The self-proclaimed greatest of all time LL Cool J spoke recently in a video interview on WorldStarHipHop about the quality of his music in recent years, among other topics.
On his body of work: "Have I ever made a garbage album? Yes. But you know what, when you make 13 albums, it's pretty hard not to make a couple....3, 4, 5... pieces of shit! If it's not, who else is doin' it? It's pretty hard not to make some bullshit. If it's 10 records an album, that's 130 records released to the public...it's pretty hard not to make some garbage in there. You can't make any shot."
LL has made it no secret that he hasn't been happy with the promotion at Def Jam - or how Jay-Z has handled his presidential position.
On Jay-Z and Def Jam: "All I want them to do is promote my records. I'm not interested at going at nobody. If I could double Jay-Z's success right now and snap my fingers, why not? I could care less, because you know why? Like my grandmother said, what he eat don't make me shit...one way or another, if he does well, he ain't gonna call me up and give me a steak, and if he doesn't do well, he ain't gonna call me and ask me for a steak."
On his upcoming album and level of effort: "The album is serious; it's called Exit 13. I remember where I came from, and basically what I'm doing is taking it back to my roots. You know, back to the cats in the barbershop for that one guy who's been arguing about me for years...what people don't know is that sometimes when I make albums I just coast, and I'm just being creative and artistic...everything you hear me say on the mic is not always me trying to be the best emcee. People think that everything that comes out of your mouth is your most potent lyrical effort."

I always check for LL but i've been disappointed since the GOAT dropped,
chill

LL is a legend the impact he made at the start of his career was huge but i cant take him seriously as a rapper now a days.
-
thats not very swag like. How many rappers would admit to putting out garbage ?
-
Well, can't deny what he said. Can't wait for the new album though; NY Gangsters, Queens and Scratch My Head are all fire.
-
At least hes telling the truth. Gotta hand him that. Ever since he hooked up with 50 hes been dropping heat tho.
-
I'm always gonna listen to LL's records, even if the last few (especially The Definition) weren't that great, they all have at least 3-4 keepers on them. And LMAO @ the title of this threads.

Somehow a return to his roots with 50 cent involved sounds like another terrible mistake for LL.

Humble ones ;)
PS...read in a Miss Info article he got a oint with Jim Jones, Lil Kim, KRS-One & Method Man.....called The 5 Boroughs......so that ought to tell u what I expect from Exit 13.
-
Had he kept Bobcat around he would have had a few less albums to call "garbage"... especially 14 Shots To The Dome. :)

Have you even heard Queens, NY Gangsters and Scratch Your Head ? I'm not saying it's in the same caliber as Mamma Siad Knock You Out but it's definetly a big step forward compared to his last 3 albums.
-
wow LL's been in the game for a long ass while.. and he never is on ANYBODY's lists of top rappers......
ima give him credit though dudes a living legend
