it turned out, Dre had legal troubles with Suge about the name, and the album got delayed many times, so that ticked me off. Finally, in September '99, I heard "Still DRE" for the first time and was blown away by the song. I couldn't believe my ears.
Around October, I was watchin MTV, and I came up on the premiere for the video of "Still DRE." I was trippin over Dre & Snoop, it was crazy. It turned out Dre had a special on MTV where he, Snoop & Xzibit preformed "Still DRE" in NY, and Dre pulled up in a LO-LO! I was buggin at that, mutherfucker had a 64 in New York. Eventually, November 16th, 1999 (Yes I remember) "Dr. Dre 2001" hit stores and I went to like 2 stores before I could get it, but I did.
As many of us were, I was blown away at the whole album...classic.

Damn, everyone's got their own story.
I was at the mall lookin' for a job for Christmas break, I knew the CD was droppin', but I hadn't heard when yet, so I was just kickin' it, goin' around droppin' resume's and shit off, then I went in to Music Worldto drop one off then, and when I'm in a music store I always have to look around, so I looked at the "New Releases" section to see if anything new dropped that I'd cop, then I saw a CD with a lil' Chronic leaf on it and 2001, I was madd buggin' out. I grabbed the shit off the shelf and I took it to the counter and the guy workin' said, "Damn, good thing you got here now, you're the 5th person to buy it this morning(it was around 10, and the mall opened at 9:30), I hope we've got some copies when I leave this afternoon 'cause I wanna cop it too" So I got it the day it dropped by chance.

...a continuation of my story...
When I played the album, I thought it was dope, but I was just gettin familiar with Dre's "new" style. It grew on me big time, and I don't mind at all that he won't return to his old G-Funk tracks. The whole album fit perfect for me, I was high on hearing Hittman for the first time and I got to hear him 9 times on the cd, lol. He was dope, and Devin surprised me on "Fuck You." Trying to remember, "Fuck You," "Big Egos," "Forgot About Dre" and "The Next Episode" were the songs I LOVED, especially "The Next Episode." When I heard a little of "Forgot About Dre" before the album came out that pumped me up big time, I knew it was single bound.
Keep em comin

time for my tale of joy and wonder...LOL
early 99 top dogg dropped (in the UK at leat) i copped a copy while i was on holiday - i noticed that the dre songs were tight... i hadnt been keeping up with the scene for a few years (apart from the mjor releases like wu/eminem/ghostface etc)
I followed leads from there.. to Xzibits album and i started to hear about 2001...
i found dreday.com and snoopsdogghouse then the dre2001 board
recordings of the power106 preview appeared online instantly.. anticipation rose... everyday something new.. soon mp3 rips of still dre from 'no seeds' as it was expected to be called were passed about..
mid august a promo with forgot about dre /whats the diff (the hittman version!) / make money feat. rbx / and bitch so wrong (which became kim)
Soon RNS ripped the whole thing (i just checked that date 28th oct) the mtv thing happened and i bumped it daily until i could buy it.. then i carried on bumping it ;)
oh i just remembered... i bought the instrumental version and I won a copy online from somewhere but it turned up in dec or something so I ended up with 2 copies.. one is still sealed

shit i remember getting 2001 and the stratz iz a mutha the day it came out. i really didnt understand why they dropped the same day, but i was happy as hell that 2 tight ass cds were available like that. anyway i go to best buy and i look in the new releases section and i didnt see em so i was like oh my god im about to get pissed right now then i asked one of the people that worked there and they were lik oh go to the register. so i go up there and theres a grip of people in line and they had the cds still in boxes. they didnt even get a chance to put em on the helves they were selling so fast. but that was a good day cause i drove away bumpin some new calssic shit

My story:
I had heard about this album for awhile now. I was loving the SSLP, so I knew Dre's production on this album would be twice as good. I went out to the mall and went to two CD stores. Both were sold out of it. I went to a third store in the mall where I got lucky. They only were shipped 15 copies and I got one of the last two. The first thing I do when I get home is pop in this CD. The Watcher blew me away. I listened to the CD the whole way through twice that night. The rest of my night was spent playing my favorite track, The Next Episode all night until 4:00 A.M. I don't know how many times I played it. The whole album was tight. I still bump a few tracks from it at least once a week.

and people doubt this is album is a classic... WAKE UP and smell the chronic (again)!

Yeah, Classic Album. I've Told My Story:
I Had A Friend With A '64 Impala That Was A HUGE Dre Fan, Along With Me, From Way Back. Monday Night at Midnight , The Local Stores Were Opening For An Hour, To Sell It, On The Official Day It Comes Out (In America, Releases Drop On Tuesday). So, We Rolled Down In His Impala (Hydraulics, The Whole Works) And Bought Our Two Copies, LOL. Bumped It As We Drove Around The City Half The Night, Then I Went Back 2 Days Later And Bought Kurupt Too.

