Just throwing it out there for some convo. If Raw Footage is anything like the first song we have heard, where do you place him with the West's best? Snoop is still doing his thing and has been more active dropping albums and doing peace conferences and things like that and Game did his thing last year and is always killing the mixtape circuit. So what are ya thoughts? Still early to say but where would you place Cube with another dope album if RF is that and the success he had with LNCL. Drop ya comments.
-
iight i'm feelin this, good topic homie
personally i think raw footage is gonna be dope
i already think that cube is the king of the west
another dope album just broadens his lead IMO
snoop is def. great, but he's got a few average/wack albums in his discography (that 1st no limit 1 is awful, and there's bout 1-3 more avg.)
seriously, which other artist can u argue has 6 classics? (cube's 1st 4 solos & 1st n.w.a & 1st westside connection)?<<-- that's the difference maker IMO
+1 D

True. The funny thing is, I am not even counting his earlier work. Just his guest appearances, LNCL and whatever Raw Footage has to offer. Musically speaking if and I think it will he can top LNCL, I gotta give him the edge. People can talk that movie shit if they want to, but like Cube said on Dr. Frankenstein, And when I want to butter the toast/can't nobody see Ice Cube on no coast.

I mean just off of most current work. You have to give the edge to Snoop the past couple of years just on the strength of him dropping consistent material. Yeah he got a couple duds here and there but for the most part he has been numero uno. I'm saying just off of recent work. Even with Game 2 albums deep, I consider him up there also.

yea he been really consistent, and he doin his thing for real with his label, active as fuck
yea his material got a few up & downs, but good for the most part (doggystyle = 1 of greatest rap albums eva)
yea game gotta be up there as well
-
Yeah no doubt Cube has a better catalogue than Snoop.
-
I dont know man, Cube is up there though, WAYYY up there lol, no1 can fuck with him really. But does any1 have info on Raw Footage, and whats the 1st song off it?

There is not such thing as King of the west...but without Ice Cube Rap game wouldnt be the same
-
well, let's come back to this thread after Raw Footage & Ego Trippin' drop...
after both 1st singles have leaked it looks like NO competition :D
-
hands down Cube has a consistent catalogue over Snoop... Cube's def. holding it down for the West IMO

well it's obvious that Snoop's was geared towards radio while Cube's isn't... but yeah, i know what you mean
LOL yup
no doubt
that snoop single is beyond trash wow
and i ain't one to get mad when snoop tries new shit usually
damn, that j.t track on his album was dope!!

well, let's come back to this thread after Raw Footage & Ego Trippin' drop... that way we can start @ 2006 since LNCL was Cube's 1st album since 2000... in which case i'd have to say that LNCL is a stellar album considering the 6 year lay off.
LNCL > TBCT
RF ?? Ego Trippin'
I agree, but I am thinking Snoop's new one is going to be R&G pt 2 for some reason. Cube I think is going to raise the bar a little bit and say some things to stir up some controversy on this next one. But most def we will see come 2008.

if you want to break it down in very general terms... Cube is to the West Coast what Nas is to the East... Snoop is to the West what Jay-Z is to the East.
Cube is raw like Nas when it comes to conscious, political gangsta shit... sure they have a few radio-friendly joints, but not to the extent of Snoop & Jay... while Snoop & Jay have a ton more radio-friendly joints that have made them more appealing to the mainstream audiences over the years... and that doesn't include Snoop & Jay's guest appearances on R&B as well as other mainstream rapper's joints over the years... which further shows the distinction between Cube/Snoop & Nas/Jay in terms of star quality.
Man +1 on that homie, that is on point. To take your point even further, although Snoop takes alot of slack for doing radio friendly tracks, Nas and Cube have taken alot of flack for tracks that are like that, but when they do it properly, it has great results. (You Owe Me and We Be Clubbin)

Cube is coming out at the perfect time too... he'll probably pick up where Nas leaves off on "Nigger"... since there is so much to touch on in terms of current events with the whole Michael Richards/Imus/Jena 6/Noose hangings, etc... and i'm all for it too... i hope the recent events lights a fire under Cube's ass and has him reverting back to his AMW, Death Certificate era... and i ain't gonna be mad at him for it either... 8) 8)
Yeah I have been waiting for that from Cube for a minute. We Be Clubbin was kind of a gift and a curse for him. The success of the track opened up a new audience with the strength of having a huge club banger, but since then he has gotten away from the more political tracks. But Cube IMO can do it all. Even his radio friendly singles have a hardcore edge to them.

i agree man... it looks out of context in sort of a "sell out" way for Cube & Nas to be doing radio-friendly joints... not to say that all radio joints are bad... those 2 tracks you listed are nice... but in actuality, i respect the rawness of Cube & Nas... yet i equally respect Snoop & Jay for what they do too... because Snoop & Jay are good at what they do, so kudos to them.
Yeah Cube and Nas are like poets or revolutionaries on the mic. Jay and Snoop are more like pimps, slick talking but got the vocab. Both can get lyrical when they have to. I got the opportunity to see Cube and Nas perform live and I was speechless from all the classic they got and reciting them.
-

Yeah thats a good way of putting it.
-
Daamn, shit's bout to get heavy.
Nas - Nigger
Cube - Raw Footage
Face - MADE
Game - The D.O.C.
And Honorable Mentions:
Snoop Dogg - Ego Trippin' - Sounds like it might be another R&G album
Dr. Dre - Detox - Whenever he decides to drop it
Crooked I - B.O.S.S. - Whenever it drops
Jay Rock - Follow Me Home - Same as Crooked I
Glasses Malone - Beach Cruiser - Same as Crooked I
Bishop Lamont - Same as Crooked I
and many more.
Now if we only could get more and more music from these artists instead of niggas like Soulja Boy, Lil Boosie and them i would be glad. But it's still all good though.

Snoop will forever be the King of the West everybody knows who he is he could drop a shit album and still go platinum 8)

I dont want that, i DO that.

Arguably it could be either Cube or Snoop!
Depending on what you are looking for..Both artists have done a lot regionally and coastal, and still brought it back home-Cali!
I'd go with Snoop,He has an ability to change his flows, which Cube rarely does, but Dude-Cube is still vicious on the Mic!
-
good topic D, right now I'm bumping Cube's War disc and its amazing how underrated this album is, it went plat without alot of fanfare there were alot of releases in '98 so I think it got overlooked but Cube as far as material goes definitely is the King of the West not to take anything away from Snoop who is a legend himself but his albums are more inconsistent too much filler material as opposed to Cube's, the last Snoop album I can say that was pretty dope all the way through was Tha Last Meal which only had maybe 2 or 3 fillers

Yeah the War disc is a personal classic of mine. The beats were all top notch on there.

To the MTV/106 & Park hip hop crowd, Snoop is the King of the West. To hardcore hip hop fans, or hip hop fans who at least know the music, its Cube...and it isnt even close.
-
What the FUCK cube is already the king of the west
-
What the FUCK cube is already the king of the west
I think he is also, but most would say Snoop. I am shocked to see how many people still feel that Cube is still the King. I know most would say he is not putting in the work that Snoop does on albums but now with LNCL and if Raw Footage surpasses that, I just wondered where currently people would put him on their list.
-
I disagree, Cube is mentioned with Rakim, Krs as one of the greatest EVER.........limiting him to just the west isn't fair, he's beyond that.
As legendary as snoop is, he's never going to be in that class of greatest ever.
-
Snoop a is legend now based on one solo album which basically was ghostwrote by DOC, RBX, Rage, Kurupt and who the fuck else knows, give it up for Cube 8)