Aiyo my story is slightly different
See, it was around 97 when I got Doggystyle - then I followed with the dope ass shiznit Doggfather - 98 I bought Da Game - loved it
But see I had no way of finding out about any of this rap stuff - no internet - no money to buy stuff (I would never buy CDs) - all I knew was that I loved Snoop Doggy Dogg
My friend borrowed me Top Dogg one day - I own it now of course - and I couldn't get into it
That was it fo me - I listened to no more rap for ages
UNTIL
I walked into Ourprice in early 2000 and see a CD with three faces on it - I didn't recognise 2 of them but I sure as hell knew one of them - Snoopy Dogg. In case you haven't guessed this was the Eastsidaz first album. I copped it and was blown away - I was back into rap and plus I was on the internet - a big bonus
So I started catching up - when I first heard the Chronic I was blizzown away
And now
I own over 60 Hip Hop CDs and basically to quote my favourite MC, "When I wake up in the morning, all I see is DPG".
So that's my story for rizzeal
As you can see my Dre 2001 story is v.different!

A month ago my "impala" ( more like a blue Toyota Corolla ) was stolen, and the worse part was that when I found the car the motherfuckers had taken following cds :
The Chronic ( bought way back then )
Doggystyle ( with G'z up hoes down )
2001
thaLastmeal
I can buy 2001 and tha Lastmeal again, but I can't Doggystyle with G'z up hoes down, and I can't buy a Chornic cd with scratches at some songs
atleast I still got tha Doggfather so I can blaze my shit up to Six minutes
-
Yo, I had Doggystyle, Chronic, Dogg Food, and everything else Death Row came out with on time. Then Dre turned kinda shitty, Snoop joined No Gimmick, and Kuruption was kinda wack. Then, Dre and Kurupt came out on the same day, and both sounded like they were gonna be kinda tight. Me and 3 of my buddies skipped school, and drove around testing out the new chronic with some chronic of our own. it was tight
-
I can buy 2001 and tha Lastmeal again, but I can't Doggystyle with G'z up hoes down
If you're careful you can get it from eBay
Just don't give away the fact that its rare, i picked my copy up from eBay for under 10$ including shipping to the UK.
-
i don't really have a story i just bought it the day it came along with korn cuz they both dropped the same day and i liked the dre album hella lot more
-
LOL i was just getting out of my death row fan phaze back in 99. i was still hating on Dre after that Aftermath cd and i was like 'only way im gettin that new cd is if he reeeeeaally impresses me'
well anyway i heard the tracks on top dogg, liked them a lot, then i heard still DRE in summer and it was over. Dre won back my respect. i pre-ordered the album and got it (with kurupts) like 3 days after it was released. it stayed in the player for about 4 months.

...part III...this is kinda funny...
After I bought "2001" I brought it to school my next day so I could listen to it. After takin the CD out a teacher saw that it had a chronic leaf on it and the bitch took it away! I was shocked as hell, and tried to get it back from the office the whole day. I told this one kid who stayed up in the main office all day and he said he'd try to get it. The next day my hopes were runnin out so I said fuck it, and went and bought anothert copy of "2001"lol. I didn't bring that one to school at all. As it turned out the FOLLOWING day the kid retrieved my Dre CD from the office and I ended up wit two copies.
From there I said fuck it and just gave it away...lol.
-
I was the first one to get it 11/16/99 at WhereHouse Music (Cobb Pkwy - ATL)...The store mgr. hadn't gotten the cd's out the box yet !!! And Still today, dre 2001 is in rotation w/ chronic & doggystyle...peace.
-
Hahahahaah
Well this is my story... When 2001 came out, I didnt have a computer or nothing, i never watched TV, i just chilled with my niggaz and shit ... well anyway, one day we are all at my crib and BET is on the TV and I hear this song with Snoop on it, at the time I was just chillin with Snoop music, thats all i listend to. Anyway it was a monday and I hear at the end of the video, which was Still DRE, that the album was dropping the next day... I was like OH SHIT!!!! So the next day I roll to the store and cop it. While I'm waiting in line I notice everyone in front of me has the Cd as well... there were like 5 people in front of me.... in fact they had a whole wall for just 2001 albums ... they also had a deal where if you bought 2001, you could get The Chronic 1/2 off, well I already had that....so i just bought the album... I will never regret that!
-
I saw the mtv special the rise and fall of deathrow in march of 99 during hip hop week then I was just mad hyped for the record to come out. THen it came out and I copped it.

As soon as I heard Still D.R.E. I was sold. That was one of the greatest beats I've ever heard in my life. I bought the album in December of 99 and I had it in my player for over 6 months. It was and still is an amazing album.
